If they win, it'll be because the 49ers were decimated and had half their team out. If they lose, they'll get crucified because they couldn't beat a 49er team which was basically playing most of their 2nd and 3rd stringers. Still, I'll take a victory anyway they can get it
If they win against SF Sunday it is still an important win and won't matter any differently in the standings. At this point I would be happy with a win over the Bengals. In the NFL it is often not about who you play but when you play them.
The Giants should have two primary objectives that hopefully intersect mid season:
1) Tread water in a pretty bad division and hope to be in striking distance of getting in the tournament
2) Build up the competencies of key units manned by a lot of younger guys to compete at the NFL level (OL & secondary)
If the Giants get to midpoint, and both those are on-track, you fight like hell to get scratch out every game. If they aren't, it's perfectly reasonable to spend the rest of the season on player development and analysis.
We are playing with a new coach and second year QB (in his second pro offense) after a virtual offseason and no preseason and without 2 of our top 3 or 4 offensive weapons against a team that has its own injuries but went to the Super Bowl last year with many of the same people.
A win here would be a big deal. They all are.
We need to win ugly again and have people saying the team is overrated. I would kill for those days.
Wins = good
losses = bad
Thanks.
If we beat a decimated SF team this week because we actually have more talent on the field (not a given) than so be it.
The Giants should never need to apologize for winning a football game. We have enough of our own problems and we just just our best offensive weapon.
A win is a win - if we're fortunate enough to come away with one, it's a win. That's it.
Its our sweet-spot.
Well the season might be over, but not being competitive is complete bullshit. Radio host doing what he can to get callers I guess, or he's just a moron.
This team needs wins and as many as possible.
Nah, this reasoning makes too much sense. Can't be this simple, it just can't.
And if the Giants don’t get in the tournament because they lost an early season game to a completely decimated SF team, that would suck.
If we beat the 49ers (big if), we are in a win-situation.
If we lose to the 49ers, we are in a lose-situation.
It’s bi-modal, and there are no other options, unless you want to consider a tie.
I'll be fooking thrilled that I had this guy figured out all wrong.
And he should, his next contract (surely not with the Giants) hinges on it.
Now, if we finish 5-11 and Gettleman is pointing to beating the defending NFC Champs as evidence of that the team has improved like he and Shurmur did following 2018, we'll see a different perspective.
Didn’t we play this qb a few years ago when JG went down?
