Andrew Thomas so far

Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 9/20/2020 4:36 pm
Just wanted to get your guys’ general thoughts on is play so far. Not gonna lie I turned off the game for like 10 mins of game time in the 2nd quarter due to just being pissed, but besides that and from what I saw I was very impressed by Thomas. The sack by Mack was a miscommunication that I’m not sure was even his fault. But he was doing a great job neutralizing his man in the pass rush imo. Does anyone feel he’s been disappointing?
He's been solid

No complaints about him.
Big part of the solution

going forward. Faced very stiff competition first two games and held his own. Rookie LT with no offseason and off to a very good start.
He's good.

It's still a small sample size, but teams are not going to target him.
He's doing okay, actually
islander1 : 9/20/2020 4:39 pm : link
he's not getting outmanned very much. I've been surprised.
He's getting beat by NFL blitzes that aren't necessarily his fault most of the time.

When it comes to blocking the man right in front of him, he's doing pretty damn well so far.
He's doing well

And you're right, they overloaded his side and he correctly blocked inside out, that was just a good defensive play call that DJ didn't see and change out of. Most rookie LTs struggle a bit or even start at RT but Thomas against two of the best front 7 combos in the NFL two weeks in a row has acquitted himself well. Gates played far far better too, he and Hernandez were critical on the 4th and goal TD run.

We were never making any run or winning anything significant, this is a year to lay ground work and look for improvement.
Very satisfied with his play

Like the rest above, I think he's part of the solution.
I heard Mack’s name

Yup, and once was when Thomas had 2 rushers to deal with and took the inside guy, which is what he’s supposed to do I think.

Haven’t see any obvious disasters with him through 2 games. Can’t see enough to grade his work in the run game (except that overall our whole OL has sucked)
So

We dont have to hear about how Gettleman made the wrong pick?
From what I can see he has played really well
Thunderstruck27 : 9/20/2020 4:47 pm : link
for a rookie. He did miss an assignment on Mack one play that led to a sack.
He's playing like a veteran after no OTAs or pre-season games.

Fingers crossed, but it looks like they got the right guy.
I’d rate his play so far as average to slightly above
Biteymax22 : 9/20/2020 5:01 pm : link
That doesn’t sound like much, but starting the year against Dupree/Watt and Mack/Quinn and performing average to slightly above is pretty freaking good.

He’s getting a trail by fire and not burning.
He has play well
rasbutant : 9/20/2020 5:12 pm : link
I saw at least one bad play though. Jones bailed him out by running the ball and they also got the 15yard penalty tacked on. But #50 of the bears beat him pretty bad on an inside move.
For a rookie LT
darren in pdx : 9/20/2020 5:18 pm : link
going up against some of the best defenses and players in the league with no proper offseason..looking really good so far. That was a pick the franchise desperately needed to hit on.
It's not a stretch to say he's been the best offensive lineman
Ten Ton Hammer : 9/20/2020 5:19 pm : link
Which is really not a great thing considering that Zeitler was supposed to be a cornerstone.
I also thought
Dave on the UWS : 9/20/2020 5:26 pm : link
Gates and Hernandez were better (Hernandez has one bad play I clearly saw). If they eventually develop a run game BECAUSE of the OL, then it will only be even better next season.
Thomas average

What are you watching?
So far he has more than held his own against the best defenses in
PatersonPlank : 9/20/2020 5:30 pm : link
the NFL. It will just get easier for him.

I think he should definitely be in the running for rookie of the year (based on play so far only obviously)

Man In The Box : 9/20/2020 5:32 pm : link
Even more impressive with the limited offseason
I don't know, maybe I'm being hard on him, but
barens : 9/20/2020 6:19 pm : link
I thought he had a terrible game. I'll have to rewatch(if I can stomach it). He got beat by Quinn for a strip sack, and Mack and Quinn and multiple pressures. He got better in the 4th quarter than goodness, but he lost a quite a few battles today.

Giving average LT play out the box is pretty god damn impressive. I mean I think most of us got on board because his floor was average LT and ceiling is there with his tools. So he's already shown us the floor player he'll be (generally don't judge players after two games but when they hold their own against the leagues best I'll make an exception)
You guys
SleepyOwl : 9/20/2020 11:02 pm : link
Remember a guy by the name of Ereck Flowers? Yea this is the complete opposite of that.
Thomas has held his own as far as I can tell
SGMen : 9/20/2020 11:48 pm : link
It is the play of veterans Zeitler, Fleming and new OC Gates that concern me most.

Week 3 is big to see where we are. The 49'ers are banged up so we shall see.
