#Bears Mitch Trubisky and Allen Robinson targeted #Giants Corey Ballentine again and again and again in the second half of last year's matchup. Ballentine was playing mostly in the slot and out of position then. Matchup to watch today.
I was much more concerned about HOW the Giants played football rather than wins & losses.
But, today, that goes out the window.
This current Giants team hasn’t learned yet how to play winning football for 60 minutes.
No better time than now against da Bears to figure it out.
At least for one game.
Turnovers are the killer, especially in second half. Keep the turnovers on offense down, and Defense needs to learn how to step up and close out games. A pass rush would help.
Mack and Quinn playing, our chances of winning decrease substantially. We need to somehow block them and open running lanes for Barkley. Especially with Tate back, we should throw to try and set up the run. The first priority for every opponent is to shut down Barkley and make Jones beat them.
looked lost. Right down the field. Trubisky had all day. No pressure again. The lack of an edge rusher is really glaring. Combined with our depleted and confused secondary, and it's difficult for our defense to get off the field.
How exactly did Barkley dance? You are making up your own facts. He took the handoff and there were 2 guys waiting. Should he just fall down, put his head down and run into their stomach?
agree we need to move Jones, but last week he was under more pressure than any other QB. He can't rollout on every play. He's having the ball slapped away by defenders who would knock it away from almost any QB in those situations. The bad OL is compounded by the fact that aside from Slayton it takes our WRs time to separate.

He should just hit the designated hole
He has 9 fewer turnovers than Jameis fucking Winston.

He should just hit the designated hole
What hole? He never got to a hole. How can you hit a hole when you are getting hit bin the backfield
He just ran for 5 straight up the middle with no hesitation dragging players.
He doesn’t have the personality to play in NY. Maybe Jones isn’t the answer but Lawrence isn’t either. Clearly this team isn’t yet at a point where they can win games. The “ they can make the playoffs “ crowd was WAY overly optimistic. The OL still has a ways to go and the defense is a major work in progress. The issues start there m.

Exactly..he didn't dance..there were players in the backfield then too.
i know it's futile, but he has to try to run through some of those tackles.
the problem there is the play calling.. they need to get barkley in space. he isn't going to break runs when he's met in the backfield.
The issue is when you get hit right after taking the hand off you have no momentum, you've barely taken a step. You can't run through someone from a standing still position. Give him 2 steps then sure, like on the 5 yard run. But that first play he was basically still standing when they were there
But he aint fixing this defense, this offensive line, or barkley being soft as sharmin .
This team that Gettleman put together is a joke and Mara is a bigger clown for still keeping him around
Lawrence would definitely help the OL. And he could keep the D off the field for a breather. He's light years better than what we're seeing from DJ8.
I agree but until they bring in a competent GM and stop using people they are comfortable with in the "giants way " this team is never going anywhere . It all starts with MARA
Giants must get a scoring drive going. Being down 10-0 early on the road is tough, indeed, but if Jones can "dink n dunk" 'em to a score here this game isn't out of reach.
Jones fumble was heart-breaking but our run defense is just as heart-breaking so far.
This is the DRIVE we either settle down and show the Bears we are here to play or we run, run, missed 3rd, punt...
Giants must get their butt in gear here and show us why Judge believes....
talks a big game but he forgot that results on the field is what matters.
We’ve seen this act before. It’s very early, but BBI celebrating press conferences of coaches is the definition of insanity. Every new coach, we celebrate the press conference before a single game is played. As most of us have said, we have no idea what judge is.

