Giants and RB Devonta Freeman now officially have agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $3 million. “Devonta turned down more money from other teams because he likes the opportunity with the Giants best,” per @Rosenhaussports
.
my guess is incentives make up at least $1m of that amount. I'm in favor of just about any reasonable investments that can be made to help Jones. He is the franchise, making his job easier is a good thing.

Rosenhaus actually might be telling the truth for once. He visited other teams and perhaps there were offers that exceeded the base but he likely wants to be the alpha. Thrilled to have him
in other words the Eagles offered him more but he likes his chances to succeed with the Giants!
I love it!
Welcome to the world of Big Blue Devonta Freeman!
He’s certainly not the Bell Cow type back, but see him a big part of the offense now. If the Oline can start to run block more effectively, then we might have a three man rotation with Lewis getting a few carries, but being used moreso in the passing game.
25M so far in his career. He’s got plenty of money. This gives him the best chance to prove he’s still got something and perhaps get another contract. Betting on himself.
While the Giants weren’t the highest, they were in the ballpark. It would also give the best chance to show he is more than a platoon RB which could more than make up the difference on the next contract. Also the Giants offensive brass come from schemes that liked to get RB involved in passing game versus others who might want him to just take a pounding running inside.
To prove he can’t run behind our great OL, what a brilliant move.
When this line comes together, posts like this are going to look pretty darn silly.
Agreed Eric. A lot of people forget 3/5 of our line is new including a rookie RT. Throw in a completely non-existent offseason program and no preseason and it’s going to lead to poor play the first few weeks. Let’s check in around week 6 and see where they are at. This season favors teams with existing coaching staffs and veteran players. Especially the first half of the season.
Lewis missed a bunch of opportunities.
Freeman will get you the tough yards and move the ball. He is not the Barkley like threat to bust it but he is a smart vet RB.
We are lucky he was still out there.
Those lines did not have the players that populate this roster, including the back-up OLs.
So what? What if the players who populate this roster turn out to be mostly average-not that good?
I certainly hope Andrew Thomas pans out, but again - there's absolutely no guarantee there. See: Robinson, Greg.
Matt Peart is a total project. He could work out, he could also never crack an NFL lineup and be a complete bust. Fleming is no more than a mediocre stopgap.
Gates also sucks. We have no center right now. So, not sure what the plan is there, but I don't think the center we need is currently on the roster.
RE: Not being optimistic is also a defense mechanism IMO
So you have to be optimistic about a team that has sucked total ass every year since 2012 with one exception otherwise you're using a coping mechanism?
Though I personally don’t share Arca’s doom and gloom,
If you think Andrew Thomas is Ereck Flowers, then I don't know what to say.
This line is going to be a good one. It won't happen right away, but they have the parts.
I didn't say Andrew Thomas was Ereck Flowers, but I'm pretty damn sure if you go back to 2015, most of this board probably thought we "had our guy" and thought we "had a plan" back then for the OL, too.
I can't believe I have to justify being negative about the worst team in the NFL over the last 3 years who are, again 0-2, and have scored fewer points through two weeks than any team in football.
I've tried the whole "wait and see" thing.. many times.
I keep seeing the same thing.
A team that doesn't make plays when a game is on the line and a team that continues to lose almost every single time they take the field.
We still can't run the ball. We still can't stop the run late in games. How many times did David Montgomery or Benny Snell cut through our front in 4th quarters?
I'm done giving the Giants the benefit of the doubt and I'm an idiot for having done it as long as I did. I'll believe this team is actually turning a corner when they start winning football games.
Washington looks like the next game we have a chance in. We're probably looking at 0-5 at that point.
Those lines did not have the players that populate this roster, including the back-up OLs.

You are 100% right but what is the point in being so negative about it? Why think negaticely? why think it is going to fail?
We have no effect on what is going to happen so why not live in the moment and just see what happens?

