Andrew Thomas

CMicks3110 : 9/14/2020 11:49 pm
I just re-watched every play tonight. He was on Dupree most of the night, and he shut him down for most of the night. Not saying Dupree didn't make plays, but when he did, it was not on Thomas.

Dupree is an incredible athlete, and made plays up and down the line, especially in the run game, chasing down Barkley behind the line.

But when pass rushing, one-on-one against Thomas, I don't think I saw him win once, or put significant pressure.

That was my take. He looks like the goods.
Good to hear

I know Thomas was beat once on a bullrush, but good to hear he had a solid game

positive to come out of the game.
No penalties either for him......

Fleming had a false start.
He played well

Good one
That's great news

lets hope we leave 2020 with at least 3 viable o line starters going forward. Hopefully at worst we have book end tackles with Thomas and Peart.

Thomas, no exaggeration, put in the best game at left tackle the Giants have had in at least 2 full years. The difference between him and Solder was remarkable.
Bad job by NFL Network then...

....they mentioned he struggled, obviously pointing to Dupree's big night of pressure.
Cant recall the last time

I got through a Giants game without screaming about the play of the LT. But...it happened! There were positives to take out of this game, and Thomas play is one for sure.

Yes, but Thomas was playing against a DPOY candidate.
Good to hear indeed....

If we are set at QB, RB, LT and WR (Slayton, Shepard, Tate) as well as TE (Engram, Smith) after a few games, this offense will really click.

Pleasantly surprised. Played much better than I expected.

Bright future for the kid if he builds off tonight’s performance.

Let's not overreact here either. As I said folks are overreacting to Gates, lets not overeact to Thomas.

We played one game.
Thanks for this account

All night I’d tell myself “ok I’ll watch Thomas on the next three plays” and kept getting distracted. Glad to hear this, and Lord knows we’ll need him in so many games this season.

I still want Penei Sewell to add to this young OL. But we’d have to be as bad as last season - or worse. That would absolutely suck.

Played amazing! The times where bud got down the line it was scheme. Every time I I saw him engaged he was locked on. I wish they ran more behind him though
I kept an eye on Thomas tonight as well,
barens : 9/15/2020 12:54 am : link
And I agree, he more than held his own. Besides the running game being awful, I thought he did really well in that part of the game. He gets a really good push.
I didn’t key on him

But I love hearing this.
Thomas held his own

for the most part against a good defensive front. I thought the biggest issue was communication between the linemen and the tight ends didn’t give them any help when they were called on to block.

He didn't struggle at all against Dupree or Watt. And Dupree was more a factor in run plays. In fact, I thought they over hyped Dupree.

I thought Andrews handle speed rushes easily. And while Fleming did struggle a bit, I did not think he was awful. Pass pro was pretty good. Run blocking may have been worse than last year...no, it was worse.
The Giants didn’t try to run behind him
RetroJint : 9/15/2020 7:14 am : link
Have to see if that was a one-game aberration . His pick up is good . He maintains his balance through second moves . I’m not sure that he blocked the right guy a couple of times . The coaching staff can sort through that . But it was a good debut for him . Obviously a very talented player with s nose for the fray . Early on it looked like a couple of other Giant #1s didn’t seem to want to be out there against the Steelers Defense . Not Thomas
Two things to keep in mind
JonC : 9/15/2020 8:55 am : link
He missed a blitz pick up or two, probably what NFLN is referring to, but the whole offense struggled with identifying their man last night. Two, as Retro saw they didn't run behind him a ton, but I did see him moving his man, get a push and wind up in the second level of the defense.

Yes, in the 1st half they were running a blitz he didn't recognize which left Dupree open (he helped out Hernandez instead). Once they cleaned that up at halftime Thomas was fine
Thomas is a stud

And does not have the weight/injury concerns that Becton has. Great pick.

Andrew Thomas impresses in his debut against one of the best defensive lines in the NFL and was the Giants highest graded OL last night.
Thomas
Percy : 9/15/2020 7:13 pm : link
He looked a little slow to me at first, but his pass D turned out pretty well through the game. There was no running O and certainly not through Thomas so we never even got a taste of what that might be about. He did allow a couple of unchecked rushes on the beleaguered Jones, but that's football -- the guy against him is supposed to be no good? Anyway, on this virgin voyage of a new O line, he may have been the best of a horrid bunch. Excuses, just ones, abound -- no practices or pre-games against anyone, and the plague, plus three new faces on the OL: new RT, a new C doing something he had never done before, and new LT. Cut these guys some slack!
It was a solid debut against top competition
Greg from LI : 9/16/2020 9:09 am : link
Hardly perfect, no, but there was a lot to be happy about. He certainly did nothing to make anyone question the pick.
But the other 4

Absolutely the best thing about the game
arniefez : 9/16/2020 3:02 pm : link
was that Thomas held up well and looked the part. That's the best a Giants LT has looked since Lomas Brown. If Thomas is the real deal that is a huge win for the Giants front office. There have been plenty of OTs drafted in the top 5 who were complete busts. Ereck Flowers drafted top 10 played 4 years in NJ and never had a game for the Giants anything like that.
