Right Tackle spot

The thread on Gates at Center is getting contentious. I don't mean to point this thread in that direction. I am not saying they should make a knee-jerk change at RT now.

PEART - I have no idea if the feeling among coaches and by extension, by among Giants nation, that Matt Peart is a a year away, perhaps more, perhaps less. Anyone have any insight as to what coaches thought of him in the brief training camp?

BARTON - While I am at it, what do we know about FA pick up Jackson Barton? At the time he was drafted, I recall his reputation was tall (6'7"), fairly nimble, hard working and tough but needed some time in an NFL weight room. Anybody have any other info?

I think Peart will see time sooner rather than later as a function of him doing better than expected at camp and Fleming not looking so hot last night. I realize on that one play Fleming can't block two people, but getting caught in no man's land and not blocking anyone got Jones walloped.

I'm all for playing Peart, but the OL issues went beyond just Fleming

He seems to be the fall guy here for some reason. There were numerous times where he was left to block 2 guys because the RB/TE didn't recognize what was happening. That isn't his play or fault.

Peart can be any worse than Fleming. Then again we don't see practice everyday.

Peart and Barton sound like the exact same guy. (So it's Fleming by default for the rest of the year?)

I was calling for Peart after that play where Fleming to a magical 'ole' on TWO players, but when I thought about it, he was the ONLY one on the team who recognized BOTH needed to be blocked (well DJ did too after he got hit). Makes you realize that there is stuff they need to work on and its not like he had that happen all night. they seemed to adjust in game and I don't think that is something we saw a lot of the last two years.

I think Peart has surprised everyone

in terms of the pace of his development. I suspect we will see him at the mid-way point of the season.

I agree. It was notable that he was active for the game yesterday. I don’t think this is a red shirt year for him

Was horrible also, a center as bad as Gates played can ruin an offensive game plan, then you have a backup starting at right tackle and a rookie starting at left tackle, all this without any pre season, with a new coaching staff, and with a QB making his 13th start. All this vs a top end defense with great pass rushers. So we need to keep perspective.
