Carson Wentz Fumbles

Essex : 9/13/2020 10:57 pm
Is it me or does he fumble a lot? I tried to look it up and put it in context but I could not find anything immediately, but just to the naked eye, he seems to fumble a ton. Not as bad as DJ did last year, of course, but man does it seem like he puts the ball on the ground a lot when I watch them. I could be totally off because I am just doing this based on my watching him over the years (and not every game obviously), but I would be shocked if the numbers didn't back me up.
He does fumble a lot...

But he’s an Eagle so the talking heads don’t talk about it.
He averages about a fumble a game

Im convinced he was hurt today

He was not getting up very well after the second and third sack...

The Eagles have a lot of work to do with that OLine...
Brady averages less than a half that

He took some big hits today. On a couple sacks, he was trying to break the tackle and keep the play alive, and got whacked. He won’t last long if that keeps up

needs a dominate run game/line to succeed. Once the first read is covered he doesn't know what to do. Today, he had the exact same play he got hurt on in the playoffs. The screen is covered so what does the idiot do? Run towards the line and get drilled. Throw the ball away. He is too dumb to do that.

It is a shame he got hurt in 2017. No way Belichick loses to this twit. He could have benched his entire secondary in the game and gotten away with it.
Its going to be interesting to watch a Team

Try to fix an OLine after one game...

Lets hope The Giants dont have the same issue after tomorrow night...
He really has not been good since he was injured in 2017
sb from NYT Forum : 9/13/2020 11:44 pm : link
He's literally a .500 QB since then and hasn't won a playoff game.
they'll get Lane Johnson back eventually...
BillKo : 9/13/2020 11:49 pm : link
....but they have zero depth.

And the other guys they rely on (Peters, Kelcey) are older.

Eagles success has been ability to run effectively and pass block, which has given Pederson a great advantage in play calling and gambling.

It's beginning to backfire, and he along with Wentz's decision were big time contributions to WFT's comeback.

He's broken
montanagiant : 9/14/2020 12:24 am : link
The guy has had injury issues since HS in Bismarck, ND. Had them then, had them in College, and has had them as a pro.

Those 8 sacks today broke him
He leads the

League in fumbles since he came into the league. Something like 50 fumbles in the last 3 years or some shit like that.

Wentz has 51 fumbles in 58 games.

He had 16 fumbles last year which was 2nd only to DJ.

They have him with 48 fumbles for his career, which is the most since 2016, despite only playing in 56 out of 64 games since then (excludes yesterday). Winston is 2nd over that span with 44.
His OL isn’t going to get fixed
BillT : 9/14/2020 7:44 am : link
They’ve already lost two starters for the season and have more injuries from yesterday. Welcome to becoming the Giants. Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of guys.

The LT they drafted in the first round was not getting good reviews before getting hurt. They have not drafted well as of late so I definitely can see them going through some rough years like the Giants. Wentz is in for rough times imo.
Giants can creep ahead
aGiantGuy : 9/14/2020 8:23 am : link
Their O Line situation isn’t that bad, Wentz’s decision making on the other hand... wooh boi
I'm not ready to say he's finished or anything
UConn4523 : 9/14/2020 8:40 am : link
but I always felt signing him to that new deal was something he wouldn't live up to. That said they can basically wipe their hands clean after the 2021 season.
Didn't Peters..
FatMan in Charlotte : 9/14/2020 8:50 am : link
come out of retirement too??

So they have an ancient tackle and a bunch of injured guys. I know they almost always have a lucky rabbit foot, but I'm hoping this year it is covered in shit!

He did and was played poorly yesterday.
Look, he did have that great 2017 seasom

and nobody can take that away from him, but man he has basically been a 500 Qb besides that with a major turnover issue. This is not to say Jones doesn’t deserve some criticism about his fumbling issue, but shouldn’t a 5th year player also get some heat for a problem that doesn’t seem to go away and obviously has affected the bottom line of his team?
I'm getting a little hazy in my old age, but didn't Wentz used to be

When he cane out I thought he was going to be a Pro Bowl QB.
I don't think its fair

To say Wentz was even mediocre last year. He put a pretty below average team - featuring Boston Scott as the star RB- on his back last year in the second half of the season and led them to playoffs.

I think it's more accurate to say Wentz's single largest problem is staying healthy. This is no small problem, but Wentz's physical talent and feel for the game is certainly not lacking.

Eagles ran for like 150 yards/game. They had the best OL in football. Foles winning it all shows how good it was.

Wentz is a good QB. The issue he will have going forward is that the parts around him won't be as strong. The question becomes how well they will be address that. Their drafts have been week.

I agree, he definitely wasn't the problem last year. And i'd be pretty happy if Jones put up 4000/27/7 while cutting down on fumbles.

A mostly .500 QB with turnover issues who is able to find some magic for a few really great seasons but struggles behind a mediocre OL?

We've seen firsthand that sometimes exactly that can be enough for a great career. The key difference though, and montanagiant touched on it, is the injuries. Being a .500 QB with turnover issues and a constant injury risk is significantly different (especially behind a porous OL), because it ends up precluding some of the opportunities for greatness that make up for the downside.

Difference is they no longer have a guy like Nick Foles who can step in and keep the sip afloat if Wentz gets hurt. I said it then and say it now. Eagles traded the wrong QB. Afet the way Foles played in that SB against the Patriots, no way should they have gone back to Wentz, especially being so injury prone
Peters didn't really retire
arniefez : 9/14/2020 11:11 am : link
but he had no contract and no one tried to sign him so when a few Eagles OLs got hurt they took him back to play guard. But then their new LT got hurt so he moved there. Their entire line was brutal yesterday. Not only getting beaten badly in one on ones but missing blitzers too. Wentz got the crap beat out of him.

Boston Scott was the "star" RB?? For all of the 2 starts he made? I guess Miles Sanders was just the waterboy?
Giants cannot play the Eagles soon enough
chick310 : 9/14/2020 11:34 am : link
with their OL in shambles right now.

Wentz was loose with a couple of balls yesterday but he was certainly battling back there. Besides Washington always playing the Eagles decently (better than the Giants for certain), Wentz was a sitting duck in that second half was Peters started wearing down and the backup O-lineman started getting replaced.
In what world is Wentz not an excellent QB? I swear only in if you
Zeke's Alibi : 9/14/2020 11:44 am : link
are wearing blue tinted goggles. Guy was on his way to winning MVP until he got hurt. Sure mediocre QBs do that all the time. His biggest issue is he's a walking injury, always has been, always will be. The craziest part is he hasn't done anything with his playing style to change that. Our best bet is that's what does him in. I can't even imagine this guy would stay healthy if he became a pure pocket passer, he likes to hang in there like Roethlisberger.

It's great, they're already calling for Wentz to be benched and that Pederson won't be the head coach in 2022.
Is there a point to the Boston Scott reply...

I mean, no amount of games were specified in that statement (both of the two games which were Ws for the Eagles)...oy vey, the things some people consume themselves with on this board...
