There should be no question that they can void his contract and recoup bonus money, even if he pleads guilty to a lesser charge or misdemeanor. I would expect that the standard contract has language regarding this.
Will wait and see what happens, with Cockrell here now there is no rush at all, we have a good player there now, if Baker is cleared eventually and gets back on the team, he will need to bust his ass and show a lot to now earn his way on the field, him making it back would only be a bonus at this point.
No doubt the Giants have had their own investigators looking into this. It was telling that they did not allow him back at the facility since being on the exempt list does not prohibit that.
The, it was a bad pick, do us a huge favor and give it a rest. Like the draft is a science, as right as we all are on one pick, is as stupid as we are on another, Cockrell is a really good addition, we now have 2 good outside corners, be happy today, at least we are starting to think football, that alone is pretty good today.
Baker is a sunk ship, he is as good as gone. No reason for the Giants to cut him now and potentially owe him guaranteed money. Once the league/courts sort everything out and the timing is right I'm sure he will be released.
Side note - No one could have known this would've happened, so DG gets a pass there. Of course, losing the picks hurts, but let's not forget that Reese pretty much missed on all of his picks after round 3. So losing the 2nd + 4th + 5th is a big loss, but overall DG has done a really good job in the draft compared to Reese.
My biggest gripe, is that whoever was banging on the table to trade up for him given his work ethic and character concerns should be in hot water. If that's DG then shame on him, given his comments about building a winning culture.
Character/Work Ethic should be factored in the Giants draft grades. Appears that maybe it's not, in which case that is definitely on DG.
Nothing we can do about it now, learn from the mistake and move on.

Help me with the pre draft character issues ... everything I’ve read had him as coming from a tough neighborhood but staying above all of it. Link - ( New Window )
I don't think anybody has any idea what happened here with Baker, but I would not count on him this season, which is a major miss by Gettleman in that draft.
go out of your way to avoid trouble aka potentially troublesome situations.
I can't remember which player said it but seemed reasonable "If I think there is a place that I'll need to bring a gun, then I'm not going there."
Haha, that's what my MA master said to the class, when someone asked him "what is the technique to defend yourself against a gun?"
He said, "I wouldn't be in that place, and neither will any of you if you follow this path of practice."
It was true sure enough as all of us who stuck it out for the 5+ years to earn black belts, also changed a fair number of our life style habits regarding alcohol or rec drugs and late nights out.

Htf is that a “major miss” ? Is he responsible for the kid 24/7? Gimme a break.
The legal process play out. What if he is innocent? Some posts suggest he is as good as gone. Last time I checked, he was charged and not convicted. There is no harm in letting the process play out and see what happens. I have my doubts about what actually happened from everything I have seen and read. I also think the prosecution will have a hard time proving their case, but I am willing to see.
The Giants drafted Baker in the 1st round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He plays bigger than his size (5’11”, 189 pounds) and more athletically than his testing numbers indicate. When on top of his game, Baker is a confident, instinctive, physical coverman who can shut down his opponent. However, the consistency and focus are just not there yet. Baker also needs to make more plays on the football.
Gil Brandt had him ranked 26th overall, although from his write-up it's not too clear why:
This tough, four-year player can play press coverage, though he does not have good hands. After posting a 4.52 40 at the combine, Baker ran better at his pro day, where he covered well but dropped some balls. He will start, but I'm not sure he'll ever be a Pro Bowl player.
Why would he be involved in a robbery? Maybe drunk. A prank that the cops did not think funny?
He's allowed a chance to defend himself.
I don’t remember hearing anything concerning about
him when he was drafted. I remember listening to Movin’ the Chains one afternoon on the way home from work and he was on with Kirwan and Miller and sounded like a good kid. Kirwan was practically gushing over him post interview and was saying some team is going to get an excellent player with Baker. Hindsight is 20/20
Personally I was immediately turned off by his choice of haberdashery at the draft, thinking that maybe it would be good if someone could influence this kid to look (and behave?) a little less like a ghetto kid. Whatever that is in my white suburban middle class narrow mind...
You can look up videos of him at the draft on YouTube.
But as well as he played at Georgia for two straight years prior to his early entry, there had to be a reason he wasn't selected earlier than he was. He was not just good, he was a DOMINANT college CB in the SEC of all conferences. He has a ton of natural ability despite being slightly undersized.
That he lasted into the twenties spoke clearly that some folks in the scouting community knew he was a personality risk of some sort.
It's highly unlikely the "some folks" who knew were among the media or draft pundits, who called him into question on the basis of his poor combine test results, that didn't match his tape of play on the field.
So I doubt what Kirwan thought of his personality meant anything after 20 minutes of phone time.
Someone or several people on UGA's coaching staff knew the kid was problematic, and for all we know the Giants had that info in hand and decided to overlook it?
Or they didn't have that info, and their area scout took the blame for that lack of insight.
But let's not kid ourselves, the kid is done as a Giant. Not just the charges, but the lack of effort to learn the playbook last year and this year (up until the incident) show him unfit for Joe Judge's team.

Hard to believe he will be a Giant long term, given all that could come out, but cutting him now doesn’t really do anything for the Giants.
Oh and he's short and slow.
IMO it was a bad pick before the arrest. It's time to move on.

sincerely yours,

and Antonio Brown
Best case for us is obviously a not guilty even if we intend to trade him. Guilty and it's a sunk cost and we get nada.

Heard that very thing the other day on NFLN
