Not the greatest day for FF enthusiasts yesterday. I was slamming shit the moment Barkley hit the turf.
However, time to move forward. How are the results?
I've safely secured 2 wins out of 4 leagues, and in another I need 6 points from Jared Cook tonight to win, so it's close. The 4th league I'm just not even competitive.
Some things I learned this week about my teams:
Never bench D.K. Metcalf again. I played Cooper Kupp in front of Metcalf in one league, who I feared might get shut down by Stephon Gilmore, the league's reigning defensive player of the year. Gilmore indeed covered Metcalf all night last night, but Metcalf was up to the task, with 4 catches on 6 targets, 92 yards, and a score. D.K. is just too good to bench, and he's in an offense right now that might be the best in the NFL with Russ really slinging it. Just to finish the thought, in another league I benched him in favor of A.J. Green AND Parris Campbell. Oof. Yeah, that matchup, as you might guess, I'm getting curb-stomped in.
Time to downgrade Cooper Kupp. Yes, he's still going to be fantasy relevant, and can be a useful starter. But at this point I have him as a low end WR2 or a useful flex rather than the low end #1 or high end #2 that he was thought of in the recent past. And the reason is the emergence of Tyler Higbee as one of Goff's most trusted targets.
In 2019, Tyler Higbee exploded onto the fantasy landscape and as a huge contributor to the Rams' offense in week 12. From week 12 to week 16, a span of 5 games, Higbee had 43 receptions on 56 targets for 522 yards and 2 TDs, a pretty significant target for Jared Goff and tremendous fantasy and real-life production.
Prior to week 12, Cooper Kupp averaged 9.45 targets, 6.09 receptions, and 80 yards per game, and that includes a week 10 outlier where the Steelers' secondary shut him out.
From week 12 to week 16, coinciding with Higbee's emergence, Kupp averaged 6 targets and 5.4 catches and 56.2 yards per game.
This year, after 2 games, while Higbee has continued to be a trusted target for Goff, although the target numbers are down from the end of last year, Kupp has averaged 4.5 catches on 6.5 targets for 60.5 yards per game. Basically, this is very similar to what we saw from him at the end of last season.
I think this is a trend, and I have no doubt Kupp is going to have big games down the road, and I should mention Kupp scored a TD per game down that Higbee stretch in 2019, but I am concerned that the high volume targets to Kupp that we enjoyed in years past will not be a regular happening going forward.
And finally, watching Leonard Fournette in Tampa, I think it's going to be hard for Arians not to give him more carries after a 100 yard day with two scores on 12 touches. Still think RoJo is rosterable in 12 team leagues or deeper, but I don't know how you can play him now. If you need help at RB, you might try to acquire Fournette while his value is still perhaps a little lower, because I think soon he'll have a stranglehold on the touches in that backfield.
I have so many WR options, I started Fuller over Terry McLaurin, Tyler Boyd, Keenan Allen, Chase Claypool (ok, I wasn't seriously considering starting Claypool, but the point remains he got 21 points in my league).
Now, I'm down 1 and I have Josh Jacobs going vs my opponents Tra'Quon Smith.
It shouldn't even be close.

Fuller, from what I was told, has a hamstring injury, per usual.
I've put in early waiver claims for both D.Lewis and W.Gallman along with D.Freeman in all of my leagues. It'll be crazy to see how much D.Freeman will cost if he does sign with the Giants.
14 team league so pickings are slim on waivers, Golden Tate and Dion Lewis are probably the first 2 guys I'll go for.
Claypool is interesting too - he's making big plays every game so it seems like it's only a matter of time until he's got a much bigger role.
I benched Fuller, but didn't expect a 0.
Are we trusting Robbie Anderson?
How about James Robinson?

I have Wilson in two leagues, and he's been amazing. I also had started J.Robinson yesterday. I'm a believer...mainly because I have no other RB2...lol

What a start to the season! I was down a lot when I turned off football following the Giants game. Woke up this morning and saw that Russ and Lockett pulled me back ahead. Now I am up a bit with Josh Jacobs vs E. Sanders. Should be a W.

He seems to be a pretty good cut and go north-south guy. Has some pretty nice runs. And that offense doesn't seem to be as bad as I imagined.

You should have a safe win. Anderson is a fine WR3. I own Janes Robinson, glad I snagged him after losing Mack. But I think I need to trade him for an upgrade at QB and WR.
My team:
QB:Jones/Stafford (think I’m going to drop Jones)
RB: Jones, Taylor, SAnders, Robinson
WR: Jones, Parker, Green, Slayton, Reagor
TE: Fant and Gesicki
PPR. I’ve somehow managed to lose the past two weeks by starting players that laid eggs, meanwhile players blow up on my bench. So frustrating.
Minshew continues to make their passing game viable, so I think that helps Robinson. And you can't complain about the volume he's getting although at one point, I thought they were moving away from him.
I also have J.Kelley, who I may start in Week 3 as a FLEX.
No idea if they are going to use Gallman as the workhorse and Lewis as 3rd down, or does Lewis become the do it all, then what if they sign Freeman?
I think this is a wait and see, pick up once the waiver period is over and see who is left.
I'd like to get an additional rb for flex and bye weeks, so its not an immediate need. But i need to upgrade from Jones.
My current roster has
QB Rodgers, Newton
RB J Taylor, Edwards-Helaire, R Jones III
WR D Hopkins, M Evans, C Kupp, D Chark, D Jackson, S Miller
TE Engram
Def Tampa
K Boswell
Taylor
I won’t my other 2 leagues.

Entirely predictable considering the hits he took in Week 1. Fuller is soft as butter.
If both guys were available and you needed one start from them, who would you guys pick up? Fournette at Denver or Robinson vs the Dolphins?
What is the extent of Cam Akers injury? Debating if it is worth losing my spot in the waiver priority order (currently 4/12) to get Henderson or wait and see who goes unclaimed. Mike Davis (replacing CMac) is also available. Ditto Dion Lewis, Myles Gaskin, and Frank Gore. I also can pick up K.J. Hamler who might be in line for more touches with Courtland Sutton out for the year but that would mean dropping either Scotty Miller (was Week 1 or Week 2 the fluke) or Curtis Samuel (might be in line for more touches with CMac out but who knows). If I do start putting claims in it also becomes what order do I do it.

I still think Robinson is a better pick up for now, especially based on the matchup. Fournette may end up being a better pick later, but right now, Fournette still has Jones to share touches with while Robinson has no one but Thompson to get some 3rd down passes.

I like J-Rob on the short week. Denver shut down Henry and, outside of one long carry, Conner was barely averaging 3 YPC (15 for 47 if you don't count 59 yard scamper).
In my other league, I'm up 9 and have Jacobs & Saints D going against Kamara.
Not super confident but should be able to pull it out tonight