It's honestly some benny hill stuff how we latch onto coach speak and press conferences.
Even is Barkley’s run he doubled on the center when Gates has the guy under control. If he goes to the second level it could have been a really big gain. He looks slow with heavy legs to me.
We are definitely starting over here and it’s going to be another tough season unfortunately. All we can hope for is development and some progress as a team!
Smart teams don’t draft RBs that high because generally their careers are short. It was not a great pick. Saquon has already missed time and this doesn’t look good.
He has played poorly so far but you have to factor in how bad this OL is, the lack of running game, and receivers who get no separation . He really has nothing to work with
We possibly could get the first pick. Can’t believe I’m thinking of the draft now.
Don't sleep on Carolina. they're pretty sucky and have lots of reasons to suck for Lawrence
Giants might be the worst team in the NFL. Not a lot of favorable games on the schedule. But Jones will probably pull a Gene Smith and win some meaningless late games
Barkley's face says it all, his knee buckled, hoping it ain't an ACL
He has played poorly so far but you have to factor in how bad this OL is, the lack of running game, and receivers who get no separation . He really has nothing to work with
in large part because their bodies break down due to injury. You absolutely have to factor that in when evaluating them as a high pick
Perhaps we could have grabbed Chubb the Denver LBer instead, but there’s no way to know how he’d turn out either. Barkley was a generational talent and was definitely worth the risk at #2 IMO.
Looked like a non-contact injury, happened BEFORE the tackle.
I hate to bring it up but I will just this once: taking a RB at #2 is always risky business.
not just risky, but the difference between what you get with the #2 overall pick and what you can get in the 4th round isn't that much compared to what you can do to help the OL or DL with that high a pick. and it's showing on the field.
To all those that constantly defended and stood by Dave Gettleman including our very own incompetent organisation, this is what use get. Many like myself knew this man would cause further harm to this franchise but unfortunately these warnings were not adhered to and this is the result of that. It truly hurts to see this great franchise in the state it is.
I know its a hot take. But Reese for being as horrible as he was...was NEVER as bad as Dave Gettleman
Did Gettleman have as bad as pick as Marvin Austin? He was a 2nd round pick. Not to mention the Ramses Barden or Jayron Hosley.
The Barkley pick has done more damage to this franchise than any of those picks...sorry. Barkley is great but you waste a #2 overall on a running back behind an awful front line and now he has been hurt last year and seems like he will miss all of next year and possibly more if the injury is series enough.
rumor was that the Browns offered both their second round picks to trade from #4 to #2 to take Barkley. Let's see what the injury is before deciding that Barkley's season is over.
Looked like a non-contact injury, happened BEFORE the tackle.
I hate to bring it up but I will just this once: taking a RB at #2 is always risky business.
I just don't know who else you take there. No one's drafting a CB (Ward) over a RB and QB.
Darnold sucks.
Rosen sucks.
Allen hasn't really accomplished anything on his own.
I feel like in hindsight the #2 pick was a poisoned chalice. If we had picked Josh Allen we'd have been ripped for reaching for him.
you absolutely take a CB over a RB.
I definitely understand WHY GM DG took Barkley cause he is just a beast in the open field, unstoppable if he played behind a top OL. Just that its a position where you take a lot of hits and don't last long. Tough break for us.
Lets hope it is something "partial" at worst for Barkley...
will just be injury prone. Unfortunately SB may fit that mold. I always hold off on moving on from a QB until they at least have a competent OL and running game. That said if Jones continues to turn the ball over he will need to sit a game or two.
Season ender? Exact reason you don’t invest in running backs...
Especially with this awful OL. Zeitler looks like toast to me. I feel bad for 26, but he’s going to want to get paid in his second contract and simply isn’t worth it.
This is why you don't pick a RB #2 overall. I hate Getty I hate Getty.
I gotta agree with this. Build an OL and grab a back in the early to mid rounds or via FA.
So you pick shitty Sam Darnold instead.
Sorry, we're not better off with him.
that's false logic. passing on Barkley does not mean picking Darnold. That's only on BBI.
EVERYONE was clamoring for a QB. Who you taking? Josh Rosen? Bust.
Josh Allen? Jury's still out honestly.
It doesn't matter what EVERYONE was clamoring for. By all accounts, Bradley Chubb would have been the pick if not for Barkley.
No one is drafting a LB second when rebuilding a franchise.
You also don’t draft running backs when rebuilding a franchise.
m
The smart move there was to trade down, especially considering how many holes they had. Even an additional premium pick allows you to build a depleted roster. But Gettleman doesn’t trade down.
The Giants topped on 3rd down so we gotta punt....
Now you have to hope the Giants can stop them and at least get a chance to get some points before the half.
I knew they weren't going to risk it on 4th. Good play by Giants to at least try...for an off-sides...but man oh man are we stinking it up on the road.
This is why you don't pick a RB #2 overall. I hate Getty I hate Getty.

you are assuming he did not want to trade down. You need a willing trade partner who would return the value that you need.
If Gettleman traded down for the sake of trading down and get less than what YOU believe we should have received... then your criticism would be that he gave the spot away.
There is no winning no matter what he does.
RE: Not having Gallman active is an embarrassment. huge knock on Judge.
I think he was gone after this season anyway...they just didn’t want to turn the keys over to Judge right out of the gate.
They’ll likely bring someone in who is happy to work with Judge, and Judge will get his chance to build the roster as he wants.
Judge era off to an awful start, but he’ll get graded on a curve bc of Covid mucking up the offseason this year. He’ll get his chance with a new GM before they cut bait on him too
This team has rarely played competitive games since the 2016 season. Typically out of every game by halftime and done for the season by October. Mediocre football would be a dramatic improvement. It’s painfu to watch, I support anyone venting.

he better not hire someone from within the organization or someone with any ties to this franchise. We need a complete outsider to come in here and change everything how this franchise is run from top to bottom .

+1. It isn't just this year. We've won fewer games in the last three years than any other team.

Let’s hope not! They would have to do another extensive search IMO.

The rah rah guys will show up after the game or mid week and blast anyone who dares question an organization that’s been terrible since 2013. They won’t dare do it during the game, because then they’d have to answer for the product on the field.

I dont know how MARA can face the fans and say we just promoted assistant GM Abrams to the GM role after being the worst team in the NFL for the last 3+ years. if he does that , there needs to be an intervention by the commissioner
None. Same problems. Don't know what to say at this point. It's 3 different coaching staffs and nothing improves. In fact they may have even regressed in some areas, which is almost impossible to believe.
Some things never change. Not certain if this team can win a game this year. Also not certain why your Defensive Coordinator gives up his DL and leaves the QB without any pressure.
Depending upon the extent of the Barkley injury, this is the worst half of Giants football I have watched in a few years. Just horrible on offense and the injury didn't look good given it was non-contact AND Saquon's face looked like "its over guys..." - just a sad day for fans.
Another horrible DC hiring.. They just can't get it right. It starts at the TOP and this franchise is not getting it done.. That was another horrible defensive play call!! Bltiz you stupid fuck!!

