Kick to the nuts too... the NFC East sucks (again)

Eric from BBI : Admin : 9/21/2020 4:44 pm
We're not just bad, but the division once again isn't good.
Just means anything can happen

Have faith, i know i know, Giants have been shit for years, but what is thr point of thinking negatively?
Par for the course.

All 4 of our Superbowl wins have come when the NFC East was brutally strong.

That was the main reason I went into the season with some optimism. I saw a weak division (it's playing out worse than I imagined). I also had higher hopes for the OL (there is still time for them to round into shape). But, Barkley gives a shot in any game where we are within striking distance. To a lesser degree, so does Jones with his deep balls.

Instead, as bad as the division is, we are at the bottom of it.

I'd say it was decent other than Washington Team Football. Went down to the last game with Dallas and the Eagles were .500 ; though technically you have a point, the division overall had a losing record.

I think all things considered line played well in the 2nd half, bears were basically pinning their ears back..

We are going to see what Jones is made of, can he carry the team, he is obviously not eli yet, but eli did it in 11 with no running game
Sucks the cowboys saved it

I can't believe they recovered an onside kick

Falcons blew it more than anything the Cowboys did.

Either way they will get smoked against the 49ers when healthy, Rams beat them already, Seahawks will and the Cardinals are ascending. Saints are better. Falcons are average and had them dead to rights. Packers are better.

Same year for them as any other.

When the NFC East is weak and the Giants are bad and you actually think that there is one possibility they could do anything with this opportunity...

I don't know what to say except, you need to realign your thinking.
Stat I read on the Eagles....
BillKo : 9/21/2020 5:23 pm : link
....7-15 in their last 30 games if you take away games versus the G-Men and Washington Football Team.

They appear to be coming undone via the Wentz contract, and it will only get worse..........
The Eagles remind me of the Giants in 2012/13..

QB play eroding; OL aging; lack of offensive weapons. They might be in for a rough patch.

took a beating within just a few minutes yesterday.

First we lost to the Bears right at the end, BOOM. Then Dan Quinn took a cannonball and chucked it right at my sack. Direct hit!
That was one of the coolest onsides I have ever seen.
robbieballs2003 : 9/21/2020 5:44 pm : link
Logic says that the ball should have spun toward the sideline and not the end zone but that was definitely cool to see. And I am just talking about the actual kick.

On the flip side I hate stupidity. As a receiving team you do not have to wait for it to go 10 yards. As that ball was inching toward the line a Falcon should have jumped on it.

The Eagles quite literally might not be able to get under the cap next year. I’m looking at their options, and I don’t see how they can shed enough to be under ~175M.

Not sure why logic would dictate that would go out of bounds. They do that in soccer all the time.

I'm seeing people questioning the Falcons here. These guys get HAMMERED all the time about not touching the ball in real time. This is the first time anyone's ever attempted it like that. Ball looked like it was gonna die short until it started to spin. Notice how they tried to jump on it right at the 10. We are talking about a split second here alling that "stupidity" is way overboard.

Interestly enough you are going to see teams repeat this, but its way more difficult than it looks. Ironically, you are going to see guys diving on it early, so now we will have two teams diving head first low into eachother making it more dangerous than before! Asking for someone to get paralyzed.

it goes to preparedness.

The receiving team absolutely has to be taught what to do for those kicks, just like on a pooch kick, they have to be taught what to do.

Not only didn't the Falcons attack the ball, they actually backed up and waited. That's a mistake of a pretty significant proportion.

They attacked it when it went ten yards. Exactly what they are taught to do. No team in the the league is prepared to handle a kick of this nature. John Fassel is the best special team coach in game and didn’t come across as such a creep ball he’d be a head coach. Sometimes you just gotta tip your hat.

No. No. No. They are not taught to attack it at ten yards. That's the kicking team. The receiving team should be taught to touch the ball at the earliest moment they can. The ball has to go 10 yards for the kicking team to recover it. The receiving team has no such restriction. It was not knowing the rules, plain and simply

Absolutely correct FMIC.

The receiving team wants to come up and get the ball whenever they can. Waiting for it just gives the kicking team more of chance of recovery.

The spinning of the ball for some reason caused the Falcons to back off I suppose.....maybe feeling they weren't going to be handle it and thus give the Cowboys a better chance at recovery, which ended up happening anyway.

Good play by the Cowboys kicker....put a different spin on things you could say lol

Well you would be revolutionary because that is not the way its taught anywhere. Attacking the ball in convential circumstances is considered risking fumbling and getting hit.
Really..
FatMan in Charlotte : 9/21/2020 9:28 pm : link
because even Dan Quinn disagree with you. If the ball isn't popped up they are taught to go after the ball. almost all NFL teams use this same instruction:

Quote:
Following the game, head coach Dan Quinn used a lot of words to explain to the media that his players definitely knew the rule despite visibly appearing to have no idea.

“I think they definitely know. The front three are usually blocking as you’re going in, the high bouncers go to the second side, so the front line, generally on an onside kick, they’re looking to get a block first. Then the high hop goes to the next player. When that instance happens and it’s not one that is a high hopper, then you just transfer in and go to your ball, but you’re looking at your assignment first of who you have to go block. Certainly the ball, and then your assignment. They definitely know the rule.”

Right, but Dan Quinn is conveniently leaving out they specifically tell them don't touch the ball if it's not going to go ten yards. And it sure as all didn't, but because of the spin they hit put in the ball it did. Are you telling me these guys were supposed to know in real time the ball was gonna spin like that? It was mostly moving straight until the speed died down and began to curve. Dan Quinn is in save his ass mode right now, he's going to do anything to portray himself in a positive light. I can't believe he hasn't been canned already.
