Trading back for Sewell if we get the #1 pick?

BestFeature : 9/20/2020 8:31 pm
I doubt we get the #1 pick but many here seem to be at least entertaining that thought. But am I crazy if I prefer Sewell + what we get in a trade back + Jones is better than Lawrence + what we get for Jones. I have to assume the #1 pick is going to get us more than Jones. I would then move Thomas to RT.
nope. i'm a fan of Jones
markky : 9/20/2020 8:32 pm : link
and think he has a future, but Lawrence >> Jones.
If the Giants
lax counsel : 9/20/2020 8:33 pm : link
Get the number 1 pick it will be a complete regime change and they will start over with their own qb. In no universe is Jones as talented as Lawrence, it’s just a different level. Lawrence does everything at an elite level.
I think at the end of this year if you do an inventory of all QBs
markky : 9/20/2020 8:36 pm : link
drafted in the last 3 years and stack rank them you'd have to agree that there are several you'd trade Jones for straight up, probably including at least one drafted this year. Lawrence is a better prospect than any of them. Of course you want a better QB than other teams building around a new QB.
Im a huge fan of Jones but i pick Lawrence any day
Danny Dimes : 9/20/2020 8:38 pm : link
He threw 8 passes yesterday, 3 for touchdowns...
I'm nor arguing whether Jones is better than Lawrence
BestFeature : 9/20/2020 8:42 pm : link
But rather supposedly a generational LT and Jones is better than Lawrence. And we'd get more in a trade back than we would trading Jones.
you take lawrence and trade jones
GiantsFan84 : 9/20/2020 8:47 pm : link
it's very simple. lawrence will give the giants 2 more years of a rookie QB contract than jones and is the better player. it's an easy decision
If the Giants pick #1
M.S. : 9/20/2020 8:50 pm : link

Which is quite conceivable, say good bye to Daniel Jones and say hello to Trevor Lawrence.

it's certainly a fair question. some rather pedestrian QBs have won Super Bowls. But in the last 20 years I would only count Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson, Joe Flacco and Nick Foles as pedestrian. That's 20%. The other 80% or all active (except the Mannings) and are likely future HoFers.

just to elaborate, I mean pedestrian QBs have won because the rest of the team was very strong, which is the proposal on the table.
They have to take Lawrence and trade Jones
BigBlueBuff : 9/20/2020 9:14 pm : link
There is just no way you pass on a QB like Trevor Lawrence. No way.
If they are picking first
Mike from Ohio : 9/20/2020 9:18 pm : link
there is almost no chance Jones had a good year. And if he had a bad year you draft Lawrence.

Jones has talent, but he is far from a sure fire franchise QB.
No brainer and a blessing
Optimus-NY : 9/20/2020 10:26 pm : link
Trade Jones and pick TL. The Giants have a fine OLT now in their rookie. I wish Barkley was healthy, because I'd trade him too for a total reboot.

.. but you have to be realistic about what you'd get bacl for Jones. Maybe a third rounder.
You take Lawrence

Who will be a stud for yrs. he reminds me of a bigger and more mobile Peyton Manning.
Take Lawrence
Breeze_94 : 9/20/2020 11:42 pm : link
And trade Jones. They'd actually fetch a pretty nice return for DJ, especially for one of the teams with an older QB that will be picking too late to get a good prospect in the draft (think Saints, Steelers, Colts, Patriots, Bucs)

In reality, Giants probably don't end up with the first overall pick...right?

Lawrence is a once in two decades prospect at QB. You don't even think of doing anything besides taking him if you have the 1st pick. Passing on him for any reason would be a fireable offense

No matter who the Giants GM is

You will not see Lawrence drafted if we have the opportunity. LOL..It won't happen and it shouldn't. But it will be a great position to trade back for a boatload of picks

The Williams trade should have been a fireable offence. I think you'll be surprised what DG can survive...because when/if he stays...he's not drafting Lawrence. He tagged an average player to save his ass...no way he's embarrassing himself drafting 2 top 10 QBs.

