WTF? I really feel for Mets fans. He starts the year but then opts out now and will become a FA at the end of the year. Holy shit. Link - ( New Window )
obviously c19 wasn't his fault but the likelihood that Stroman would never pitch in a postseason game over his 1.5 years here was well over 50% at the time of the trade. I believe PJ posted yesterday FG had their playoff odds at 10% the day of the trade and by historical reference the Mets seem to enter each normal year with about a 20% chance of making the playoffs.
hard to decide who I more regret them dealing more between SWR and Kelenic. At least there's a chance Diaz gets straightened out and contributes under new ownership.
Disappointing to say the least. Team trades for a local guy who comes in and under performs his history. Then he's hurt and then he bails on the team and his mates and his community.
I'm trying really hard not to judge guys in these medical and health circumstances but ya know what? Fuck him.
Single worst GM any any of the teams I root for have ever had. And I root for the Knicks. A complete disaster in almost every category. His draft strategy was interesting and may pay off one day in the future, but that's about it.
A new owner will want to bring in his own GM, right?
How the hell did the team not re-sign Wheeler? To me, trading for Stroman was an indication that Wheeler was gone and it seemed to me that the team made up its mind early and didn't even try to keep Wheeler. The Wilpons can't be gone soon enough but they better be replaced by a Cohen or someone who will act like this is a NY market.

What does this have to do about Stroman opting out, the Knicks are you serious?

Can you imagine another big market team doing the work to develop Wheeler through growing pains/injuries and then he finally becomes the player you hoped he'd be and then you let him walk to a division rival?
Bad enough seeing it happen with Dan Murphy and now they let Wheeler walk. Awful.
Cespedes opt out when he did because it gave an opportunity for younger players to get playing time. However, this opt out timing by Stroman bothers me.
So, 11 games and < 60 innings of Marcus Stroman for Anthony Kay and SWR?
Jeez.
arcarsenal - good to see your name, bud. I have to admit, not seeing your name had me concerned but it's nice to see you on the Mets talk. Are you coming back to the Mets after the sale?

It was a hyperbolic comparison. Something that should be obvious to anyone with an even somewhat semblance of an intelligence level. Perhaps that's not you Rory.
can't blame Stroman, or can you...who knows...but man this shit is tough to take. Owners always sticking it to the player if and when needed, so naturally the player is going to do the same if and when. Fans lose every time. Not that Stroman is some fan friendly icon or anything, just sucks.
I have long ago convinced myself to ignore the money. Ignore the cap crap, for the most part, but it's hard to sometimes.
because it's clear that Stroman took advantage of the Mets and MLB loopholes. Guy OPTS in, goes on the DL, subsequently generating another tenured year, then opts out.
I would have done the same thing most likely, but it still sucks.
So, 11 games and < 60 innings of Marcus Stroman for Anthony Kay and SWR?

Holy shit Arc! Where have you been buddy? Where have you been?
Hello friend.
Needed a break from this place. I think around the time of the Jets game last November I was just tired of another lost Giants season and all the toxicity here. Tired of arguing and fighting over it.
Also wasn't feeling much of an urge to read the board when there weren't sports at all for pretty much the entire spring and start of summer.
But, I'm alive and well. And sort of "back" here, I guess. 🤷🏻♂️

Hope you're doing well.
All is well, pal - just took a nice long break from BBI.
I hope whoever buys the Mets winds up being good for the franchise and helps them reach the next level. I really don't wish ill-will on the team or the fans at all. But, I wouldn't have done what I did if I was just going to go back to being a Mets fan a few years later. That would honestly be worse, in my opinion.. LOL.
I don't think I ever could have just jumped into the Yankees in the midst of the core-4, championship years. I don't own any Derek Jeter merch or act like I was there from 96-00. But, I felt like the Boone era was the right time if I was ever going to do it with the Yankees not having played in a World Series in over a decade now. It felt less "easy way out" even though I realize that element is there no matter what.
All of these guys either debuted or were acquired in 2018 or later...
DJ LeMahieu
Gleyber Torres
Luke Voit
Giancarlo Stanton
James Paxton
Gerrit Cole
Gio Urshela
Mike Tauchman
Miguel Andujar
Zack Britton
Adam Ottavino
Jonathan Loaisiga
Judge was only in his 2nd full season.
I'm pretty sure deGrom and Conforto are the only Mets still there from when I jumped ship. Guys like Alonso and McNeil are after my time. Ditto Cano, Marisnick, Ramos, Diaz, Porcello, JD Davis, etc. None of those guys were Mets or with the MLB club at that point.
So, things change quick. It's only the 3rd season since, and the Mets roster already has a bunch of guys I don't know much (or anything) about.
I'd like to see the Mets be competitive again. But, if they are, I'm not going to just switch back.
I saw only the first two games: then we lost power due to Isisaih or whoever he was, out for more than three days, so I was spared the crusher, no Internet, no nada.
Did Igor not look good in his (delayed) return? Did anyone look good. The two games I saw, KK was about the best on ice.

A lot of our guys struggled and didn't look great.
But, I definitely felt like Kakko played a more confident game and he looked stronger. He wasn't getting pushed off the puck as easily and he looked more like he belonged out there.
I think he's going to make some big strides next year.
I am definitely sold on Igor - he looks like a franchise goalie to me. If he stays healthy, we should be set.
Feel bad for Hank. Finally getting all of this lottery luck when he's on the way out.

Hey Arc! Good to see ya!
So as a casual Rangers fan (take in five games or so at MSG a year) how good a draft is this to be No. 1? Seems like LaFreniere is a consensus no 1 but not mcdavid or Crosby level hype. Is that about right?

Hey bud! Good to see you, too. Hope all's well.
You're pretty much on target there, re: LaFreniere. I don't think he's McDavid/Crosby/Matthews, but his ceiling isn't far. He's definitely a better prospect than Kakko and will have impact sooner. He should contribute a good bit in year one. Even at his age. He's legit.
I wish he was a pivot, truthfully - because that's what the Rangers *really* need - but beggars can't be choosers here. I've seen some people suggest the Rangers get a little crazy and draft Byfield instead for that reason - but, there's no way I am doing that. Take LaFreniere and don't think twice.

I second this.

And, well, they got some pay back for the quick exit (it was ugly) just now