Sucks when Tisch has to be the voice of reason to this franchises future success. Let’s hope Tisch says enough or I’m selling my shares. This franchise has been a dumpster fire for the greater part of the past decade. Completely inept.
In 14 short weeks, a sea change is coming. New g.m, with a first round pick....and hopefully......the “george young” moment we all need and should pray for.
poor guy is a 6th round pick. I don't blame him for being a poor starting corner - no one expected him to be. That's why he was drafted in the 6th round.
Afraid of blitzing? Every 3rd down he rushes 3, and Trubisky waits until someone gets open. This game is over unless the Bears don’t show up in the 2nd half.
Rightly or wrongly, the point of that defensive call wasn't a sack
When you rush 3 and drop 8 its because we thought we could stop them by basically having 2 defenders for each receiver. Lots of teams use this on passing downs, and most teams switch to keep the offense off balance.
Its a normal, legit strategy, but we can't let someone get open
But you can’t expect the corners to cover for 15 seconds. That’s all on the d-line. Embarrassing.
This was the problem last season, Jackrabbit commented on it back then. No pressure on the passer is going to hurt your secondary.
Joe Judge's post-match press conference is going to be interesting.
And Barkley and Shep are two of our locker room leaders
Not sure what to do in the second half. I'd make the changes I suggested, and get rid of the "amoeba" defense. It produces zero pass rush. Trubisky has all day to throw.
Well, that half was bad about every way a half could be bad.
And Barkley and Shep are two of our locker room leaders
markky : 2:21 pm : link : reply
and have by all accounts really stepped up this year as leaders. sucks if they're both hurt.
IF?
all that draft capital and trade capital on the d-line
and am glad to see he realized it was not working and changed things.... only game 2 but does not seem like a good hire... rushing 3 guys ...... not agressive at all

When a good player points out the obvious, the FO corrects the problem: toss the player.
But hes really in an impossible situation right now. Offensive line stinks, no running game, his weapons are engram who stinks, tate and shepard who are never healthy, and slayton.
realistic scenario where they can win more than 3 games. It’s just so disheartening to be looking down the barrel of a gun knowing it’s going to go off. Or has it already gone off?!
At least the Eagles and Cowboys are getting clocked too.
Big deal. Both those teams will have their "get things right" games against the Giants. Giants couldn't even beat the Eagles last year with Phillys Home Depot squad.
But hes really in an impossible situation right now. Offensive line stinks, no running game, his weapons are engram who stinks, tate and shepard who are never healthy, and slayton.
Outside of Slayton he has NOTHING to work with.
Yup.

People jumping off bridges right now are delusional. Bears would hang with Pitt. We don't have a lot of talent, and we have a brand new set of coaches and scheme. I can't believe people were so confident in this game here.
Newsflash: We are going to suck for at least the 1st half of the year, and guess what? Even when this team gets comfortable with the schemes, we don't have the talent of Teams like the Bears not even close.

I think you might be the delusional one my friend. We have been watching the same thing for 4 years straight.

Ownership let Reese and Ross run this team into the ground over a period of several years, and it has never been able to recover.
Agreed. The "euphoria" of winning the 2011 SB with a 9 - 7 team that got hot kept Reese and Ross at the helm longer than they should ever have been around. We hired back-to-back disasters for HC followed by DG believing in 2018 he could stay competititve with ELI while rebuilding.
Easy to see with a crystal ball how bad that was but we shall see how things go.
Now halftime. Gotta say it. This team sucks-out loud.
They look uninspired, disinterested, confused and basically talentless. More importantly, they are not competitive. There are no leaders and they have no personality, The offensive line is still terrible. New faces, same result. And with all the talk we heard about Marc Colombo and what he could do, BS. Daniel Jones looks more and more like Eli Manning II and now Barkley is likely out for the year.
Suggest finding a better way to spend Sunday afternoons this fall.

Oh come on, man. They are worse than they ever were with Reese. Sorry, this is Gettleman's team through and through. You don't get to pin everything on the Jerry Reese boogeyman anymore.
thought they'd win this game. Not even close. We really need something good to happen to start the second half.
We have the ball first, but even if we can somehow manage to score, we can’t stop the Bears from scoring. Secondary is giving up large chunks in the middle again this year.

The issue is with ownership. They should not get a pass with their cronyism and nepotism to run this franchise into the ground.

Johnny5, you need Newton Crosby Ph.D to do some reprogramming

also agree. Granted ownership has been the same with both and many staff members and scouting.
But not Reese. Shit the team won a superbowl with Reese. He can't get knocked that bad
I’m trying to imagine that collaborative conversation between Judge, Graham, and Gettleman about tagging Williams, and Graham secretly plotting not to play him on third down all year.
RE: Six quarters, 14 practices, and two scrimmages
is the guy to get. I think Fields will be a huge bust.
Trevor Lawrence is not fixing this shitty defense, this shitty offensive line, the lack of a running game, receivers who cant get separation/stay healthy.
Sure he will likely be an improvement but this team has so little talent across the board that unless they completely change everything in the front office and MARA stays hands off i really dont think it matters who the QB is
they were compromised by this offseason...every team is dealing with the same thing. It is not an excuse.

