Be honest: did you think he was going to make it? I sure as hell didn't. I just kept having flashbacks to our ST meltdowns vs. the Vikes in the '97 WC game, '02 WC game in SF, & Feely in '05 in Seattle. For whatever reason, it seemed like ST always came to bite us in the ass.
It would have been a shame if we lost that game because we clearly outplayed GB in that game.

That's what Coughlin said himself, he didn't know Tynes was already out there if I remember correctly.

You have the ultimate control freak in Coughlin standing frozen (literally and figuratively) on the sideline unready to make a decision and the field goal kicker runs out onto the field so the rest of special teams follows and the offense comes off the field. That's my recollection. Has anyone ever disputed that that is what happened?

It wasn't that he didn't know that Tynes was already out there, but rather it was basically a coin flip to kick versus going for it on 4th down and Tynes running onto the field was the sign that Coughlin needed to go that direction. If Tynes was not so confident after the prior misses then Coughlin would have kept the offense on the field.
you would think he would have already thought about his decision for the situation after 1st or 2nd down.
Unrelated, but it brings to mind Eli telling Bradshaw not to score mid-play at the end of SB 46...when there was no such directive from the sideline.

Coughlin was ready to punt until Tynes ran out there.
Punt or FG - ( New Window )
Probably the best thing he had going for him was that he was due.
It was in our end zone so we saw it go right through and we all started jumping and cheering "We're going to Arizona!"
Still remember all those sad packer fans trudging out to my right.
I didn't think he was going to make it. And off his foot, I thought it was going wide initially before the trajectory corrected itself.
The feeling of the New York Giants' triumph and success is sorely missed. Each run had some of the most incredible moments I've ever witnessed as a fan. It has been such a miserable few years.
2016 felt like someone let us up just to get a little air and then forced us right back under water.
What a miserable stretch this has been.
the Jay Feely game was only two years prior - so I had THAT awful game in my mind as well.
jrud. That's what I was feeling too @ the time.
