Most of my memories of Mr Sayers come from ‘ Brian’s Song’ which still makes me tear up ... The love and compassion those 2 guys had for each other is the model for the brotherhood and unity we sorely need today. God bless and RIP.

Yep me too. Especially near the end when he said "Its mine tonight, but its his tomorrow" Billy Dee Williams did a great job playing Sayers in that movie

Terrible loss. Agreed.

(You misspelled “song” and replaced it with a funny word....)

his highlights stand the test of time, just an incredible athlete. Him and Barry Sanders stand out from everyone else when it comes to pure quickness. And his style was smoother than Sanders'. Just a really unique talent who didn't play for a long time, but made a huge impact.
RIP Kansas Comet

Bears took Dick Butkus and Gale Sayers back-to-back. I mean you can't ask for two better picks. Hell of a haul.

I cried when I saw "Brian's Song" too. I think I was about 10. Never saw "Brian's Dong Growing Up", but from the sound of it, im pretty sure at 10 years old that I would have cried seeing that one as well.

We were livid at the time. Butkus and Sayers were far and away the two best players in college. A total no-brainer..Total.

I was too young to see him play, but being in the IT server field (and now the data center business) as my day job, I met him many times as he owned a very successful computer business / IT integrator with a very large branch in the Boston area after he retired from the NFL. Really a super nice guy. I actually interviewed and almost worked there, as when the NEC division (based in Boxborough MA) I worked for closed down a few of the people that I worked with went over to Sayers. RIP Mr. Sayers!

top 5 RB in the history of the league, perhaps top 2 absent injury, and still the best kickoff and punt returner I've ever seen. Even at age 12 I followed his exploits in college, and I was really surprised that the Giants passed on him and took Frederickson instead. (At that time I don't think the draft was on TV, and our TV of that era had no remote anyway - so I didn't hurl the remote.)

I didn't know about his success in business post-football, and I'm glad to hear about that.
I love Brian Piccolo

In a 14-game season. 14 TDs rushing, 6 receiving, 1 punt return and 1 KO return.