True, but you still need to take a generational QB and then worry about fixing the rest later if he's there.

The Giants aren't the only team going into a new season with the same conditions you just mentioned.
was bull rushed, but there was time for Jones to throw. The problem is that our WRs can't separate. The Bears now only care about Slayton, and maybe Engram. They know Tate is probably still gimpy from his hamstring. We really have nothing on offense. A suspect OL, one WR, no RB, and a TE who makes plays occasionally.
Guards suck ass.....my goodness we are bad right now. Talent? Play design? Combo? I don’t know but we’ve certainly got a long way to go as a team. We’re looking very Washington like right now and look like bottom dwellers. Dallas and Philly will most likely find their way eventually. Man this just sucks trying to be patient with this team after so many years of losing!

1st of all, im really not sure any QB in the league can win with this team right now other then maybe maholmes or jackson who can just take off and run themselves .
2nd, even if Lawrence is an improvement over Jones unless there are major wholesale changes to the roster and that will only happen with a whole new Front office it wont matter much. Who is Lawrence throwing the ball to ? What is he going to do when hes getting pressured every play ? What is he going to do when he steps back to throw and nobody is open because nobody can get separation ?
I'm not saying dont draft him if the opportunity is there. I'm saying that this team is a completely fucking mess and the QB play is not fixing the majority of the issues
for the 49ers. So just a bad day for the NFL with injuries.
Wow
Even if they’re out next week against the Giants, we’ll still have a hard time winning. At this point we just have to figure out how to win a freaking game!
but this is what im talking about with jones. NO help at all from anybody on offense. He has to do everything himself . Put him on a competent team and i think he would be a very good QB in due time
is the guy to get. I think Fields will be a huge bust.
I just looked at the schedules and I doubt either the Jets or Panthers will be winning more than three games. The Panthers perhaps by design, the Jets because, well they're the Jets.
Whichever of those two and ourselves gets the first pick, I'd take Lawrence without missing a heartbeat.

That's not the point. No one player will turn this team around. But they don't have a QB and Lawrence looks like he will be a really good one.
is the guy to get. I think Fields will be a huge bust.
I just looked at the schedules and I doubt either the Jets or Panthers will be winning more than three games. The Panthers perhaps by design, the Jets because, well they're the Jets.

They have a QB. Jones has only played like 14 games.

I hope they draft Lawrence and when this team still stinks people will finally realize how bad this roster is overall and stop blaming the QB
Not if the Giants conducts their GM search as they did in 2017, where they clearly were only targeting executives who sold them that Eli could still play. They’ll likely only have one interview question , “what do you think of Jones?”
Lawrence wouldn't do any better with this team. Jones isn't the problem. He's already shown he can win. He just has nothing to work with except Slayton, especially if Barkley is out for an extended period of time. He also has the temperament to succeed in New York. Lawrence is an unknown.

If you can draft Trevor Lawrence, you draft him.
I admit I want to see how Jones does the rest of the year, but right now my inclination would be to trade the pick for a huge ransom.

How has Jones already shown he can win? Not trying to be a dick here but he hasn’t shown anything consistently enough other than turnovers to make a definitive statement like this.
lol yea...but he couldn't shed a tackle from a cb he outweighs by 60 lbs. and on the next play he ran a terrible route and made no effort to catch the ball. still though...matchup nightmare.

I am so tired of the temperament argument. This isn’t 1985, players are under the microscope everywhere. I must have also missed the part where jones showed us he can win, he’s on the verge of 3-11 as a starter. I’m a Jones supporter, but the turnovers are a serious issues and not something you see true franchise qbs dealing with.

Maybe but this team is so bad and has so little talent on both sides of the ball that he still wont make much of a difference

I think he did remarkably well last year, the fumbles notwithstanding. This will be a big debate if we are in a position to draft Lawrence.
He reared back his shoulder and lunged downward aiming low, anticipating the slide. He was cocking back hoping to blow up a sliding QB. Dirty motherfucker.
End of 3rd quarter and Giants finally look cohesive on offense
I think I'm being hard on this team: new everything and we are on the road against a decent team on a short week. Our first half was as bad as it gets but at least this team is fightling and protecting Jones!
Jaguars have a significantly better offensive line, defense, and offensive weapons. We have no consistent recievers, TE, this version of Barkley that Jones has had since he became QB isn't a great player. We also have one of the worst lines in the league.
He also doesn't have the pressure of the NY market.
My point was what did you expect? A whole new staff a whole new scheme, we already new we didn't have a ton of talent, and our OL is 3/5 new with a rookie a a center that has one game at center. What in the fucking world were you people expecting?
And... here that are still playing hard and in the game.

Add to that the whole fact that was being done under extremely bad conditions for a new coach and a new scheme.

