RB Freeman visiting NYG today

He missed almost all of 2018 and was rather unimpressive in 2019.

He is a violent power back that's gets you the tough yards.
I understand the decision to sit Gallman, he is not a ST player and lewis is.
Gallman will start against the Niners and get his shot and hopefully he shines I have always been a fan.

you'd think being guaranteed the bulk of the carries would be enticing. Then again, our OL is hot garbage, maybe he won't.

kicking around and filling roles even past their prime. There is no downside and most of those players exceeded expectations at their new teams and helped contribute (some even into the playoffs).

Freeman is likely not coming here and leading this team anywhere beyond where it would have gone anyway but he can probably come here and get a few first downs and pick up some blitzes we may not have otherwise. Considering the difference in the outcome yesterday was 1 play, why not try?

Let me preface this by saying no one will look good the way our line is playing right now. But in Freeman’s defense, the Falcons line was pretty bad last year. Look at Gurley right now, 23 rushes for 65 yards yesterday. If our line starts to improve a bit Freeman would be our best back by a wide margin. Heard on podcast this morning that Freeman already turned down a nice offer - didnt say who or how much. Plus, Giants dont have much available to spend since they signed Logan. I doubt Freeman wants a 1 year show me deal. If the Giants are rebuilding, and I think they are, why tie up major bucks on a back like Freeman given all the other needs. And, whatever we think is going to happen to Barkley, they will have to make a decision on paying him going forward pretty soon.

The name is attractive I guess since he's a former Pro Bowler, but 2016 seems like a long time ago.

What's the point in keeping him - if you don't think he can do this job...

I don't we'd see much difference win/loss wise with Freeman over Gallman anyway, and we'd just pay more

He played behind a terrible Falcons OL last year and he was playing on a relatively new contract paying him well. I wouldn’t be totally sold on the idea that he is ‘cooked’.

but no team right now can offer him this much playing time, which plays into a potential contract for him next year. If he sits all year, the offers aren't going to get any better. He may want to bet on himself and, if that's the case, there could be a deal to be had.

I think the Giants really need to start considering if they want to bank money on these type of guys this year or next year.

If the cap drops to 175M, every dollar rolled over becomes more important.

we need another everyday back, even if Gallman gets most of the snaps

Most of those guys are at or near the minimum. A minimum deal has 0 impact on cap so it entirely depends on whatever guarantees come in slightly above that. Ideally any bonus money being signed at this stage would be tied directly to performance incentives.

had 59 catches last year, first season back from the groin surgery/injury that kept him out all of 2018. I'm not saying he's still really good but he's probably solid enough to make a difference for us. Bring him in.

once you all see Freeman run in his first game, particularly behind our Oline, that you will hate him.

We might be, but he's a name, which is why he's getting the attention right now. He's probably not the only guy we're working out.

And while we need somebody to fill in the open RB spot, the fact that Freeman is even available going into Week 3 has to tell you something about his perceived worth around the league.

Your #1 RB is injured and the other RBs move up the depth chart. You sign another RB. If they are signed, they compete, they might move up the depth chart or might not.

This signing would say nothing about Gallman unless Freeman passed him on the depth chart...and if that happened, we should be happy about the signing.

They lost their primary RB for the season. That leaves them with 2. They need another RB. If Freeman is deemed the best available, then sign him. After that, it is up to the coaches to determine the new depth chart.

Usually, the giants try out 2/3 players and pick the best one. And I wouldn't be surprised if they put in waiver claims today that would be awarded tomorrow that if they liked that claim better then what they saw in the try-out they went that direction.

There is no reason to bring a vet. To do what. Possibly win 4 games so the fans can be happy for a few games. You never know what you can find. It happens a lot.

It also helps your young QB, you just cant bring up a practice squad rb and say here Jones go play..

Having a vet back behind Jones will help with his development, having 0 running game will make it near impoasible for him to develop

I really doubt they sign him at all. Mort was saying today that Freeman has had several offers but is looking for a big pay day, that’s why he’s still available. He wants starter money and is willing to wait it out.
