I know Wentz received a lot of flak for lousiness on Sunday (deservedly so) but when watching the game I decided to focus on Dwayne Haskins. I came away thinking that right now he didn't have the mental skills to play the position - not even close. If Wash had even a replacement level QB, I think they would have beat the Eagles by 4-5 TDs (that's how bad Philly was). Haskins was hamstringing the rest of the team, which was playing well.
What I saw from Haskins was an utter inability to read defenses. In the first half, I didn't see a single completed pass that went beyond the first read to an open man. In fact, the first quality NFL pass I saw came late in the 3rd quarter on a nice 19 yard pass to Thomas on the Philly 19 (1:13 third quarter). Rivera was calling a lot of single read plays because those were the only ones Haskins was completing. When he had to go beyond the primary target, he was throwing into coverage and seemed to have no clue about whether the receivers he was targeting were open.
Another boneheaded play was his sliding at the Philly goal line on a key 3rd down in the 4th quarter. Washington converted the succeeding 4th down so it didn't affect the score but Haskins' slide was both gutless and stupid: he got nailed by 3 players AND didn't make the first down.
This was awful. I know he is young but Haskins didn't look even close to being a viable NFL QB. I'll make a prediction: Washington will be considering drafting a QB next spring.
Their defensive line though is monstrous.
Separately how did Lock look last night? I saw his TD, which you could argue was a dumb throw, but didnt see much else.
Same here, he would throw 3 ducks, and then make 3 nice throws

He was okay. He is good getting out of the pocket and making some plays, and of course he has a great arm. His accuracy is suspect and I think he is still developing his ability to read a defense. I think he also struggles somewhat from inside the pocket.
As of now I would say Jones is clearly the best of the 3 with the highest ceiling. He does things the other two cannot or haven't displayed the ability to yet.
If he was asked to not throw to open guys that likely would have produced 2 more TD's, Rivera should have examined the questions a little more closely
As to why he went to his first read, maybe that was the guy who was open.

Then I'll take his lack of aptitude in hitting that open guy.
17-31 throwing 25 of those passes less than 10 yards.
So basically it's expected that he will then have a bounce-back game against us...yeeshhh.
Let me clarify: Haskins was repeatedly throwing to covered receivers. When he was completing passes, it was almost always to first read receivers who were open. I was questioning his ability to read coverages and absorb events on the field.
Saying they won the game is lazy analysis. What I sad was it would have been a full on blow out if a healthy Alex Smith or someone else had been out there.
