They have gotten smarter, I tried and couldn't do it. If you travel to NY and set your location there, it will still think NY is your home market even when you go home. You just need to go back every 3 months or so.

used my VPN for NY before I went to the site on a different browser than I normally use, confirmed my address as a NY zip code upon sign up, and it actually is working.
