Usually some vet signings after week 1. Were there any?

Did teams just sign vet players to the practice squad so they can elevate them later?
It's a great question.

iMO, the NFL's personnel rules have been lame, and are holdovers from a time before 16-game seasons, Thursday games after Sunday games, etc. The IR rules have been particularly unsuited to the length of today's NFL seasons. You can have a 12-week injury and still be ready to go for December-January and the playoffs.

I understand the reason for the signings after Week 1, but that's been lame, too. Way too much of the way rosters shape up is dictated by complex red tape and week-to-week money considerations.

Some of the rules put in for this season are much saner, including expanded practice squads with veterans and the ability to reactivate more guys from IR sooner. They should keep some of these changes. I know the owners want to keep costs down but in the great scheme of the NFL, the bottom 10 guys on an expanded roster aren't that expensive.