I was expecting the GM to be able to put together at least an average roster in year three. I don't think that was some kind of pie-in-the-sky expectation.
Lewis runs more physical than “Saquads” and he’s 40 lbs lighter.
This is nonsense.
The difference was Lewis had a hole to run into.
No this is nonsense. He would have been stopped at the 1 yard line and the excuses for him would have been he had no hole what do you expect ? Lewis got hit but kept on running even after contact
play by Johnson. Good drive. But there is nothing for Jones. He has time, but the receivers can't separate. He's also throwing against five and six DBs regularly.
Lets be real here: our defense needs a 3 and out or turnover so Jones can orchestrate a dink n dunk TD drive.
I do appreciate that this team didn't quit. I appreciate that this OL stuck up for D. Jones (remember the D. Brown years when the OL turned their back on that ass..), but I especially appreciate that "man down" they are stepping up and showing they want to win ON the ROAD against a good team.
No word on Saquon has me thinking that is a good thing???
Well you had other guys on our defense just standing their watching the play. If they were chasing the ball they would have potentially been in position to intercept it off of the bounce

Weird I saw no lateral movement of his knee on that play
but it's good to see fight. But for that unlucky conversion, we'd have had a shorter field and more time. Maybe.... Either way, disappointing, but glad to see them in it until the final snap.
OK with the short pass on the next to last play. Forcing the ball could result in a tipped INT with all those DBs. Keep the drive alive for one last play.

I dont know I say take two shots
at least it was interesting until the end

I can see it either way, but there were a lot of DBs on the field for obvious reasons. We were no threat to run that far away from the end zone, especially with no timeouts.
I was much more concerned about HOW the Giants played football rather than wins & losses.
But, today, that goes out the window.
This current Giants team hasn’t learned yet how to play winning football for 60 minutes.
No better time than now against da Bears to figure it out.
At least for one game.

#Bears Mitch Trubisky and Allen Robinson targeted #Giants Corey Ballentine again and again and again in the second half of last year's matchup. Ballentine was playing mostly in the slot and out of position then. Matchup to watch today.
Damn, wrong thread. Was aiming for the prediction thread.
This is a 1pm game vs. Mitchell Trubisky and an average Bears squad, no reason we can't step up and get the W.
I was much more concerned about HOW the Giants played football rather than wins & losses.

Turnovers are the killer, especially in second half. Keep the turnovers on offense down, and Defense needs to learn how to step up and close out games. A pass rush would help.
They said as much on the pregame. Not that the pregame guys necessarily know for sure, but I assume that’s what the Giants will do
Not a fan at all.
Lets see how often Jints run motion on O
I showed my age and put on Giants/Bears thinking it would be on FOX.
You should be overjoyed they made that many.
Defense sucks
Luckily, the Giants aren’t a joke.
Jabrill Peppers, the "captain" is not a starting safety in the NFL. His value to this team is as a PR.
The defensive line ain't looking so hot either.
I'll go left side -3 yards.
It's one series...let's go, no panic.
Need to stop the run
Unfortunately true.
A little premature, ya think? Anyway this team won't be bad enough to have a shot at Lawrence. He'll be a Detroit Lion, I'm guessing.
Quote:
Any guesses for the first play from offense? Barkley right tackle -3 yards.
I'll go left side -3 yards.
I'm thinking pass to Engram, 8 yards.
Yikes...
Awful start
Yep Zeitler gets beat and a blitzing DB not picked up, and waiting for Barkley when he gets the handoff. How can this happen every play?
Yea I was gonna mow after. Might go out early.
Yup.......should have been a TD. Secondary looking horrendous
We are lucky that passed was dropped by Miller. It was perfectly thrown by Trubisky.
He's laughing his ass off at us right now.
This team that Gettleman put together is a joke and Mara is a bigger clown for still keeping him around
How exactly did Barkley dance? You are making up your own facts. He took the handoff and there were 2 guys waiting. Should he just fall down, put his head down and run into their stomach?
the problem wasn't the fumble per se. He wasted time in the pocket and panicked, which led to the fumble.

He should just hit the designated hole
the problem there is the play calling.. they need to get barkley in space. he isn't going to break runs when he's met in the backfield.

What hole? He never got to a hole. How can you hit a hole when you are getting hit bin the backfield
He just ran for 5 straight up the middle with no hesitation dragging players.
The odds of us getting the first pick is slim to none. We always win a game or two at the end of the year to fuck it up
Next week they will suck again.
This team that Gettleman put together is a joke and Mara is a bigger clown for still keeping him around
Lawrence would definitely help the OL. And he could keep the D off the field for a breather. He's light years better than what we're seeing from DJ8.
Agreed. Stutter steps wont help when 3 defenders have you surrounded. Hit the line hard and try to get a yard or two
the answer to a stacked line is to get Barkley out for screens and flares. the play calling is bad
Next week they will suck again.
Don’t think that will happen. Judge is very loyal to him. It’ll be a few years before that happens IMO. He’s also an assistant HC?!
And no time to throw so we are running quick routes, with no one that can threading the secondary. We are in a world of hurt if this doesn't change.

