NFT: Mets' David Peterson

spike : 9/19/2020 9:30 pm
Peterson has earned his stripe this season. He looks to be good enough to be no 3 or no 4 starter on this team. Tonight against the Braves, he gave up 3 hits, 1 ER, and 10 K's in 6 innings.

Matz, however, might have pitched his way out of Flushing this season.

Next season:
Degrom/Bauer/Peterson/Wacha?/Porcello?
Syndergaard
pjcas18 : 9/19/2020 9:36 pm : link

at least at some point.

otherwise even with Bauer that rotation is thin
Anyone watching on Fox?
Gmanfandan : 9/19/2020 9:42 pm : link
They have computer generated fans in the stands they show from time to time and it’s just creepy.

Peterson definitely deserves serious #3 next spring

did they have Chipper Jones there?
Any rotation with both Wacha and Porchello in it is a bad rotation.
PhiPsi125 : 9/19/2020 9:46 pm : link
Hope that isn’t the case next season. The Mets need to STOP being the home for cheap reclamation projects.

Matz needs to go away. He’s just a bad pitcher at this point. It’s too bad because he has the stuff, just not the mentality.

Yes and they showed it - but he and Shea aren’t moving

I'm not watching but I saw a couple people tweet about it and wasn't sure what they were talking about.

sounds weird.
Wacha and Porcello have no business
larryflower37 : 9/19/2020 10:02 pm : link
In any rotation.
Mets need to be active in the off season since they have traded away most of the young arms.
I don't know how you project 2021 with no MiLB season.
81_Great_Dane : 9/19/2020 10:05 pm : link
Hardly anyone thought Gimenez would be with the big club until next year. Is there anyone from last year's high-A or AA teams who could jump to the majors. Probably not — but we have no way to know.

I hope we see something better from Kilome next year.

Kevin Smith might be someone to keep an eye on.

Oh, wait, the Mets minor league pitcher of the year was traded for a shitty middle reliever.
I didn’t care Familia
SJGiant : 9/19/2020 10:09 pm : link
Gave up a homer. He didn’t walk anyone, hit anyone, or give up a string of hits. Thankfully no quick pitches tonight.

Can’t be happier for a better guy than Dom. All those years being called fat, lazy and not enough power. Love him!!!

agree, such an easy guy to root for and his defense is much better than advertised.

He's definitely not a "singles" hitter. his OPS is over 1.

Gotta hope for the DH next year. Alsonso has played himself to the bench without it
Do we think that the DH is going to remain in the NL?
PhiPsi125 : 9/19/2020 10:28 pm : link
The Mets sure could use it. I was always opposed to the DH in the NL but I think I’m ready for it.

They should, which means Manfred will probably find a way to screw it up.

Me too. And I would be shocked if they dont keep it. Now extra innings....
DH Will Stay
Samiam : 9/19/2020 10:51 pm : link
I think the cats out of the bag and the NL will keep the DH going forward.

By the way, with Cohen in the picture, from everything I’ve read about him, he’s going to be way more focused on free agent signings than the farm system. I don’t see him wanting to wait for young talent to develop, at least not in the beginning of his ownership. He’s going to want the franchise to become more valuable quickly and that means winning quickly. The days of signing on the cheap is over. I just hope there are no problems getting his approved. These are still the Mets.

Yeah gotta lock Noah up. Can't have another Wheeler situation.

A Steven Matz for Mike Foltynewicz trade makes a lot sense. Two talented but mentally weak pitchers who could use a change of scenery.
forgot about Lugo

Next season:
Degrom/Bauer/Peterson/Lugo/5th starter (placeholder for Syndergaard's return)

Matz or Wacha or whoever that gets skipped whenever there is an off day. No need to break the bank for a Stroman.
Why didnt they use

Thomas Szapucki this season?
Lugo should go back to pen next year keeping him healthy and effective
Eric on Li : 9/20/2020 10:02 am : link
more important than getting max innings out of him as a starter.

just sign some starters behind JDG/Thor/Peterson. Tender Stroman and add someone with upside like Taijuan Walker. Maybe trade JDD or Rosario for a young SP with years of control and upside as well. Extend Syndergaard if you can too.

BVW emptied out the farm of SP so they need to add young talent desperately to be ready in a few years when JDG inevitably comes back to earth even a little bit.

Agree with this approach. Bauer would be great, but I wouldn’t bank on getting the top available starter.

Peterson has been a revelation. I expected Dom to be good (although not this good), but Peterson has been a revelation. JDG, Stroman, Peterson, a guy like Walker, and Thor/placeholder until he comes back would suffice. They could have Matz do it is he can get back to even last year, Puck, or Ramirez has looked good.

I would go try and get Bauer though. Would cost less than the bad money they have coming off the books. JDG, Bauer, Thor, Peterson, and Stroman/Walker would be fantastic
Stroman will be a FA

along with Wacha and Porcello.
Matz is on Arb-3
Sign Bauer and even though I'm not really a Stroman fab, I'd try and

re-sign him for the right price short term. This rotation is desperate/ Never should have let Wheeler get away---and to the fucking Phils no less.

God, I hate the Wilponzis.
Did we ever get a reason why Lugo got pounded his last time out?
PhiPsi125 : 9/20/2020 12:41 pm : link
So uncharacteristic of him and I was waiting to get the injury excuse but we got nothing. I suppose he just had a bad day but it was ugly. Almost like he was tipping his pitches.
I've

actually been underwhelmed by Peterson until this last start. Even with that start his FIP is 4.78, 4.85 BB/9. Going into next year with him as the 4 or 5 is fine but I'm not ready to pencil him in for anything more. Matz flat stinks.

To complete the Castro trade-
DanMetroMan : 9/20/2020 1:34 pm : link
Gonzalez, hailing from the Dominican Republic, signed for a $250K bonus as a member of the Mets’ 2019-20 international signing class. With the 2020 minor league season canceled, Gonzalez has yet to officially begin his pro career, and he wasn’t part of the group working out at the Mets’ alternate training site. Baseball America’s Ben Badler described Gonzalez as having “a good chance to stay at shortstop” since he has “a quick first step, covers ground well and has a strong arm for the position.”

The Mets have a surplus of young infielders, he's the logical one to trade. Rosario and Gimenez in Queens; Mauricio, Newton, Vientos and Baty in the low minors. And, honestly, I think Guillorme could start for a lot of teams. He's been kind of a sleeper.
I warned
