My reaction on the overreaction

giantsfanforlife : 9/14/2020 11:26 pm
Yes, the offensive line played bad, yes Jone turned it over with 2 interceptions, and no running game. You can also say the defense gave up over 100 yard in rushing as well. I am not defending anything on what happen tonight, but come on, it just week 1. You have to understand there was no preseason games and again you might look good in camp, but it's a lot different when you play another team (whether if it preseason or not). Nick Gate playing a new position and these 5 o-line are playing together for the first time. The defense for the most part created pressure and has 2 sacks; our linebacker especially Martinez played well, and our secondary did okay even though we gave up some catches and TD. You saw a lot of cross formation with the steelers which created some confusion and again, this is the first time the defense is playing together against another team.

I believe with the more games these guys play, the better they will get. I believe by end of September, we will see how this team is.

In a normal season, starters don't play in preseason and usually takes some games to get in the groove; now we didn't have any preseason games so it going to be little tougher than normal years.

This team competed till the end and with this coaching staff, whether if we win 5 to 6 games or more, I believe they will be competitive every week. No question this team needs to play better, but it just 1 week. Be patient and give it some time.
lost

seeing "crap" as "crap" is not "overreaction", it's reality.
The team was ready to play and played hard

First, we faced the best defensive front seven in football. We lost many battles, too many battles, but what did we expect as fans game 1?

The two interceptions cost us any chance to win. I can see Jones being fooled by Watts who dropped into coverage. I thought the play calling on the 19th play of the best drive we've had in years was terrible. Jones should have thrown it away.

I do believe Gates, Thomas, Holmes and Ballantine will improve but by how much? How fast??

I still say we may start 0 - 4 agaisnt veteran system coached teams that BTW are talented too.
Anyone catch Yiadom's coverage on the first Smith-Schuster TD

no wonder Denver fans celebrated trading him for peanuts.

we've been hearing this for years,

"it's only week 1!"

"Rebuilding!"

In previous years I was the one saying these things, but the losing is wearing on everybody. They need to fucking win. Until then there will be a lot of overreactions.

Could we have expected more? No, but fans are losing patience not just with losing, but with bad decision making from top to bottom. The continued inability to put together an OL.

Not really in the mood for silver lining posts.

Fucking win.

Over it.
..and yes

they "competed until the end".

How fucking low is that bar? They are well-paid professionals, they should always compete until the end.

Win.

Not to mention they lost by 10 and it would’ve been 16 if not for a garbage time TD. We were not anywhere close to beating this team. If they’d “fought to the end” and lost on a last second field goal to the Steelers THEN I would say I’m feeling optimistic and feel like this may be a new chapter. What I saw tonight didn’t feel a whole lot different than previous early-season games under Shurmur. Fight hard for 2-3 quarters but ultimately we’re out-matched across the board in talent by any team that’s even close to being a viable playoff team. We rarely got blown out by 30-40 points under Shurmur, I don’t know why the bar is set now to basicallly be “lose by less than 3 scores and we’ve got ourselves a great effort 👍🏻 !”

I liked what Garrett did offensively to mask our awful o-line, and I loved how he actually made 2nd half adjustments. I’ll also say Jones at times really looked like the playmaker at QB we’ve been missing for 5 years. That’s the extent of my optimism. Otherwise I just don’t see us matching up with enough teams talent-wise to even finish .500 this year.
By the way—

Why was everyone calling the Steelers a super bowl contender? They didn’t even make the playoffs last year. Ben is 38, didnt play last year and tore his right arm off clean at the elbow the year before that. I mean unless we just want to list 15 teams as “super bowl contenders”?

(Don’t get me wrong I’ve felt the super bowl hype for the Bucs has been even more insane, I have NOT been onboard with that, nor the annual hype for the cowboys... I think the list of “super bowl contenders” should be limited to maybe 5 teams.)

They barely missed the playoffs with mason Rudolph as their starting QB. They are a top 5 defense in the nfl and offensively they have a lot. 3 very good WRs and a solid offensive line and getting a vet qb like Ben back is huge. They are absolutely a top team in the AFC right behind the ravens and chiefs

wrong. The run blocking was the worst I have seen, true. Pass blocking was more than competent.

Defense did fail late and I thought that was on Graham - he seemed to stop pressuring Ben.

But they were better than last year. Jones absolutely killed them with that INT.

Totally different team. And while you can say crap is crap, we all know not all crap is the same.
If you watched that game

Specifically Daniel Jones and Andrew Thomas, how much crisper and better coached the team looked, a 19 yard drive that prior to the interception was as impressive as anything I ve seen by a Giants offense for many a year, then you really have been defeated by almost a decade of bad football.

For me, Daniel Jones is enough to be excited about the rest of this season.

But everyone is entitled to their own take, I m just glad mine is more positive, must suck to be discouraged after one game, especially in a year where covid has taken so much from us.

It was wonderful last night, sitting with the family, watching the Giants play. Already looking forward to the Bears game.

Scoring aTD in a two score game is not garbage time. Especially when there was enough time left to score again had they recovered the onside kick.

On one of your points, we could take the position that we are blessed to even be able to watch football this year.
the OL didn't play badly last night
djm : 9/15/2020 10:06 am : link
it was good at pass blocking. not so good at run blocking. Barley also missed a few runs that should have gone for 3-4 yards and instead went for 0. The run blocking was bad, yes, but the OL wasn't terrible. They should have scored 23+ last night against a good D.

WTF are some of you watching.
and you don't have to be happy with losing
djm : 9/15/2020 10:07 am : link
or happy they competed.

You also don't go losing your mind after one loss.

Since 2013 the Giants have been a horribly coached
arniefez : 9/15/2020 10:07 am : link
horrible team. Last night they were a well coached horrible team. Baby steps.