The issue is when you get hit right after taking the hand off you have no momentum, you've barely taken a step. You can't run through someone from a standing still position. Give him 2 steps then sure, like on the 5 yard run. But that first play he was basically still standing when they were there

I agree but until they bring in a competent GM and stop using people they are comfortable with in the "giants way " this team is never going anywhere . It all starts with MARA
Agreed. We can't replace the whole OL, but I'd seriously consider Lemieux to replace Zeitler. I'd also use Smith more as a blocking TE.
64k question.
RB Montgomery eating them up on the ground...
The Giants DL better pick it up here on 3rd
There's no other screens with games I can watch while commercials are going on.
Watching it on stream at home, it's just awful.
Agreed. Overall,it's a bad product.
2030.
When the Giants stop employing incompetent boobs in their front office.
I think Judge is just trying to be optimistic in the face of leading one if the worst assemblages of talent in the league.
Jones fumble was heart-breaking but our run defense is just as heart-breaking so far.
This is the DRIVE we either settle down and show the Bears we are here to play or we run, run, missed 3rd, punt...
Giants must get their butt in gear here and show us why Judge believes....
We’ve seen this act before. It’s very early, but BBI celebrating press conferences of coaches is the definition of insanity. Every new coach, we celebrate the press conference before a single game is played. As most of us have said, we have no idea what judge is.

See there is good news...
We possibly could get the first pick. Can’t believe I’m thinking of the draft now.
Something is just off. I think Jones needs one good no huddle drive to get some timing. His clock is shot and Engram doesn't help.

Giants might be the worst team in the NFL. Not a lot of favorable games on the schedule. But Jones will probably pull a Gene Smith and win some meaningless late games

The tough reality is a premium running back has about 5-6 top years. You can probably assume Barkley is now half way through that now.

not just risky, but the difference between what you get with the #2 overall pick and what you can get in the 4th round isn't that much compared to what you can do to help the OL or DL with that high a pick. and it's showing on the field.

OK, blaming Baker on him is like blaming Chad Jones on Reese. Sam Beal is fair, but he's one bad pick out of the dozens that Reese made.

The Barkley pick has done more damage to this franchise than any of those picks...sorry. Barkley is great but you waste a #2 overall on a running back behind an awful front line and now he has been hurt last year and seems like he will miss all of next year and possibly more if the injury is series enough.

The smart move there was to trade down, especially considering how many holes they had. Even an additional premium pick allows you to build a depleted roster. But Gettleman doesn’t trade down.
Now you have to hope the Giants can stop them and at least get a chance to get some points before the half.
I knew they weren't going to risk it on 4th. Good play by Giants to at least try...for an off-sides...but man oh man are we stinking it up on the road.
After saquon goes down is definitely time to double down on the rushing game.

Yup.
They apparently thought someone on the Bears would just decide to cross the line while the QB was just standing there ready to call TO.
Is Tate playing? I didn't notice.

Judge is in his second game and jus lost his best player for season. You wanna give him a vhance haha

you are assuming he did not want to trade down. You need a willing trade partner who would return the value that you need.
If Gettleman traded down for the sake of trading down and get less than what YOU believe we should have received... then your criticism would be that he gave the spot away.

Maybe 3-4 years and 2 knee surgeries ago.
The funny part is there are people who still defend him . Any other franchise he would have been fired already
I’m not sure he can. Franchise needs a Pete rozelle style intervention.

it is probably a regular poster who does not have the balls to speak with his regular ID
Trubinsky looks like a ProBowl QB these last 3 quarters...
You don’t think Gettleman will get a pass with a whole new coaching staff? We’re two years away from a new GM. Two more years of dumb decisions.
He’ll get his chance with a new GM before they cut bait on him too
Yes
+1. It isn't just this year. We've won fewer games in the last three years than any other team.
The Giants have just not added good players at the clip necessary.
He already hired Abrams. You know that
Apparently some of us are supposed to be ok being he worst team in football the last 3 + years and still have faith in this ownership and front office

The rah rah guys will show up after the game or mid week and blast anyone who dares question an organization that’s been terrible since 2013. They won’t dare do it during the game, because then they’d have to answer for the product on the field.
I don't think you'll find a lot of CBs who can cover a WR for that long
We're supposed to be patient now.

I dont know how MARA can face the fans and say we just promoted assistant GM Abrams to the GM role after being the worst team in the NFL for the last 3+ years. if he does that , there needs to be an intervention by the commissioner
Can't wait to see their no QB offense.

Right? Is that today's message to the millennial players?

Sucks when Tisch has to be the voice of reason to this franchises future success. Let’s hope Tisch says enough or I’m selling my shares. This franchise has been a dumpster fire for the greater part of the past decade. Completely inept.
Can’t blame him on that one. Can’t except a corner to stay with the receiver when the QB has forever
Ryan Logan for Corey Ballentine.
Shane Lemieux for Kevin Zeitler.
This is terrible.
He’s got some developing to do that’s certain.
poor guy is a 6th round pick. I don't blame him for being a poor starting corner - no one expected him to be. That's why he was drafted in the 6th round.
Outside of the one sack last week Leonard Williams has been invisible.
Its a normal, legit strategy, but we can't let someone get open

Yes.

