the right move let him get fully healthy (or as healthy as he ever is)
Eric on Li : 9/23/2020 10:22 am : link
I guess they can elevate a WR off the PS and continue to let Ratley and Board get reps on the outside. Both have been fine so far. I wonder if there's any thought to giving Engram more reps split out wide. Would think with his size he'd be able to move the chains boxing defenders out.

The Giants signed center Javon Patterson to their practice squad. Patterson, 6-3 and 307 pounds, was a seventh-round draft choice out of Mississippi by Indianapolis in 2019. He spent the entire 2019 season on injured reserve with an ACL injury. Patterson was cut by the Colts on Sept. 5.

Sounds like roster fodder. Perhaps a better developmental prospect than Haycroft.

I am hoping that they bring back Corey Coleman. If they decide to promote a PS WR then Austin Mack is the most likely to contribute IMO.

guessing we see more of Engram split out wide.
WR and CB are huge needs for this team next year.
Cory Coleman

would be smart right now.
so based on practice squad rules
Peter from NH (formerly CT) : 9/23/2020 10:40 am : link
they can bring up WRs just for games as a backup. Given that it is three weeks, they could bring up one player for two weeks and a second player for one week and not make any changes to either the practice squad or 53 roster - if I have that right.

Makes sense

thought they would. It seemed obvious. WR is a real need in the offseason. I'd like them to bring back Coleman, but I'd be surprised if they do. It seems that ship has sailed.
curious on the turf toe...
ryanmkeane : 9/23/2020 10:49 am : link
what exactly causes it? is it just repeatedly jamming the toe into turf over time? or is it a one time tackle type thing where the toe gets jammed?

arcarsenal : 9/23/2020 10:50 am : link
Still don't understand why Coleman was cut - he's got to be better than some of the other options we have but apparently the staff feels otherwise.
Roster strategies around Wide Receiver corps have been
LBH15 : 9/23/2020 10:52 am : link
puzzling.

They most definitely need to inject some bodies and some youth into this group but it was ignored during free agency and went in other directions in a deep draft. Maybe the idea was UDFA grabs weren't much different in their grades than the mid to later round guys?

Who is #3 WR for this Sunday?
Agree on Coleman, who can also be a KR
Jim in Forest Hills : 9/23/2020 10:55 am : link
I trust him more than Mack, Victor or Dillon. If they are looking for another slot, I think Mack would make the most sense if they go off of the PS.
next man up

let's see what we have in Board and Ratley.

no surprise here
UConn4523 : 9/23/2020 11:06 am : link
Devante Adams missed 5/6 games last year iirc. I doubt Shepard is back much sooner than that.
This happens every year...
Capt. Don : 9/23/2020 11:07 am : link
A guy like Coleman looks great in camp (according to beat writers) and then is a surprise cut.

But then here we are, approaching week 3, and he hasnt been picked up by any other team in the NFL which leads me to believe that our coaches might know more than myself and the beat writers.

It's caused by the toe being repeatedly stressed upwards. Such as when a Receiver pushes off at the start of a route or when planting and making cuts. It can also be caused by the foot moving within the shoe and jamming toes due to the stickiness of Turf
Shep to IR?

Does this mean he can come back in four weeks?

I'd agree w/you completely during any other year, but w/o pre-season games, access to practices, it's an absolute crap shoot for teams bringing in players from other teams. Our coaches may have been right, but either our writers(most of them have been w/the team for some time) don't know anything about football or there's at least something to be taken by their writings!

Maybe for CB we should think about cluster drafting there? Maybe spend for a top FS also to round it out?

Oh wait...

For WR, we'll just have to wait for a draft that is deep at the position to address that.

Oh wait...
definitely going to miss Shep
bc4life : 9/23/2020 11:48 am : link
but we're probably faster at the position than we have been in a long time. Board and Ratley are fast.

But, Giants will have to run the ball better to take full advantage of that speed.

Exactly.
We fans tend to get more excited about some of these players than the league does. Coleman and Ross Cockrell are both currently unemployed......with expanded Practice Squads, there is no reason to believe the pre-season hype on guys like this at this point.

It should be Evan Engram. Enough with the failed tight end experience already.
The guy is $9 million against the cap this year and next

Just wondering, is a "Mongolian cluster-fuck" an actual real thing?
I have a feeling that Coleman has a learning disability
gidiefor : Mod : 9/23/2020 1:51 pm : link
this coaching staff is demanding that you understand what they are teaching and that you work at it - if you are unable to respond and show you are grasping what they are teaching they do not suffer this lightly --

I'm sure this is why Connelly and Coleman were lower priorities in the scheme of things

There were rumors that this was the case with Coleman when he was in Cleveland. He was never able to really grasp the playbook and would make all kinds of route running mistakes.
