Silver lining to no fans attending, is we should be able to hear a lot more of the communication that goes on play-to-play. Hopefully they don't screw it up by pumping in fake noise.

I think the beat reporters missed opportunities to ask about specific players not named Daniel Jones.'

They did a bit more today but there were too many throw-away questions. Weird when you consider that each reporter only had 1-2 questions.

Yeah I don't think that's weird at all for only having two questions. Seems to me this was the first time with these coaches and they wanted to get a feel for what they thought about their groups, the organization, protocols etc.

If they had longer one on ones or more questions then yeah, I'd expect specific player inquiries from them. For now though it just seemed like a normal feel them out, general info kind of thing.
Weird that they didn’t ask about Peart

The coaches and players All seem to be toeing the line about not discussing specific goals or players. It has to be affecting what they choose to ask.

I agree that's a consideration and some of the assistants have had bland, generic answers. But some have actually said something substantive.

Going back to when I first followed football decades ago, I found the most interesting feedback from the assistant coaches was when they were asked about specific players, especially "non stars".

Colombo revealed a bunch of great stuff today. Henderson did when asked. The reporters should have asked him more about the defensive backs on this roster.

I've noticed this reading all the interviews recently. It seems very obvious that coaches with longer careers and good track records are happy to get behind him as a leader. Time will tell, but there are some encouraging signs we didn't see with Shurmur or McAdoo.

As well as playing the slot position last year which he had never done before. I'm sure that didn't help his confidence at all.

Forgot about the Parcells connection. Good stuff.

Gates is going to get a good shot at Center. Interesting he mentioned size/anchor. DG talked about getting stronger on the interior for the players they deal with in the division. Be great if Gates is the goods and then Lemieux/someone else back up all interior spots.
Lines- my impression as well
Dave on the UWS : 8/14/2020 5:30 pm : link
Gates has the physical makeup that Columbo likes. If he can handle the position, my gut tells me he would be the preferred starter. Plus, I think Garrett will be comfortable with Fleming starting at RT because of his familiarity with the offense.
Balantine has all the tools it seems to competer for for the open CB spot. Henderson seems to like him.
My gut about McKinney is they are going to put a lot on his plate to get him to be the take charge guy back there. They see him having a big role.

A week or so after the draft someone here posted a veteran scout's analysis of about ten plays of McKinney Bowl Division post-season, I think. It was very revealing: the scout praised his go-for-broke mentality and athleticism, but also broke down many failures in technique, angles, squaring up on a RB or receiver after reception--McKinney completely missed the tackle, barely any contact. It was sobering, to be sure.

I really hope so Eric. I have made it no secret that I don't think Pulley is an NFL caliber player. The fact that he was projected to be the starting center concerned me greatly.

If Gates runs away with the center job that might make Pulley expendable if Lemieux and/or Kyle Murphy prove that they are capable backups at center.

Assuming the starting OL features Thomas, Hernandez, Gates, Zeitler, and Fleming the backups will likely be Peart, Lemieux, Murphy, Pulley. It would be great if the Giants add a veteran like Justin Britt to replace Pulley or a young player like Tyler Haycraft impresses and takes his roster spot.
