are surprised we've gotten this far...I gotta say if they can somewhat sustain this, we all have to give huge kudos to the players, league, and team staffs.

Its week 2 of football!! F you COVID.

I am not, have said the entire time NFL would play
Pleasantly surprised

Indeed, keep it up.
I am shocked

Both the league and the players deserve a ton of credit getting to this point.
I mean compare this to the shit show that was MLB.

I wonder how long they can keep this up. Once it’s clear certain teams are not going to compete and the bye weeks come, it’s going to be tempting for players to let their guard down.
Incubation period is about 2 weeks or more.
Big Blue '56 : 9/20/2020 10:39 am : link
The real battles began last week with the sweating and heavy breathing and spitting, etc.m etc....We’ll know in another week or two the ramifications from week one, imv
I didn't think there was a chance until I saw Hard Knocks

I was extremely impressed with the NFL's protocol. With how they test, at most there's going to be some very isolated breakouts unless we get super unlucky and the ones that squeeze through testing happens on gameday, then you could see a mass infection of two teams. I know flu generally runs rampant in locker rooms once it hits, but with all the caution and cleaning I don't think thats a valuable data point.

I’m not either. It’s all about $$.

Great news - I really didn't expect this. I thought we'd get some positives, especially after some of the college outbreaks.

Hope they can keep this up. Especially if there's a dreaded "second wave" that overlaps with flu season.

Isn’t that the reason for the test? To see if they have it? It may not show in symptoms. Some are asymptotic or have minor symptoms, regardless, you’d know if you had it if tests are accurate.

We shall see. I’m still highly skeptical about the season in its entirety. Lots of unknowns still. Regardless, however this ULTIMATELY plays out, I’m enjoying this immensely to date and am excited about today.
webmd
fkap : 9/20/2020 11:33 am : link
says avg exposure to symptom time is about 5 days, which jives with what my amateur self has heard in the past.

no positives looks promising.
Does anyone really think they will make it public??
EricJ : 9/20/2020 11:36 am : link
The last thing they want is hysteria and opposing teams backing out of an upcoming game.
this also tells my amateur self
fkap : 9/20/2020 11:38 am : link
that this thing can be controlled by being smart. that's the easy part. the hard part is getting people to behave smart. In a rigid environment, which should be what the football world is, smart should be enforced, making a season doable. should be, and is, are often different things, though.

If the NFL wants to make it through a season, that means they have to pull players who test positive and follow league protocol for quarantine of exposed players. That would be hard to keep secret.

Fauci and other respected experts in the infectious disease realm have stated numerous times around two weeks and I read WebMD..So we’ll have to agree to disagree on this.
so far, very good

fingers still crossed
you're the MD
fkap : 9/20/2020 12:16 pm : link
so who am I to argue....
but isn't the two week timeframe a standard covid quarantine recommendation? that if symptoms don't show up by then, they aren't likely to? Meaning most people have symptoms before that, likely well before that to allow a cushion?

...
christian : 9/20/2020 12:23 pm : link
It’s an incredible accomplishment. What it shows is it can be done. Hats off to the players and the staff. You can have all the protocols nailed, but it takes each individual choosing to do the right thing.

We both could be right. “ Typically, a person develops symptoms 5 days after being infected, but symptoms can appear as early as 2 days after infection or as late as 14 days after infection, and the time range can vary.”
The teams
Lines of Scrimmage : 9/20/2020 12:55 pm : link
really made a great effort to protect everybody and the players are doing their part. I worry most for the staff and coaches. I think the bye weeks will present some challenges. Smart move expanding the practice squads.

This is my understanding also. This is why the quarantine is 14 days - to make certain you are clean.
