Ian Rapoport @RapSheet · 32m With the likely season-ending injury to Saquon Barkley, the #Giants are bringing in reinforcements. Source says they plan to visit with and workout FA RB Devonta Freeman. The former #Falcons star spent the weekend with the #Eagles and should be with NYG today. |
I think Gallman does not play on special teams.
What we do know is he's still a FA and he likely won't get a better opportunity to showcase his skills than by getting starter carries, which he'd get here.

Hope the coaches correct the mistake and dress three at all times in the future.

It surprised me as well, to only have two back there
in uniform. Penny plays about two plays a game too.

I saw #22 on STs week 1. Maybe THAT is the answer to the puzzle; he got his chance on ST and didn't do well - not a good thing if JJ is your coach.
Wayne is not a fumble machine. He was an important part of Clemson's championship teams, an all around back who set rushing records for the school and led ALL COLLEGE BACKS (including Saquon) in yards after contact.
Would love to see him get one more chance.
That is news to me. I dont know what he is now, but before the injury he was extremely elusive with that Maurice Jones Drew type of power. Not a power back.
Lol no more Scott’s! Anarchy.
Don't know how to phrase this, but for those saying lets just see what Gallman has, Freeman doesn't help long term, I couldn't disagree with you more.
The importance in this season is growing chemistry in the offense and the offensive line. Even if Freeman is not part of the answer moving forward, if he extends drives with 1 or two more first downs a game than Gallman then that's worth exponentially more to the teams future than the emergence of Gallman as an acceptable backup. Backup running backs are a dime a dozen. I'm not saying to sign him just for the sake of signing him, but if he shows in a tryout that he provides something more than Gallman does, then by all means bring him in. A certain level of competency is needed in the running game in order for the team to grow as a whole, and I don't know if Freeman still has anything left in the tank, but if he does I wouldn't ignore him just to "see" what Gallman can do. He's just not that valuable in the long run.
That’s a surprising take. He averaged 3.6 YPC, 6.9 YPR, and 4.4 YPT last year. All signs of a deteriorating player nearing the end of his career. What did you see last year that popped out to you?

I'm not Sy, but I do think stats need to be taken in context. Atl was pretty bad last year, this contributed to his stats. As we have seen if the OL is not blocking RB's can't run. He still did get over 1k in yards from scrimmage.
too much money? he is home sitting on his couch lol.. he doesnt really have any leverage to get a ton of moneey...
He is a violent power back that's gets you the tough yards.
I understand the decision to sit Gallman, he is not a ST player and lewis is.
Gallman will start against the Niners and get his shot and hopefully he shines I have always been a fan.
Freeman is likely not coming here and leading this team anywhere beyond where it would have gone anyway but he can probably come here and get a few first downs and pick up some blitzes we may not have otherwise. Considering the difference in the outcome yesterday was 1 play, why not try?

Let me preface this by saying no one will look good the way our line is playing right now. But in Freeman’s defense, the Falcons line was pretty bad last year. Look at Gurley right now, 23 rushes for 65 yards yesterday. If our line starts to improve a bit Freeman would be our best back by a wide margin. Lewis is a rotational guy and Gallman is nothing special.
The name is attractive I guess since he's a former Pro Bowler, but 2016 seems like a long time ago.
What's the point in keeping him - if you don't think he can do this job...
*** and a 2022 4th rounder just to sweeten the deal

I think the Giants really need to start considering if they want to bank money on these type of guys this year or next year.
If the cap drops to 175M, every dollar rolled over becomes more important.

kicking around and filling roles even past their prime. There is no downside and most of those players exceeded expectations at their new teams and helped contribute (some even into the playoffs).

Most of those guys are at or near the minimum. A minimum deal has 0 impact on cap so it entirely depends on whatever guarantees come in slightly above that. Ideally any bonus money being signed at this stage would be tied directly to performance incentives.
Not sure it matters though.
And while we need somebody to fill in the open RB spot, the fact that Freeman is even available going into Week 3 has to tell you something about his perceived worth around the league.
This signing would say nothing about Gallman unless Freeman passed him on the depth chart...and if that happened, we should be happy about the signing.
Or maybe he'll rush for about 700 yards and get everyone talking about having "leverage" over Barkley next year!

This is so asinine and completely exposes the clueless posters. You realize that this team is trying to win games, right? No, of course you don’t. You thinks it’s perfectly fine to just say “for what? We suck anyways so screw it!”.
That’s not how it works and I’m sure Judge would like to get this team winning some damn games too.

It also helps your young QB, you just cant bring up a practice squad rb and say here Jones go play..
Having a vet back behind Jones will help with his development, having 0 running game will make it near impoasible for him to develop
PP - Gallman has never shown the consistent power production that Freeman has shown in the past - and comparing their bodies -- Freeman is a much stockier more powerfully stacked body type
I really doubt they sign him at all. Mort was saying today that Freeman has had several offers but is looking for a big pay day, that’s why he’s still available. He wants starter money and is willing to wait it out.