Sadly, I completely agree with this. Even more sad...DG probably won't be able to figure out how to trade down. He'll use the #1 pick on "his guy."
You never trade back for a specific player.
BlueLou'sBack : 9/21/2020 4:23 am : link
What if you trade back from 1 to 3 and Sewell gets picked 2nd? Because he damn well might be the 2nd pick it ff the board!

So it's an assinine suggestion. When trading back you have a few players in mind as the likely target.
If ff should read
BlueLou'sBack : 9/21/2020 4:24 am : link
"off".
This team could get a very high pick
jerseyjokes : 9/21/2020 8:22 am : link
But does anyone legit think they’ll have a worse record than the other team in the meadowlands? Judge will have this team fighting until the end. The Jets? Wow I swear they’ve given up already.

I probably don't see Gettleman as GM next season, but if he is then he will finally agree to a trade down for extra picks.

Why? Mostly because everything else he has tried has failed so this must be correct.
I've said it before, if the Giants have the worst record
Section331 : 9/21/2020 9:21 am : link
in the NFL with Jones being healthy, we should be looking for a new QB. In that case, you take Lawrence, no question.

That said, this team is better than a number of teams, including the one that plays in the same stadium.
This is moot
Bill L : 9/21/2020 9:23 am : link
we are not picking in the top 5, much less #1.
If NYG is picking #1 overall
JonC : 9/21/2020 9:26 am : link
DG will be gone and DJ will be under an intense microscope whether or not he's the guy.
I'm fully on board with Jones
UConn4523 : 9/21/2020 9:27 am : link
but you can't pass up on Lawrence. Look at what Kyler Murray is doing in Arizona. Having a top tier QB matters - it makes any rebuild happen much quicker.

I think we can be a good team under Jones but we need a lot of other pieces to fall in place as well - more wiggle room and room for error with a top tier QB.
Thank God the Giants won't have to make
Dnew15 : 9/21/2020 9:40 am : link
this decision...

Have you seen the Jets play this year?

They WILL have to make this decision. Darnold vs Lawrence

Good luck with all that.
.
Gruber : 9/21/2020 9:45 am : link
If either the Giants or the Jets end the season with the #1 draft pick, then it pretty much follows their quarterback hasn't had a great season. To me, it's a no brainer: you take Lawrence, just as the Bengals took Joe Burrow. Andy Dalton was not a bad QB, he wasn't the reason why they stunk, but you can't pass up the opportunity, plus you are getting such a talent for low money for whatever it is, five years.
From their off season behaviour, I really thought the Jaguars were setting themselves up to tank, but now I'm not so sure and maybe the Panthers are doing that.
Either way, I doubt we'll be picking first next year and I'm pretty certain that whoever has the #1 pick will choose Lawrence and not trade down.
Oh, and Adam Gase is almost certainly toast.

We are going to win games which you would not expect. And, I would not be surprised if most of our wins are inter-divisional. I think we only lose 2 after the bye and people are talking about us as a easy playoff participant in 2021. I think that this team grows big time.
I don't see 5 wins
JonC : 9/21/2020 10:05 am : link
on the schedule now.
I think that we win
Bill L : 9/21/2020 10:08 am : link
next week.
I honestly hope they don't go Offense again
Dinger : 9/21/2020 10:22 am : link
the defense is bereft of talent. They need an edge rusher, a lock down corner, an upgrade at safety and Linebacker. I hate that its week two and we are talking about this again....
I think it's very realistic that we'll be in the mix for #1
Giants in 07 : 9/21/2020 10:48 am : link
The Jets play in the AFC which is by far the lesser of the two conferences

Just looking at their schedule:

Jeff Driskel and the Broncos in two weeks
They play Miami back to back
I can see them beating the Browns, Chargers and Raiders too

The AFC is horrible

I don't see 3 wins on the Giants schedule and I'm an eternal optimist

So Jones isn't a top tier QB?

A lot of posters on this board spent the summer complaining as to why the rest of the football world gives Murray so much love versus DJ after their rookie years.
