Giants protected four practice squad players after all. From today's transaction wire, those player are QB Cooper Rush, WR Johnny Holton, OL Chad Slade, CB Ryan Lewis. No team can poach those four players before Monday's game.
I definitely understand QB Cooper Rush.
And maybe I understand OL Chad Slade and CB Ryan Lewis. .
But I'm confused about WR Johnny Holton,
2) They think he could step in faster than any of the 427 rookie WRs on the practice squad.
3) He’s a known quantity around the League, and would likely get a call as soon as somebody loses a gunner.
4) Although he’s nothing special, the COVID protocol extends the timeline for integrating a replacement.

Interesting... thanks Big Blue Blogger!

I understand both Rush and Slade but the other two surprised me.
Of everyone on the PS right now he's the most interesting prospect for a lot of reasons. He plays a position of need, he started for Graham last year, has size/speed (4.37) and he not only spent time with Graham in Miami last year but also with NE's PS in 2017 and the 2018 offseason/preseason (he even won some award there called "patriot of the year" which appears to be based on practice effort).
Would imagine there's at least an Antonio Hamilton ST role to be won by either Lewis or Williams (and it's not inconceivable either one could also rise above Balentine/Yiadom).
Why Ryan Lewis is ready to follow family's NFL footsteps - ( New Window )

EXCELLENT comments and observations Eric. I agree....he may surpass Ballantine in no time.
