I'm still pissed about the Canes-Bruins game so I need the Yanks to win.

Aaron Judge hurt/not hurt - semantics, I guess - but out of the lineup with “lower body tightness” according to Aaron Boone. He means hips, hamstrings, calves. Could be a couple of days #Yankees

I wish Boone would quit lying about this stuff. I know he's trying not to create a stir, but one is created regardless when the guy isn't in the lineup and you have to explain why.
This will be the beginning of the end for Judge this season.

Yeah just come out with it but I'm wondering if it's his call or if it comes from above?

He said he's hoping with the day off today and team off day tomorrow it'll take care of it but when asked if he'll be able to pinch hit tonight Boone said "we'll see". That one I can see being cryptic about as there's no sense letting the Braves know if his bat might be lurking late.

How many guys 6'6 or bigger are ever able to avoid injury over the long haul?

Next time don't have Judge running around on turf. That series in Tampa must have been harder on his lower half than we know.

Hopefully this is precautionary but i'm not holding my breath.

Good thing we have Andujar and Frazier.

The word is he is sometimes less than forthright,
I mean I heard his comments after the game,
said he wanted to get him out, because they played on turf in Tampa.
All you have to say Booney, is he is dealing with some
tightness in his lower body, end of story.

Happ may be a whiff, true. Gardy can still field as well as anyone, so he serves a purpose. His bat will likely come alive. He is a slow starter and right now his bat is not catching up to the FB. I expect it will but you never know. I suspect Cash and Boone will watch it.

Not worried about Andujar or Frazier. Right now Andujar looks as lost as Gary and Gleyber.

NoGainDayne : 8/12/2020 7:32 pm : link
Gardy has definitely been taking ABs away from him. And if Gardy has an edge in the field it's not by much (especially considering Tauchman has the better arm)

I'd agree it's not a whiff if neither Frazier or Andujar look like viable major MLB players this year. But that's less true if Gardy doesn't heat up and keeps Tauchman on the bench.

Would definitely love to see Gardy heat up and not ruling it out by any stretch

Was wondering that too. I have the game on, but the volume is low and I'm finishing up work so I didn't really catch why Boone yanked him.

Hopefully it's just that he's building back up after needing to re-set for a couple weeks after getting hit in the noggin.

So, I think it's a no-brainer and we'd all agree that DJ should 100% be re-signed to a new deal to keep him here.

Question is how many years/AAV gets it done?

DJ is 32 now. A young 32 - he just turned it about a month ago.

3 years with an option?

5 years would make me a little uneasy, knowing we could definitely be looking at a couple of crappy ones at the end.

I feel like 3 with an option year would be the sweet spot.

Something like 16 per? He's on a 12 per deal now, so he's got to get a raise from there. 16-18 per seems about right.

Crazy stuff. Bottom line is that apparently no one has ever won a batting title in both the NL and AL. Would not have guessed that. DJLM has a chance this year although it will come with a big asterisk.

I don't know who I thought might have done it. I guess the truly great hitters weren't typically traded and free agency is relatively recent in the history of the sport.

I doubt he got a proper warm up. Mariano needed about 6-8 pitches to warm up. Most need a lot more. Holder was warming up in the 8th, I did not see Britton. Britton has a lot of innings(and 7 saves). He was getting better as he threw more.

Gary's AB's lately have definitely been better. Finally got one over the fence last night and he's barreled up some balls that went to unfortunate spots and were outs.

He's making better contact. One of those Sanchez HR streaks is probably around the corner.

Not sure what has been snagging Gleyber so badly - he looks a little loose mechanically. I know he's a bit of a free swinger in empty or one strike counts, but his approach in the past has always really tightened up with 2 strikes and he's struggling to do that now the way he has in the past.

He's way too good to struggle for much longer. A breakout should definitely be around the bend for him, too.

I hope Boone doesn't feel obligated to play Gardner if Judge can go on Friday. Frazier really should be in LF. Tauchman should also be playing ahead of Gardner.

It's a short year. We just need to play the best players and the guys who are hitting. Clint deserves PT and so does Tauchman.

yep, Judge or no Judge, neither Frazier nor Tauchman should be sitting in favor of Gardner these days. Late inning defensive replacement if anything, or give Hicks a day off or in the DH slot if you want to manage his wear and tear.

Gardy definitely seems to have lost his bat speed. He simply cannot catch up to a FB anymore and hence his plate discipline is gone. I have never seen him swing at so much trash at the rate with which he is doing now. Tauchman should definitely be the starter. I'll wait on Frazier for a few more games, but wow did he look good last night, even in the field.

there also is no reason he shouldn't be good in the field. He is a great athlete. He's the first person I've ever seen that has gotten the yips in the field though. Knoblauch and the throwing stuff was definitely the weirdest thing I've seen but the way he was playing some of those balls last year was 2nd. But the way through that is reps so I hope his bat keeps playing well so they have patience with him if he makes a mistake. It doesn't seem bad that he is hungry to succeed though and honestly he is the kind of player that I can see being invaluable come playoff time. He has the kind of bat speed that can punish the elite flamethrowers in the league that have proven to be a huge bugaboo for us hoisting another pennant.

He was never great in the OF but I think the concussion/s last year really affected his play. Not just the missed time and lack of practice but he looked a bit gun shy and unsure of himself out there, especially going back on balls.

I'm not sure his head was ever 100% over them last year, both physically and mentally. Can't blame him, but I think it was clear they affected his play.

It wouldn't surprise me at all knowing how bad he wants to play that he put in the work needed in the off season to improve defensively. I'm sure we'll find out since he no doubt earned more playing time last night.

I think you are correct. There is no way in God's green earth that a player of his caliber could play that badly without a serious cause. You could see better OF play by high schoolers than what we saw of him last year. He does not need to be Brett Gardner/Aaron Hicks. Competent will do it. For the short amount of exposure I saw the other night, he just looked better. He attacked the ball, was where he needed to be, made good throws.
I hope to see him on the field more.