Totally Agree. I heard he was ‘aggressive’.
13/18, 159 2 touchdowns 0 interceptions
This was the problem last season, Jackrabbit commented on it back then. No pressure on the passer is going to hurt your secondary.
Joe Judge's post-match press conference is going to be interesting.
If this wasn't so depressing that might even be funny.
Not sure what to do in the second half. I'd make the changes I suggested, and get rid of the "amoeba" defense. It produces zero pass rush. Trubisky has all day to throw.

and have by all accounts really stepped up this year as leaders. sucks if they're both hurt.

f*ck out of here DG
This is a real test for Judge to keep them fighting
Glad the Joe Judge non-nonsense approach is paying off versus hiring a coach with actual HC abilities.
Glad those Gettleman moves are really working out.
Glad all those offensive draft picks are really working out for previous two regimes
A silver lining: at least there is a sign of a pass rush and defense...minus the lack of talent.
My dad says this is worse than the mid 1990's Giants looked in the post-Simms/LT era.

Oh, it's absolutely worse than the Reeves teams. That team at least had a solid defense, just zero offense.
Outside of Slayton he has NOTHING to work with.
Big deal. Both those teams will have their "get things right" games against the Giants. Giants couldn't even beat the Eagles last year with Phillys Home Depot squad.
Where is Tate? Where is Engram?
Maybe the 1870s because this isn’t even football.

Actually, no, at least you could rely on the Defense then. Offense was the biggest joke in the 70s.

The issue is with ownership. They should not get a pass with their cronyism and nepotism to run this franchise into the ground.
At some point this has to have a statute of limitations, no?

I still believe in Daniel Jones. IMO a great pick and a franchise QB. His stats for a QB's first 13 games are elite and record setting.
I’m trying to imagine that collaborative conversation between Judge, Graham, and Gettleman about tagging Williams, and Graham secretly plotting not to play him on third down all year.
Some of you have your expectations way too high.
I hope this was satire
Trevor Lawrence is not fixing this shitty defense, this shitty offensive line, the lack of a running game, receivers who cant get separation/stay healthy.
Sure he will likely be an improvement but this team has so little talent across the board that unless they completely change everything in the front office and MARA stays hands off i really dont think it matters who the QB is
Not every team was breaking in new schemes in every area of the game

Not if the Giants conducts their GM search as they did in 2017, where they clearly were only targeting executives who sold them that Eli could still play. They’ll likely only have one interview question , “what do you think of Jones?”

I admit I want to see how Jones does the rest of the year, but right now my inclination would be to trade the pick for a huge ransom.

How has Jones already shown he can win? Not trying to be a dick here but he hasn’t shown anything consistently enough other than turnovers to make a definitive statement like this.

a matchup nightmare
Does he have a single catch yet?
lol yea...but he couldn't shed a tackle from a cb he outweighs by 60 lbs. and on the next play he ran a terrible route and made no effort to catch the ball. still though...matchup nightmare.
Again, I do think that Jones isn't the biggest problem, but he absolutely has not shown he can win.

I am so tired of the temperament argument. This isn’t 1985, players are under the microscope everywhere. I must have also missed the part where jones showed us he can win, he’s on the verge of 3-11 as a starter. I’m a Jones supporter, but the turnovers are a serious issues and not something you see true franchise qbs dealing with.

you're on drugs. Lawrence is in a completely different league than Jones.
Maybe but this team is so bad and has so little talent on both sides of the ball that he still wont make much of a difference
Come on?! He needs help. He can’t do it himself. Neither could Eli in his prime.

They have a QB. Jones has only played like 14 games.
26 turnovers in 14 games is something, yeah.
Is Jones giving up all those 3rd down completions? Wide open receivers all over the place? Jones is the lest of their problems.
He sucks today. And the same things that were an issue last year are an issue now.
It's not too much to state that he isn't showing improvement in being an absolute turnover machine.
Louis Riddick...come on down! Should've hired him instead.

I think he did remarkably well last year, the fumbles notwithstanding. This will be a big debate if we are in a position to draft Lawrence.
Lol
Nice, another easy penalty you take that 5 yards.
For all the times Eli has been bludgeoned in the head. Who cares?
Let’s go Giants! Get a win!

That’s kind of a lame penalty honestly.

He jumped over the QB. He might not have even touched him.
Jones second year. Rookie HC, Slayton, Sheppard/Tate, Engram, Barkley. OL Rook LT, WH, Gates, Zeit, Flem
I don't know about you......but seems like a big difference. His turnovers are very concerning but he shows big time signs imo.
I don't have time for Dimes excuses.
Jaguars have a significantly better offensive line, defense, and offensive weapons. We have no consistent recievers, TE, this version of Barkley that Jones has had since he became QB isn't a great player. We also have one of the worst lines in the league.
He also doesn't have the pressure of the NY market.
I hope, but the way he reacted I doubt it.
Barkley might be back in a few weeks. His career as an explosive player might be over. We don't know.
Yup. Garrett and Jones making chicken salad out of chicken shit on this drive, but our running game offers zero threat

is going to kill the Giants.

Glad to be wrong, at least for one 4th and goal
My point was what did you expect? A whole new staff a whole new scheme, we already new we didn't have a ton of talent, and our OL is 3/5 new with a rookie a a center that has one game at center. What in the fucking world were you people expecting?
And... here that are still playing hard and in the game.
Or a top 5 all-time tight end
Let’s go Big Blue!
Bring some fucking pain defense! Let’s fucking go here!
Now we need the defense to prevent another score.
I don't care about that interception. I care that he keeps holding onto the ball in the pocket and getting it stripped. This is not a new issue.
Let's go. We can still win.

