The Giants are 1-10 in season openers since 2010, being 0-1 is not that big of a deal, but puts pressure on week 2.
These are the recent Giant starts to the season:
2019: 2-6 after starting 0-2
2018: 1-7 after starting 0-2
2017: 1-7 after starting 0-5
2016: 5-3, the lone season opening win
2015: 4-4 after starting 0-2
2014: 3-5 after starting 0-2
2013: 2-6 after starting 0-6
0-1 is a very common occurrence for Giant fans unfortunately. Sadly, 0-2 is just as common. There is a lot of pressure to win the Bears game, this team cannot afford to be 0-2 staring down the Niners, Rams & Cowboys.
I support that this is a young team rebuilding, but even with that it should not mean a 1-7 or 2-6 start. It just kills the enthusiasm for the team when we can’t even make it to Columbus Day.
Here’s to hoping the Giants can finally buck the trend and get to 1-1.
Plus I'm pretty sure there is a ton of pressure on DG to win this year, I think he's out if they have 5 wins or less.
I went into last night s game, thinking they had a chance. Totally agree with your point. I really think this is the year the get some of these unexpected wins.

The NFCE also doesn't appear very imposing at this point. But this can all change in a hurry.
No one is saying contend for a playoff spot in this thread. But, it’s reasonable not to expect to go 1-7 to start the season.
if Chicago holds Robert Quinn out again, it's a lot easier to give Mack and Hicks all the attention they deserve too.
Maybe you missed my original post. The recent history makes this a valid concern.
27 new players, all new coaches....
We could and should beat Chicago.
Lets beat Chicago.

This.
Calling Chicago a MUST win is a bit over the top.
But we fans so we look at the schedule.
Montgomery most likely out another week..
Hopefully the run game gets going

Good golly the projection here is endless. At 0-3 or 0-4 then tell me about 1-7. But after 1 game. Get a grip.

No, I didn't miss it and no recent history doesn't make this a valid concern. Recent history has little if anything to do with this year and this team.

not sure why people think we are going to contend for a playoff spot this year. A whole new coaching staff with new schemes and you can only add so many quality players in one off season.
Why? When you have a bad OLine, bad secondary, and no pass rush...every year will be a bad year. It's not rocket science unless your last name is Gettleman.

I’m really hoping for a win this Sunday. And maybe an upset here and there. But realistically how many wins do you see before we get Washington?
Chicago might be the best chance to win in the first 10 games unless this team shows dramatic improvement:
Upcoming opponents:
Bears
49ers
Rams
Dallas

Montgomery played this week and looked quite good. Nice combo with Cohen but Trubisky looks lost and his receiving is average outside of Robinson (who is totally under utilized