I tried that in 2013... and 2014... and 2015... and was pleasantly surprised in 2016, so I assumed 2017 would be a good team... it was historically bad. We sucked again in 2018. We sucked again in 2019. We're 0-2 again in 2020.
If I can't be negative at this point, there's never a time for it. Lol.
It takes me a while to get to this point, but I'm here. I just have no faith in the Giants anymore. Premier NFL franchises don't spend this many years as doormats.
No, I'm not going to stop being a Giants fan. I'm not going to stop watching the games. I will always watch and always hope I'm wrong, but this is just a bad football team and it's a bad football team until it isn't.
When we start winning games, I'll be happy and hopeful again. Until then, this is where I am at.
1. Can Eric please ban “sucks” as adjective, verb, or adverb. It’s just a dumb remark made seemingly reflexly by posters who are either too lazy or too ignorant to factually defend their position. I for one am tired of reading of what and who sucks.
2. Now that the rb position has perhaps been solidified, I would like to see our FO look for viable wr’s on other PS’s or out of league. We really need some true wr’s, those who are not slot players. who can play outside. If the draft was so enriched at the wr position, then some teams should have some pretty good tall, strong, and fast athletes stowed away. We desperately need some manpower there.
3. Let’s treat each other as fellow fans and not as objects. It would be a great help to keep BBI away from degenerating into some awful imitation TV sports panel show. I guess that’s up to us to act appropriately.

I get it, furstrating to watch losses after losses and hard to be optimistic..
For me with the Giants they gave me 2 championships so i habe a lot more patience eith them..
Giants could never ein a game again and they still gave me those 2 championships and it is not that i dont have the passion for the giants, at the edge of my seat every game...The losses jist dont kill me like they used to..
I guess with him being unemployed he couldn’t afford Sunday Ticket to see Saquon’s success behind this line in weeks one and two?
On the other hand, he couldn't do much worse than Saquon did behind this line at the start (knock on wood), so could be banking on the line doing better and his actually looking good in comparison to Saquon.
RE: RE: Not being optimistic is also a defense mechanism IMO
So you have to be optimistic about a team that has sucked total ass every year since 2012 with one exception otherwise you're using a coping mechanism?
Hey man whatever floats your boat. I can’t imagine spending all the time you have since the season started hating the team so much. Doesn’t seem like you are having fun but maybe I’m wrong. Don’t you get bored of it?
Not sure who would be having fun watching the Giants right now. If you are, more power to you - I'm personally tired of watching garbage football and think it'd be cool if the team we root for could stop being a doormat and a "get right" game for every team in the NFL.
there’s varying degrees to that enjoyment of course. But I refuse to let a sports team make me bitter, I don’t see any point in it. In the grand scheme of things it just isn’t important enough to get upset about.

So, do you. Let me be me. If I choose to vent my frustrations in an appropriate venue, that's my decision. We don't all need to watch the Giants through the same lens.
If you don't like reading negative things about a crappy football team, this might not be a great place to spend spare time this fall and winter.
Also, the Giants make me bitter towards... the Giants. That's all.
I don't carry any of this into my personal life. I stopped doing that many moons ago. It would just be fantastic if this football team could stop being a league-wide laughingstock.
I can't think of many NFL teams who wouldn't see NYG on their schedule and not say "well, we can get a win there"
Almost every single team that has us on their schedule can say that.
I think the assumption the Giants offensive line is predestined to come together is a little silly. Over the last 2 games, the line has had major issues. Totally to be expected — because of the unorthodox offseason, the unfamiliarity of the unit, but also maybe because of the talent.
I think there are some likely positive outcomes:
1) Thomas is a high talent, high caliber player who will develop nicely
2) Hernandez benefits from not having literally the worst tackle on his wing like he did last year
I also think there are some reasonably likely disappointing outcomes:
1) UDFA Nick Gates is not an NFL caliber center
2) Kevin Zeitler is physically at the tail end of his career in year 9 in the NFL
3) Cam Fleming is not talented enough to be relied on as a full-time starter
Not to say those last three things are a lock to happen, but if those were true statements at the end of the year, would that be surprising?
you’re getting confused with “a tremendous amount of faith in this team” vs “I finally like the direction we are heading and the fact that they’ve made a commitment to do something about the OL with draft picks and coaching regime.”
I mean - what the hell do you want everyone to say? Until Joe Judge goes 13-3 we are just gonna suck forever?
We’ve played.....two games....with this new regime. Two games. Our rookie LT looks like the best lineman we’ve had in about 10 years, literally. Call me crazy but I do have a glimmer of hope, not a super bowl guarantee.
I can't believe I have to justify being negative about the worst team in the NFL over the last 3 years who are, again 0-2, and have scored fewer points through two weeks than any team in football.

You're entitled to be pessimistic but then what's the point of posting here? Your entire football opinion is everything about this teams sucks. Why post here then? First, you seem miserable why be here if Giants football makes you so miserable? Second, what does it add to the discussion if that's all you ever talk about?

Welcome to the world of Big Blue Devonta Freeman!
Here’s hoping he is the comeback player of the year when the season is done!
I wasn't expecting less, just find it an interesting fact.
