What a night.

Getting sick of this dude being a major factor. He killed us early.

What's more annoying than him really
Route 9 : 9/14/2020 10:02 pm : link
(Somehow) is people actually believe he's going to make a big impact as a Giant. "When he's healthy" huh? How's that going?
Has become one of
redwhiteandbigblue : 9/14/2020 10:03 pm : link
the worst picks in recent memory. Poor hands, lousy route runner, non-existent as a blocker. Total waste of a draft pick. Injury prone to boot. Time to move on. Should have tried to trade him early last year, now probably a 6th rounder in exchange would be the best to hope for. Very frustrating. Has the physical tools.
I’d cut him tomorrow
BillT : 9/14/2020 10:06 pm : link
Always a compromise wherever he plays.
Thought the OPI
Breeze_94 : 9/14/2020 10:08 pm : link
Was a very questionable call on him. Claypool and Diontae Johnson both got away with much more blatant push offs.

The drop was frustrating. Needs to clean those up. Pitt also one of the better suited teams to cover Tight Ends with Fitzpatrick and Bush.

Bad game, but to call him one of the worst picks in recent memory- after Baker, Flowers, Apple etc- that is laughable.
Not a football player

can be a first round pick. If he was sitting there at the back end of Rd 2, fine. But not at #23.

A right tackle would have been a good pick there.

Of all DG's Reese-pick purges...

He's an above average TE in a league that generally has a lack of talent at the position.

He has value and is a playmaker - something this team lacks. We need to give Jones more weapons, not less. He's a pro-bowl caliber TE when healthy.

He's never healthy.

Except for tonight. And he had 2 catches for 8 yards, dropped several passes that hit him in the hands, was penalized and couldn't block anyone.

Well. When is he going to? He was healthy tonight and he was completely useless. I'm tired of hearing this nonsense he is pro-bowl caliber when he proves time and time again he isn't.

When does he flash his Pro Bowl caliber? When he's hurt? So you can just say he is for the sake of it? When he isn't injured it's the same old nonsense; dropped passes, wrong routes, pathetic blocking. It's his fourth year now. We would not lose a thing without him.

Hell, it's an annual tradition to see Engram miss games.

yes, it's only guaranteed for injury at the time you exercise the option. It's not guaranteed fully until the first day of the new year of the 5th year (so mid-March 2021)

Square peg in a round hole when you ask him to block; especially against a top flight edge rusher. Which for the life of me I can understand why they continue to do so.

I never liked the pick from the day they made it. Had him as a second round pick because he never blocked and was just a big receiver.
He was a very trendy pick at the time until everyone realized those

...but the first drive was awful. Drop, missed block. Then after the muff punt I thought he should have kept moving to his right and caught that ball from DJ.

Then the offensive PI.

I don't think he gives you squat in the run game.

The guy just seems to have a black cloud over him. When does the injury bug start?

Holy shit give me Tom Mullady at this point!!!!

Engram, for a change, was actually healthy tonight,
Dave in Hoboken : 9/15/2020 3:18 am : link
and sucked. I'm tired of waiting for his 'potential' to finally be reached. It just isn't happening. He was healthy and is now on a contract year and he still sucked. Look, I wasn't expecting him to have a great game, especially against a defense like the Steelers', but Jesus, he was terrible. Enough with this guy already. One of the few Reese picks still on the roster, and just isn't anywhere near the player that he was expected to be. If he goes to another team and gets better, then so be it. It just doesn't seem like it's meant to be here for whatever reason.
I said this last year, with Engram,

Been jerking that knee for quite sometime. The excuses for this guy time after time are far more exasperating than these accurate descriptions.

Don't worry, he'll stay healthy, come around and be a stud in 2036. He's a freak talent.

JB_in_DC : 9/15/2020 9:56 am : link
Engram has ever been, was the back-end of 2018 when he was a package player - going for 40-50% of snaps. He can't block, and I worry that he's like a baseball player struggling with the bat bringing that negativity into his receiving. Let the real tight ends play the early downs. Its not ideal, but he can still provide value in a limited role.
Engram can not block, so he is not a TE
PatersonPlank : 9/15/2020 9:56 am : link
Play Smith. If you want Engrams unique talents out there (whatever you think they may be), then play him as the big WR. It seems some think he is a TE just because he's big, but his lack of physicality means he is a WR or H-type guy. The experiment is over.
I am hoping he has a good game soon
LBH15 : 9/15/2020 9:59 am : link
so we can trade him.
WR lol
Route 9 : 9/15/2020 10:04 am : link
Their primary job is to catch the ball...

Not Engrams greatest asset there.

Who would want him? If I'm a general manager for another contending team on enough opioids to consider a trade for this boob, the most I would give up is a 4th round pick. Maybe.
Trade him for whatever they can get.

Great post. He's not going to "come around" as a stud, primary receiver etc. Definitely not a first rounder/target we'd hope he would be.
He should have been traded last year
JohnnyFlowers : 9/15/2020 2:54 pm : link
he is now in his 4th season and has not improved as a blocker at all and still drops too many passes. The current regime has no ties to him so I wouldn't be surprised to see him benched by week 4. he's all finesse and not a real football player
If he can't block or catch the ball then he should be benched
