Hey all - sitting on a credit for a trip we were taking in April that never happened and I’m looking at early 2021 to possibly use it to escape winter. Is anyone else planning a trip or traveling? Am I crazy for even thinking about it?
this isn't the black death. Went to Ocean City for 4 days in May. Going to Charleston and Savannah for a week in October. Then heading to Cancun 12/26 thru 1/02.
Wear a mask, stay 6 ft away from anyone, and wash your hands. Life goes on. Enjoy it.
We have a hefty downpayment on a rental in Sarasota
Going to New England next month for 3 1/2 weeks. Once we get to Logan, we're quarantining at a friend's house on the Cape for 2 weeks. After that, visiting relatives in MA (Lowell), NH (Concord, Hanover), & ME (Kittery). Daughter will be in tow, but doing virtual anyways, which is a complete farce & disaster, but anyways...looking forward to it. We've been cooped up since March.
Just going to be smart. Masks. Hand sanitizer. Social distancing. And also, I think a lot of people-myself included-are at a point where we're only seeing people we trust are being safe & taking all precautions to remain healthy. I've said it before, but humans aren't meant to be in complete lockdown from one another month upon month. It's just not healthy mentally. Just be safe & smart.
Flew last week for the first time since March — Austin to JFK, then up to Woodstock for 3 weeks.
Laying low for the quarantine mandate, then will proceed safely. There’s nothing I want to do within 6 feet of anyone, and certainly nothing I can’t wear a mask doing. Lots of hiking, relaxing, cold beer, etc. Then will head down to the city and catch up with friends.
Supposed to be going to Paris, Belgium, Luxembourg, & Netherlands
Flew to Reno/Lake Tahoe in July and stayed on the lake for a week, and we fly to Denver and then drive to Steamboat Springs CO every 6 weeks as we are building a house in Steamboat.
No problem at the airport or on any of the flights or with rental cars or hotels. Airfare is super cheap and Southwest blocks all middle seats. All the restaurants are open in Colorado and there are tons of tourists...
Get out and live!
I've been traveling and flying pretty extensively since June
Some trips I've had no choice, I have to go, but aside from that I've been doing a fair amount of leisure travel too. Lots of flying as always, somewhere around 25-30 flights on several airlines.
I wear a mask, keep my distance, avoid crowds, follow local guidelines, spend a lot of time outside (especially for meals), and live my life as normally as I otherwise can. Can't do much else.
I have absolutely no qualms or concerns about getting on airplanes, staying in hotels, or being out and about in public.
My advice is to travel on short/er notice, rather than plan far in advance and build up excitement for a trip you might not be able to take, especially for international. It's certainly a good bet that you'll be able to take a 2021 (domestic) trip without restrictions, but it was pretty upsetting for me to have to cancel two trips over the past 8 months that I had been planning and looking forward to for a long time.
We ended up doing a Colorado trip during a week we had planned to be overseas, and put the vacation together about 2 weeks in advance. Turned out to be a great trip and there wasn't much anxiety over COVID disrupting things since it was a quick turn from planning to departure. It's also kind of exciting (at least for me) to do things on the fly, especially for family vacations, because usually I give myself a lot of lead time. That's definitely not the case for my business travel, though...
Didn't stay but we did a corporate outing there. Cool grounds, food was good. Lots of great hiking trails and places to walk. The lodge itself is really cool, a true throwback to the old days. Again, can't say anything about the rooms.
RE: We have a hefty downpayment on a rental in Sarasota
for the month of February.
If there are severe restrictions (restaurants, bars, beaches etc) we may as well stay inside here in Georgia.
Anyone with a crystal ball willing to guess what if any restrictions Florida will see early nest year?
I'd be shocked if they are serious restrictions/ lockdowns in Florida this winter. They aren't going to nuke their tourism. And judging by how they have treated it thus far, I would expect things to be pretty open come February.

I agree. Florida has been heavily into denial throughout the pandemic. Surprisingly so, given the susceptibility of a large chunk of the population.
...ALL in NY State. Social distancing - only interacted with family and the park attendant at reception, masked.
Was a HUGE year for Camper Sales - we took advantage and were able to sell ours for more than we owed, upgraded to a larger bunkhouse model with 40 gallon fresh water and waste tanks.
That excess capacity allows for longer *dry* camping trips - we will be visiting family in Southern Pa and New Jersey in the coming weeks with the new rig.
But a REAL vacation? We cancelled our beach house in July, trips to Jersey shore as well. Nothing has changed that mindset in my house.
It's still a pandemic, folks. Planes and Hotels are a really bad idea. The national case count is ON THE RISE again. We expected autumn, winter, flu season to get really ugly. The decrease in cases through summer never got to a level to eradicate the virus, we are now back to early August numbers.
The ONLY way out of this is to continue with masks and social distancing. Unless you've got a workaround, as I do with the camper, you're adding risk to yourselves and anyone else you could potentially spread it to.