Add to that the whole fact that was being done under extremely bad conditions for a new coach and a new scheme.
This is nonsense.
The difference was Lewis had a hole to run into.
And... here that are still playing hard and in the game.
I was expecting the GM to be able to put together at least an average roster in year three. I don't think that was some kind of pie-in-the-sky expectation.
You are correct sir.
NOOOOOO! That will wreck the draft!
Fuck You!
Knock it off with the optimism. Don’t you know it’s all doom and gloom
And there is just some weird CBS quality I can't put my finger on that pervades every ad they have for their own shows.

Lewis runs more physical than “Saquads” and he’s 40 lbs lighter.

No this is nonsense. He would have been stopped at the 1 yard line and the excuses for him would have been he had no hole what do you expect ? Lewis got hit but kept on running even after contact

Or are there a lot more commercials on CBS?

great play bradberry!
You're a dick troll
He's the goods!
Do it offense! Down their fucking throats!
Agreed. Our ball.
I’d take him on the Giants no problem.

their video quality is less vivid
yes, can't put my finger on it either, but even listening to the broadcast i feel like i'm going back in time.
Agreed!
Nick Bosa carter off with bad knee injury.
Saquon Barkley carried off with knee injury.
Parris Campbell carted off with knee injury.
Drew Lock in locker room with shoulder injury.
Man....
really?
Very clear!
How in the world do u see the replay and come with that take?

Have to wonder no preseason and barely an offseason how ready are these guys really?
If D. Lewis and W. Gallman have to carry the ball the rest of the year, we will be OK.
No word on Barkley's XRays?
Welp. 20-17. Believe and it will happen!
Welp. 20-17. Believe and it will happen!
Your lips to Gods ears!
He is waiting for receivers to get open which is a huge problem on this team
Yup was thinking the same. He’s holding his own for the second week in a row against a legit pass rush team
Yes. The sack on DJ was due to no RB or TE to help on that side. Thomas was locked up inside.

Get the ball out quicker

Yup. We are all sick of looking for morale victories, but this team is showing some guts fighting this hard on the second half
He can play.
It's too bad the fans aren't there to take it all in:)
Some genius thought it was a good time to run multiple backups out there.

They're there. Unfortunately the cardboard fans are more useful than the Giants defense.
Need a stop here!
how is it even possible
really bad
Agree
Well you had other guys on our defense just standing their watching the play. If they were chasing the ball they would have potentially been in position to intercept it off of the bounce
Bears convert on 4th and probably end game on a tipped ball caught by a fat OL at the line to gain hahaha
Thats did look like it came out at the end
That was blatant holding
That was blatant holding
Carter has gotten mugged at least a couple times that I’ve seen
we're going to learn a lot right now. gun to head, i say DJ comes through.
@AdamSchefter
Giants fear RB Saquon Barkley suffered a torn ACL today, sources tell me and
@JordanRaanan
. One source said the torn ACL was “certainly within the realm” but there will be more tests Monday to make a full and complete determination.
Need to use more DJ legs on this drive. Get him out of pocket or move him around. They are going to just tee off on him now!
I was talking a lot of shit about the amoeba defense, but ultimately, the D overall played well
Seriously. We are telling HOLD as it happens and the official is so close he’s in the frame. No call. Incredible shit.

Someone called it, but DJ needs to complete the deal here !

Weird I saw no lateral movement of his knee on that play
two bullshit plays so far
Giants in first place
For sure. Time to call a couple plays
Just can’t get tackled inbounds
I thought it was a first down.
2 shots at the end zone and that's that.
What a total abortion of an organization right now.
Fuck off refs
We will get better as a team but if Saquon is gone for the season we lose our HR threat and easy hit receiver.
0-2.
2 shots at the end zone and that's that.

agree WTF was that
had two shots in the endzone as you said
Mind blowing.
Played hard. 0-2.

I don’t know if they could have made two plays to the end zone. It would have been cutting it very close.
Agreed! We could have won both games too if only we had scored more points than our opponents.

He's gone, they announced torn ACL.
Yup. I'm not impressed. Same old trash.
I dont know I say take two shots
at least it was interesting until the end
I think he also needs to use his legs more, but he Never would of made it.
Quote:
OK with the short pass on the next to last play. Forcing the ball could result in a tipped INT with all those DBs. Keep the drive alive for one last play.

I can see it either way, but there were a lot of DBs on the field for obvious reasons. We were no threat to run that far away from the end zone, especially with no timeouts.
if their damn offensive lineman doesnt dive for the first down on the tipped ball... i think they win that game.
hell of an NFC East we got here, eh?
That means two shots into the end zone.
Why the fuck did Daniel Jones complete a 5-yard pass to the 10 yard line burning six seconds.
That is a huge fucking mistake.

I’m not sure if he would have made it but I think it would have been closer than what we got.

The Bears last drive was the killer. They used too much clock and thenD was gassed. Couldn’t get off they field, gave up too much running yardage.
