The whole Skip Bayless/Stephen A. Smith style of daily hot take after hot take “analysis” has hit another level in the last couple of years. So many others have realized that’s the way to get retweets and attention, it’s just a massive hot take industry at this point.
Also, almost everybody in the media seemingly “wants” Mahomes to become the GOAT. He’s certainly an amazing talent but the way the media is really pushing him and just treating it as an inevitability that Mahomes gets there is a little too much.
In my view, it is only a prediction, and an attention getting one at that. There could be several different reasons for the chargers playing the chiefs tough (chargers may matchup well, off day by the chiefs, mixed with a good game by the chargers, and as always a mixture of elements is likely)
However, I do agree about not only the who shows decide to put on their shows, but also the content has shifted from educational to "entertainment for all" so to speak.
with a rookie QB making his first start. They're the defending SB champs, and are a good bet to repeat, but going undefeated is an entirely different animal.
They have what is probably the most complete offense in the league, but the defense remains exploitable. Their K is a difference maker though. He made 3 kicks in a row in OT, at 53, 58, and 58 yards. Holy shit!
...you'd have one show a week dedicated to the NFL.
Now it's daily.
Hence you have statements like this.
This and Osi's comments are really what the crux of my point boils down to. The coverage is so watered down that you have useless talking heads just making asinine hot takes and they have a platform for it. It often takes a front seat instead of reporting or delving into analysis.
There is tons of technical analysis out there as well
who broke his arm after he hit a median and blamed it on a pizza pie? I mean at 2:35AM on a Monday during the season
and you are craving that deliciousness of Detroit pizza, you gotta do what you gotta do.
Quote:
“It was actually a whole pizza,” Shaw told ESPN. “He had purchased two whole pizzas, and one was sitting on top of the other one, and I guess when he was driving one of them was slipping off, and he was reaching over to push it back onto the seat and overcorrected and hit the median wall.”
fact that Skip Bayless gets paid to opine on sports is an abomination
Make no mistake about it, the reason guys like Skip Bayless and Screamin A get paid what they do is because their haters always tune in to complain about their hot takes. If either one of them was paid merely on their sports knowledge/insight, they would have been out of a job a long time ago.
On network shows. There is one show called turning point that is close but never went into the nut and bolts that a guy like Brian Baldinger puts out regularly these days.
The fact is the depth and breadth of quality analysis is better today than it ever has been, you just have to know where to find it. And to wade through a lot of garbage.
And as much as fantasy football is blamed for the decline of football, it’s doubtful information like snap and formation counts would be available today to the public without it.
Berman (before his shtick got out of hand) and Jackson provided decent commentary/analysis
Absolutely, Berman did well to entertain, while Jackson gave good insight as a former player.
Shows don't always need to present themselves in a strict X's & O's way either. Even the shows that focused on the mic'd up players had it's educational value as well as entertainment .
The only football talk I listen to is Sirius NFL. All most all of them are level headed thinkers and have facts not just former players or shock jocks. The only one I have a hard time listening to is Solly Wilcox he just comes across to me as a know it all.
RE: I can not remember the last time I tuned in ESPN or NFL network

I think they are a lock for 13 wins (barring a Mahomes injury) but getting those last 3 is going to take an incredible amount of luck revolving primarily around injuries.
Burleson gets to say I dolt you so if he's right and if not, no harm no foul. Really no downside in these predictions, nothing is on the line for him.
They could easily lose this week to the Ravens. They are a good team but some teams that look bad now will surge at the end and they will lose more than one game.
KC is the SB champ. On paper they have the best team in the league. On paper, they look like they should win every game.
Of course we know that, even the best teams lay eggs at times. It's why they play the games. And it's very hard to maintain undefeated level of excellence over the course of an entire season. So I agree it is highly unlikely.
That said, can anybody pinpoint a game that they will lose? Willing to bet your house on it?
Point is, it is possible for them to go undefeated. If they do... Is Burleson still a chucklehead?
For somebody who claims they do not speak in absolutes, it seems you speak in absolute judgements of about people an awful lot.
Just curious, what makes you think you are able to pass the absolute judgement of people that you do. Perhaps you should consider passing some absolute judgement on yourself.
I just get tired of seeing your turds all over the board all the time.
That said, if somebody posts an opinion, but doesn't very clearly state that it is their opinion, you will be right there to jump all over them. Even when the opinion has information to back it up, you even give the information the light of day. You called Burleson a chucklehead, you didn't say "I THINK his prediction is ridculous" or even "I THINK he is a chucklehead and the networks shouldn't be giving him a forum"... No... You said "Why the hell do chuckleheads like this". There is no room in that statement for any conclusion other than Burleson is absolutely a chucklehead. You passed absolute judgement there. You even emphasized it with a swear. The way that is written, it is an absolute judgement. And, I really don't care if you choose to qualify it now, it's too late.
Further, while I think Burleson's prediction has long odds against it's not even as outrageous an opinion as the possibility of this Giants team winning 9 or 10 games this year, which I have seen several posters suggest. Yet, because it's a positive take on the Giants, you aren't there calling those folks chuckleheads, because for some reason it jives with whatever your agenda is.
Lastly, your response to me was rather pedestrian for you, quite banal. For somebody who prides himself on his ability to skewer people with a few taps of the keyboard, I am quite disappointed. I was expecting something much more worthy of you. If they gave out Pulitzers for bullying and shitting on people, you would have so many you couldn't fit them in your home. You must be very proud of your efforts here of the past 25 years or so... This one, unfortunately, wasn't one of your best.
Well, enjoy writing your response to me here, I hope it's one of your Pulitzer versions... However, you will just have to guess at my take on it, since I won't be responding.

Overall the prediction doesn't bother me.

Plenty of content for all different levels of fans.

I admit to being a bit out of touch. Are these technical shows shown on the big networks?
and you are craving that deliciousness of Detroit pizza, you gotta do what you gotta do.
Munchies can be a bitch - ( New Window )
Is it fair to say that educational football shows have taken a backseat to the mainstream, entertainment type of shows?
That is how it seems, the big networks don't value the analysis aspect, which seems to be the point, at least to me.
Make no mistake about it, the reason guys like Skip Bayless and Screamin A get paid what they do is because their haters always tune in to complain about their hot takes. If either one of them was paid merely on their sports knowledge/insight, they would have been out of a job a long time ago.

A team going 19-0 would diminish the Giants beating the Pats in my view, so I hope not.
Yeah, the NFL channel on serious XM is fantastic.
Burleson gets to say I dolt you so if he's right and if not, no harm no foul. Really no downside in these predictions, nothing is on the line for him.
I don’t see it.
I don’t see it.
The typical nature is for good teams to lose to a less expected opponent. Happens every year without fail.
If they can barely beat the Chargers then there's just no way they're going 16-0. They lost last year to the Colts I think even with Mahomes playing.

Fuck.
Pointing out a ridiculous prediction isn't some sort of really deep-rooted analysis. It is pointing out a ridiculous prediction.
But I'm guessing you just want an argument here.
