If you have Saquan you MUST use him as the feature back; and opponents of course will game plan for Saquan as THE feature back.
Regardless of whether a feature back or RBs by committee is the best strategy, we don't really have a feature back in either Lewis or Freeman, so the discussion is moot.
(At Freeman's age or Lewis's size, neither can take the pounding of a feature back over 14 more games - and maybe more if we're lucky.)
IMO given the cards dealt, RB by Committee may be a silver lining.
- Burns emphasized each back has unique talents
- The coaching "brain trust" has lauded multiple offensive and defensive schemes week to week depending on opponent.
- 4 backs give them flexibily week to week and within a game. (And Heaven Forbid another RB injury)
- Don't sleep on Wayne Gallman. He could have a significant role in a backfield by committee. (Warning: Clemson fan here). Burns called him a "one cut runner". Wayne led all college backs (including Saquan) in yards after contact. He set the Clemson rushing record as a senior. Stats show the "fumbling problem" as a Giant is overblown.
