I'd like to see us veer away from the run if it doesn't work

Zeke's Alibi : 9/20/2020 11:47 am
early. Actually I'd like to see us open up 5 wide and then try to establish the run drives 2 and 3. Then play it from there. Just think we are going to see more of the same in the run game, unfortunately. Saquon is always capable of busting one so if he does and is feeling it feed the beast. I thought we abandoned it at the right juncture last week, but like to see us ditch it earlier this week with all our weapons and the Bears are very vulnerable there. We should kill in the short intermediate passing game. Love that Garrett is here now and we want to establish the run game early, and we should at least try, but let's open it up if we get the same results as last week. Just so happy we don't have Shumur here anymore with his mind boggingly stupid gameflow decisions.
Don’t know what will occur,

but Garrett has shown a willingness to adjust, even on the fly, unlike some of our predecessors.
They need to
fireitup77 : 9/20/2020 11:58 am : link
run left behind AT and Will H. They only ran twice to the left last week.
Agree they need to run to the left

That's what I want to see.
Whatever works

Really hoping not to start 0-2 (again)
agree

that 3 TE look is inviting 9 D in the box. need to pass to set up run
i'd like to see Saquon go for 200+

don't forget Goldman is out for Chicago and it looked like they missed him last week giving up 140 yards to the Lions last week. Our old friend John Jenkins played 23 snaps for them last week.

Obviously if it isn't working you have to adjust but against Pitt they had success throwing out of heavy sets to the TE's as well as Slaytons long TD last week so I'd like to see them commit to the run game early and run some simple power sets working both play action and hat on hat power runs.
Not sure the bears

will be as aggressive in loading the box, as the middle of their defense cant cover imo....I think they rush the passer very well, but this isnt the Steelers.

I attack Trevethan and Skrine in the middle of the passing game....and run early right at the edge rushers who prefer to tee off on the pass.
Saquon out @ receiver

Is there some reason they can't put Saquon out @ receiver in various positions and also put another back (whoever blocks best) in the normal back position? If they stack the box, toss it outside to Saquon and get some receivers/TE's (besides EE) to block out there. If they don't, run the back that's in the normal spot? Could help spread them out some at least.

Agreed - I watched a chunk of their game last week and Trevathan looked very Ogletree'y.
Can’t go away from the run completely

bc you need to maintain the threat and set up play action.

But if the Bears sell out to stop the run by stacking the box with 8-9 early like the Steelers did, we by all means need to make them pay over the top

They did this often last week
Motion
BigBlueShock : 9/20/2020 12:41 pm : link
The Athletic had an article this week that was pretty interesting. Last week at least there was definitely a correlation between putting guys in motion on offense and winning games. The Giants had the least amount of plays where they put guys in motion in the entire NFL last week. Something like the 6 or 7 highest motion teams all won their games while the fewest motion teams lost theirs. Small sample I know, but I’d like to see the Giants use this a bit more this week, all it does is creates confusion and mismatches for the defense
Chicago secondary will start jumping routes

if DJ moves to quick short throws. The DL will also get their hands up more often to tip his passes.

Its okay to throw on first down but need some reasonable balance otherwise its a game like last week.

Giants have to move folks off the LOS and develop some space for running game. If they can't then you know the answer.
