4 games back of Rays in the East
Home field probably means less this year than any other, but I still think the Yanks have an advantage at the Stadium, especially against the Twins
Shaping up as likely we play the Twins in round 1, unless something really changes with about 10-13 games left per team. If Yanks let the Jays pass them again for 2nd in the East, we’re most likely playing opening round at Tampa, Chicago, or Oakland as the 7 or 8 seed
They mentioned on the broadcast last night that Stanton would be sitting today. They want to (as you put it) ease him back into the lineup.
Just get everybody healthy and ready for the playoffs.
If you know you are going to be sitting Stanton one of the 2 nights, why would you not sit him last night and play him against Roark today who he has power against historically.
8 for 36 (only .222 average, but still better than Sanchez)
Of the 8 hits, he's got 4 HR, a double and 6 RBI, along with 4 walks
Sanchez is 1-4 off Roark with a single and a walk and no RBIs

I guess they're easing the guys in. But, the lineup will look better with Stanton and Torres.

Thanks. Missed yesterday's game. It was a pleasant surprise this morning. :)

The nitpicking has gotten to ludicrous levels. Stanton was just activated yesterday, why would they rest him before he played a game? The idea is to get them in a game and then the next day off to monitor how their injuries handled the workload. They also knew Judge would be back today and in the lineup. And just so you know, they’ve already said they will do the same thing with Judge. He will not be in the lineup tomorrow. Can’t wait to read the comments when he’s not in the lineup tomorrow...

but here is my problem with Boone.

Nitpicking? If you are going to play analytics, then play them, or play both days. They didn't have enough time during today to monitor to see if he wasn't injured?

It was preordained as stated. Stanton is sitting today, then will play two, then sit. Judge is on the same schedule. It is all about having people healthy for a grueling playoff schedule. Torres can play, but they are giving that quad a little extra time. He can pinch hit and go in late if needed. But when they score 20 more tonight, he will not be needed.
I’m scared to death of his free agency, especially with the Yankees taking a revenue hit this year. Hope they don’t get too cute.
Definitely. 23 pitches in one inning isn't a sustainable pace especially giving up those hard hit balls.
Hicks and Boot both almost got one.
3-0, Yanks.
I'd love to smash their bullpen again tonight.

I'd love to see Espinal again tonight but these things have a way of evening out.
Wow, the Yankees are scorching.
GONE
up to .372 with 9 homers. Sneaking into the MVP conversation if he finishes strong.
6-0
DJLM with his second - a two runner/ 6-0
Yep, 3 yrs $45ish maybe 4/$55ish
First at bat, second strike phony (low). Had to know that was how it was going to go.

other than Cole. If he isn’t signed it will be a giant kick in the nuts.

Tack on an option year and let's do it.
Also, Cole is... pitching really well. I'll leave it at that. :)

Less than 16 per? I'd be surprised if he was that cheap.
Cole loses focus on occasion...

He needs to finish as strong as he starts. It's a weird issue he has.

He's 32...and yes it could go more, but too much and they may not re-sign.
OK DJLM worth a lot of coin...
Lol was in the car for the firt HR gotta give Sterling credit on that one its a good one.
This is awesome.

His Higgy call has to be a top fiver for me.
That may have been the worst I ever saw. Direct to the mask.
Higgy, to me, has to play more over Sanchez right now.
Also I just noticed that they really overlooked in the MVP Voit conversation what the WAR actually was, he's 21 in the AL in WAR right now. I'm just not sure that is high enough for the MVP as much as I am a huge fan of his.
Fangraphs WAR - ( New Window )

Really shows how flawed WAR can be. Some of the names above him is absolutely joke.
+3.5
What do you think a guy like Kiermaier is worth then? He gets like a 2-3 dwar. And Hit a Tina sub 100 OPS+... I think Hicks is worth a lot more.
Jints has his Mojo back. Nice work. Manana
I mean....I'm not giving up on him entirely, but we're nearly done with the season. If he doesn't start hitting in the next ten days, I think you have to give Higashioka first crack at the playoffs.
They are bashing at the moment, keep the train rolling.
Cole looks like he is back on the beam!
A sweep would be nice, they have to go to Buffalo next week for four games.
A little cushion would be nice at this time.
Good Lord, they still use him as a DH at times.

He will not get better on the bench. Of course they are playing him now. Just looking for something to jump start him. I thought he was a bit better last night, going to right. Seemed to recognize pitches a little better....or maybe it was wishful thinking on my part.
He's got that look.

If he doesn’t pick it up offensively, I don’t think they start him game 1 with Cole on the mound.
No way they risk Cole being less comfortable on the bump unless there’s a significant chance of it paying off with a solid offensive game from Gary.
I know he won't be a DH when people are healthy,
that's not what I was talking about....Based on his performance, no way he should have been a DH this season.
It's just as I have said previously, they have coddled this guy for far too long now.
Quote:
That’s if everyone else is healthy. Judge in RF, Frazier in LF and Stanton at DH leaves no room for Gary if he’s not catching.

I got what you were saying and I was just trying to clarify my post disagreeing with you saying they won’t sit Gary.
In my initial reply I was saying why they would sit him as a catcher with Cole on the mound and realized I forgot to finish my point about how and why he’d also sit that game as DH.
Basically, regardless of how they’ve coddled him in the past, if he doesn’t come out of this offensive funk, he’s riding the pine in game 1 imo.

Agree Eman11. But they will continue to play him to try and get him out of his funk, up until the playoffs. Boone admitted that Higgy is catching Cole
Gary hitting would be a huge boost to the club and no doubt the team and all of us would love to see it. Problem for me is I’m not seeing many positive signs he’ll get going, and I don’t think he will. Fingers crossed I’m 100% wrong on that.
