I mentioned this in Sy's review but it got swallowed up.
With Barkley out for the rest of the year we have obviously lost one of the few dynamic players we have.
Leading up to the draft, Mike Mayock repeatedly said that Peppers' best NFL position was running back. He has shown that he still has great open field vision and juice with his punt return abilities.
I am usually skeptical when it comes to position changes - they just dont seem to work at the NFL level. However, this wouldnt be a position change per se. 5-6 touches/game - getting him the ball in space.
Also, it seems that running back is one of the easier positions to get acclimated to. Aaron Hernandez, Taysom Hill, Ty Montgomery, Cordarelle Patterson among others have had success in the backfield.
thoughts?
Apples to oranges. Teams stacked the box to stop Barkley. I doubt they're playing an 8 man front with Peppers in.
You could use your theory with any running back in the league. So I guess putting ANY running back in is dumb...? Yeah, lets just go 5 wide every play.
Also, Im not talking about lining him up in the I formation, running dive plays.
Middle screens, draw plays, jet sweeps, angle routes, wildcat, Run/Pass option with DJ etc.
This point is well taken. As poorly as Peppers has played on defense, do we even know who his replacement would be? Ebner? Chandler?
Two games in, and we're talking about converting a former LB, and making him a former S, into RB. No prep for it in camp, no preseason... We're just gonna make him an RB. Such a phenomenal athlete... If he can't make it at LB, and can't make it at S, and doesn't have instincts, and has poor lateral movement, and takes bad angles... Hey, maybe he's just not a very good football player.
And I posted this a few days ago -- Peppers is on record as saying he does NOT WANT to play RB.
he was mediocre to bad last year in an injury-shortened season and has looked totally lost through two games in 2020. i suspect the giants will cut bait after his rookie deal is up and look to draft someone with instincts for the position.

I don’t think management thinks of him as a stop-gap at safety. DG had him in a yellow jacket when the trade was made.
