His shtick about "versatility" and "multiplicity" might be fine in some sort of abject theoretical sense, but I think this OL, with 3 new starters from last year's quintet, needed to be playing alongside each other as one unit, rather than having guys flip flopped left/right and rotated through many positions during the very limited preseason practices this year, as they reportedly were.
The OL teamwork execution today looked a bit better than last week vs Pitt.
Let's also remember in 2007 the team was blown out of the 1st two games and on its way to another loss when Mitchell made a game saving tackle on the 3 yard line. This team has nowhere near that talent, but the point is even a team that talented team needed 3 games to play together, know the system and execute.

go even further look how bad people thought the 2011 team was..
Not just this thread...
Most of us went into the season knowing that the OL could be ugly at times. There we’re no offseason practices prior to training camp.
Not only do the Giants have three new starters but they also have a center who is learning on the job and has never played the position before.
The line will still struggle moving forward but hopefully we will see them improve each week as Thomas and Gates gain more experience and the unit begins to gel.

Don't blame Joe Judge

Right Jay. Plus new staff, new schemes. Also a 2nd year QB learning another new offense. I refuse to make any real judgements until at least halfway through this season. And I thought the OL played pretty well in the second half yesterday.
The good news in Andrew Thomas continues to hold his own at LT. Many were bracing for him to really struggle from the get go and that hasn't been the case.
I'm not prepared to 'blame' Judge for anything at this point. The team faced a pretty awful set of circumstances after the first quarter of the game yesterday, and fought like hell in spite of it and gave themselves a chance to win the game.
I won't claim a moral victory or go so far as to say it's a surefire sign of heading in the right direction, but I came away from that game rather encouraged, relative to the feeling I've had about the majority of NYG's losses over the last 4-5 years.
As for the OL, the same 5 guys pretty much occupied the same positions all through camp. I can only recall one practice where part of the story was giving Thomas some reps at RT
I do wonder with Gates being so new to playing center, there might be challenges with line calls. But that would be mostly related to inexperience + lack of overall practice time more than swapping positions too much
Really?
I mean..........Really?
and I think that is mostly due to the Bears out of shape Dline that was huffing and puffing the whole second half. The Bears were also playing softer as they held a lead.