Living here, I wouldn't agree with that take whatsoever.
5 days Hershey Park in July and 2 weeks at Jersey shore in August. Stayed in hotels. Everyone in our group (10 of us) are fine and had a great time. Masked and sanitized as needed. Planning Disney (Orlando) for March or April 2021.
last month right after the hurricane hit. Loved it so much we planned on going back Columbus Day Weekend but I guess they don't cancel school that Monday anymore so we are holding off until next Spring/Summer.
I'm not really crazy about flying yet, but I also don't really have the burning desire to travel now anyway with school starting, working being crazy, and life just being 100mph right now. Kind of a relief we aren't doing Cape Cod next month because I don't think we had the time for it anyway.
Flying this weekend for the first time since March
in late October. Planning on flying to Hartford to stay with family, then drive to Pittsfield, MA. Right now it's impossible to comply with Connecticut guidelines to travel from Alabama. What a cluster...
Do you rent out those beach houses you have in Washington state?
The boss - her - always gets the final say. Right now yes. She rented the place for cheap to college students who are just taking classes online anyway lol
They're just opening up and they have great safety features in place. The resort we're looking at even has built in medical insurance to cover any potential Covid related illnesses.
I'm definitely more on the lax side but, if you wear a mask and wash your hands, you should be ok
...we bought these back in April and they've come in handy multiple times. Extends driving and visiting range without having to use anyone elses bathroom, rest area's, restaurants, etc...
I even build a small shed in my yard so visitors could use it without having to worry about exposure.
Easy to use/dump/clean (no poop allowed!), it's actually loaded up in my truck for a drive to visit sister-in-law this weekend.
It's a good workaround, if you haven't considered it;

You're ok with people visiting your house but you make them piss in a porta potty?
And you forbid them from taking a shit in it?
I'd rather just piss in a gatorade or laundry detergent bottle like a normal person.

Yeah, I don't know about that one... Not sure I'd feel very welcome as a guest where the host relegates me to a piss-only outhouse!
but I won't be visiting anyone that's making me pee or shit in an out house. What's the point of having guests at that point - I'd never make someone do that.
We have guests over and we clean the guest bathroom before they arrive and clean again after they leave. If we all still get COVID after that then we are fucked.

It's still airborne. Aerosolized. Indoors = bad idea.
I wouldn't let anyone use an outhouse either. Pandemic is another story. Pandemic ends, they can use my john all they want.
Most modern US bathrooms have oversized vent fans, or reasonable window appetites if opened at least halfway or maybe less. Leave your bathroom fans running overtime, no airborne virion to worry about! Or more precisely, not enough of a viral titer to infect...
Observe the 6 foot rule, wash hands aplenty, and keep.your own hands away from your face unless immediately after a thorough soap and water washing...
If you're taking the "normal" proscribed precautions it seems unlikely to be transmitted.

Meet up for some brews? Haha.

Bummer of course but it could be a lot worse.
Right now they are letting residents of NJ in the country and the restaurants seem to be open
I wanted to go to an away Giants game this year. So who the hell knows? Maybe Dallas?
(Again)
No.

Canada will be open for travel I’m December!?
No.

This was my thinking actually

I was just in Sarasota this past weekend. Everything was great. Got out on the water, restaurants and bars were going, you shouldn't have a problem.
Wife and I are going on a snowmobile vacation in Yellowstone beginning of January
although it appears that Europe is going through a second wave currently.

Not looking forward to having mask on that long thru airport and during flight. I think about an hour is as long as I have had it on.
Eat fresh steamed or broiled lobster, steamers, eastern potatoes and some apples fresh off a tree.
Thank me later.
Had two weeks with my daughters, first time I've spent with them in years. Was great. Good girls, great shoppers.
Hiked, go on the water a bit canoeing, took them out to brew-pubs and one really fine Italian restaurant in Plattsburgh, NY.
Dress warm. I just got back

That said, over the course of a full summer, that was one visit from friends, 3 visits from relatives. Nobody bitched about it.
We don't go in anyone elses house, nobody goes in ours.
What's *weirder*, I imagine is us popping up a tent in friends yard to set up the port a jon.
People piss in port a johns all the time. What I built in my yard, 4x8 shed, is a lot nicer and cleaner.
