Fractured Collarbone for Vander Esch

BleedBlue : 9/14/2020 10:58 am
On IR, possibly back later in the year ( maybe 6 weeks)
its a huge blow for Dallas

I think i heard they switch him to the Mike too so i'm guessing that switches back to Smith for the time being?

Also an example of how fast windows can close in the NFL - if that D can't make stops they are going to be a very average team despite that OL and offense.
I will say that is much better news

than it appeared to be at first. Them checking his neck was scary. One more neck issue and his career could be over...
Gotta Gell Bad for the Guy

worked his tail off to get back for a bad neck injury, only to suffer another really bad one in he 1st quarter of the 1st game.
I bet..

that was a pleasant feeling when the doctor was contorting his neck in different directions on the bench last night!!
Their oline

is not as stong as it was. Issues at RT. SMith has a back that can act up at any moment. They do have a nice young center from Wisconsin who will be good down the road.
fractured collarbones heal

but I have to think as a LB'er that uses the shoulder to tackle, it could be a bit more complicated when coming back. Dallas' BYE is week 10 so I wonder if he doesn't come back until after that which is 8/9 weeks.
I wonder how long
JonC : 9/14/2020 11:13 am : link
his NFL career will last, injuries from the shoulder level up tend to have a multiplier effect, especially after one serious neck injury.
that's a shame

You can pretty much say that about all injuries, but yeah I agree once you get combination shoulder/neck injuries it seems like a wrap for a football career. Just way too hard to protect yourself.
Looks like they might have lost
Southern Man : 9/14/2020 11:26 am : link
Jarwin for the year too.

Anything spinal cord related is another ballgame I know from experience, it's why I stopped playing.

Future too promising, no way i bring him back this year if I am the Cowboys.
I can't help but start to draw comparisons
Dnew15 : 9/14/2020 11:59 am : link
from Vander Esch to Sean Lee.

Frequently injured quality ILB from the Cowboys.
If I Remember Correctly

A bunch of teams took him off their draft board because of concerns about his neck. I know this is the collarbone, but he is proving to have a difficult time staying on the field. I don't like Dallas, but feel bad for him.
damn
Giantsfan79 : 9/14/2020 12:04 pm : link
Vander Esch is 24. I hate to think what his body is going to be like in 20 more years.
...
BleedBlue : 9/14/2020 1:53 pm : link
yea on the surface, this isnt a bad injury but for a LBer with a history of neck, head injuries, this is just another "how much longer can i do this for" added to his mind.

Sucks to see but its definitely a big loss for dallas
Their backup OT
allstarjim : 9/14/2020 2:26 pm : link
Cam Erving, also sprained an MCL and will be out for a few weeks.

La'el Collins could be back in a few weeks for them, but they are thin on that OL. The undrafted rookie, Terence Steele, I thought battled pretty well but definitely had some growing pains.
dallas might be catching a break with their week 2 game
djm : 9/14/2020 3:59 pm : link
they host atlanta, but maybe ATL has one of those great Matt Ryan games up their sleeve. The dallas D looks very ordinary.
