You can never tell about these things based on one game, but

it seems like the Eagles, the Cowboys, and the
"Football Team?" (what do you call them, anyway?) all seem to have a decent pass rush. I'm wondering how our pass rush will compare.
shouldn't we be more concerned

happy Dallas lost.
Not exactly a surprise.
mittenedman : 9/14/2020 10:42 am : link
They all looked to have outstanding pass rushes on paper, and they do.

The Giants OTOH - on paper - look to have very little chance of getting to the QB. Sure we're hoping Carter is good this year, but in reality, we know what great pass rushers look like and we don't have any. Leonard Williams has a chance to be great - but not much off the edge.

That's where I thought this thread was going.
It is certainly not a strength

but we couldn't fix all our holes in 1 year. I am glad we focused on the OLine, as we already have decent skill players there, SB in his prime, and an improved O could really help out the D. But next year, I expect us to draft heavily for the Front 7, especially pass rushers.

We'll find out tonight. Pit has a lot of talent up front and plays aggressive. I would love to not hear Andrew Thomas's name outside of introducing the line-ups but we'll see.
The Washington team is not good yet
arniefez : 9/14/2020 10:51 am : link
but their DL might be the best in the NFL. Every one of their top 6 guys would be the best pass rusher on the Giants. I know the Eagles OL is banged up and Peters is past his expiration date but Washington destroyed the Eagles OL. Like the OP said it's just one game but the Washington DL looks for real.

The Eagles could be in some trouble with the money sunk into Wentz and that OL. Wentz won't last very long taking that kind of beating. Eli Manning he is not.
I didn’t catch the whole game
Josiah31 : 9/14/2020 10:52 am : link
But I thought Dallas pass rush was weak. They managed to sack Goff once when he held the ball too long. Didn’t see much other then that.

No lineup intros this season.
It could get ugly quicky in Philadelphia
DavidinBMNY : 9/14/2020 10:56 am : link
The pass rush and the OL are extremely banged up. It's probable that the next few games are going to be difficult for them.
Since this thread went ina weird direction than I first thought it

was going I will say the WFT is legit but, also being overblown a bit. The Eagles Oline was banged up and missing a lot of parts. Starting RB out, AJ out and a Wentz just doesn't seem like the guy he was two years ago.

Dallas- is way way over hyped. Their Dline is average and the BS talk about Aldon Smith last night was a joke. He won't make it through a season whether by bad choice or injury. Their LB's are weak with LVE out and Lee already hurt. Their secondary is very beatable.

Philly's defense is not so great on the backend and yesterday they were missing some key players (Barnett) as well.

The NFC East is wide open as nobody is very good.
Rams showed how to negate the pass rush last night...

We need to do the same with Barkley and Engram, will be devastating. I don’t see anyone in their defense that can handle those two.
Any team is gonna have their hands full with the Washington
Ben in Tampa : 9/14/2020 11:06 am : link
pass rush. The Eagles injuries definitely played a part in making them look good, but they have a stacked roster there. It reminds me of the Giants pass rush in the Coughlin glory years.
The most interesting part..
FatMan in Charlotte : 9/14/2020 11:06 am : link
about the Aldon Smith lovefest last night is they were talking about what a great impact he's had in between series where he was badly beaten on the edge for a run, was fooled by misdirection leaving a wide open receiver and was neutralized at the point of attack.

It was like they had talking points and a cool graphic they needed to run even if the play didn't match it

I don't know about that, Jaylen Smith is still a really good linebacker who matches up well with just about anyone, it's more their defensive line against the run that is a liability for Dallas.

don't forget play action negates a pass rush too and our offense should be built for it.
One game even less meaningful

Yes but Collinsworth said he was only the second player he had heard discribed as having HEAVY HANDS! I think he'll be jinxed.
One thing is clear: the Eagles OL is decimated; Dallas OL is hurting;
SGMen : 9/14/2020 12:29 pm : link
and, the Skins front 7 is for real.
That is all based on one game.

I think this is anyone's division to win and the difference between 7-9 and 9-7 could be two plays. Yes, two plays or two injuries or two lucky moments. I don't see any team as "head and toes" above another after one game.
We will lose tonight because we face what I believe is the NFL's best defense. Our OL will get exploited. Our run defense will hold up but our pass defense won't. I'm thinking Pittsburgh by 7+ easy as they control the game.

It will take 4 games for us to get a good handle on the division. Too many moving pieces and too man factors to judge after just one game.
I hate
PaulN : 9/14/2020 12:34 pm : link
Saying it, but we have a major problem possibly if those 2 monsters stay healthy in Washington, they are going to be a real problem, I watched the entire game, they overwhelmed the Eagles offensive line, they were scary good. It's only one game, but the potential is scary.
A co-worker of mine is an Eagles fan
Scyber : 9/14/2020 1:54 pm : link
He has never been a fan of Wentz. Always called him inaccurate and injury prone. This morning my coworker said "I'm ready for Jalen Hurts".
I suppose we need to play a few games...
trueblueinpw : 9/14/2020 1:57 pm : link
But I don’t see where our pass rush is coming from regardless of what the rest of the division does.

I don’t understand how he got back in the league. Well I do know, I just don’t like it. This guy doesn’t deserve a second or third or fourth chance.

He’s brave to the point of being incredibly stubborn. And not very mobile anymore. I don’t know how he made it through the game. No doubt he’s a tough guy but it ain’t gonna last
I don't think our edge players are that bad at all
djm : 9/14/2020 4:50 pm : link
problem is they aren't elite and you need elite edge players to win titles. You can win 10 games with pretty good edge talent but in January, when you need to stop an elite offense, you need elite players like Tuck, Osi and Strahan.

Could Carter and Xman become Tuck and Osi? I need to see that first, but I do think you can win with pretty good.

It's the OL that scares me early on this season, more than anything. I think the D is going to be OK, not great, but OK. The O has talent but if the OL is struggling it won't produce much. Hoping Thomas and Gates hit the ground running. Tall order.

Since we traded Jason Pierre-Paul away we haven’t had anyone who can consistently rush the passer and Gettleman has either been unable or unwilling to find a lasting solution.

Which is what we did during our long drive, until Jones blew it at the end. I thought Garrett did a good job adjusting, chicken salad out of chicken shit considering we had literally zero running game

The Dallas Dline wasn’t at full strength since Gerald McCoy was lost for the year.
