NFT: Bond: No Time To Die

TXRabbit : 9/24/2020 10:31 am
Trailer 2 came out 3 weeks ago (not sure how I missed that) and it really has my interest.
The action looks pretty intense albeit over-the-top but it is 007 afterall.

I think we also get a sneak-peak at our next 00.

The plane/sub thing is awesome.
cannot wait

stopped watching trailers just to go in as blind as possible. Will definitely be seeing in IMax.
Hope they keep the date,
barens : 9/24/2020 10:58 am : link
or even better, put it on VOD.
I know it's been a long standing

and subjective debate over who's been the best Bond but I have to say Daniel Craig is superb!
They're saying that Tom Hardy

Was very impressive in his audition as the next 007

Ehh, VOD can wait IMO. This needs to be seen on the big screen for my first viewing.
the Hardy rumors are swirling

again. Not going to get my hopes up but I'd love to see it.

Best Bond will always comes down to Connery and Craig for me by a significant margin.

I agree and disagree, I think it should be put out in the theaters, but also on VOD at the same time, or at least shortly thereafter.

I'm pissed that Disney pushed back all of their Marvel stuff again, I enjoy taking my kids to those movies selfishly, and soon enough, they won't be going with me, and I'll be SOL, as sad as that may be.
Spectre wasn't a very good film
Knineteen : 9/24/2020 12:10 pm : link
Really put a damper on an otherwise fantastic Bond era. No clue how this film is going to pan out.

Cavill proved himself worthy in MI: Fallout. Just give him the role already.
yeah put it in theaters for 2 weeks then VOD
UConn4523 : 9/24/2020 12:16 pm : link
but big picture I don't see them doing that unless COVID spikes and they shut down theaters again.

I saw Tenet in IMAX and it was as pleasant a theater experience as I've had. Tenet is at about $200m globally so that means its starting to make back the cost and will then go to VOD to turn a profit.

Bond is far more reaching so opening up to theaters should make that $250m budget back pretty easily and then VOD after that.
It's gonna be interesting
DieHard : 9/24/2020 12:44 pm : link
To see what kind of box office will be achievable for this one when it comes out -- November is a little ways off, but who knows what % of theaters will be open?

As a Bond fan, I've been following this production closely. Some stuff sounds good, some not so good, but I think Cary Fukanaga (True Detective) will bring a fresh take, I'm eager to hear what Hans Zimmer does with a Bond score (he's a Bond aficionado himself), and at least the film looks gorgeous from the shots we've seen. Much more colorful and vibrant than SPECTRE, anyway.
Connery invented it
adamg : 9/24/2020 12:48 pm : link
Craig did a good job of playing it.
Spectre is so frustrating
UConn4523 : 9/24/2020 12:48 pm : link
probably the best opening ever in the history of the series and then just nosedives. I don't get why Bond films have so many writing and "creative differences" issues.
Love the trailer...
DonQuixote : 9/24/2020 12:50 pm : link
Looks totally over the top, which well, looked fun.

I also appreciate the OP.

Let me add,
Airplane that dives into the ocean
Range Rovers flying all over the place. They are a subdued gray so I think they are being driven by evildoers.

This is kind of what I need while I am squirreled away during a pandemic.

I think they often get caught up trying to duplicate what they think worked last time, with diminishing returns. The Bond family history stuff in SkyFall was OK, but they really overplayed it in SPECTRE.

There's a lot at stake here. The budget for the movie might be around $200 million, but you also have to add all the marketing costs (and they've had to market this one twice since it got pushed back), and you're probably closer to $400 million for break-even.
i'm hopeful
UConn4523 : 9/24/2020 12:55 pm : link
Casino Royale (1 and 3) were infinitely better than QoS and Spectre (2 and 4). Hoping the every other movie patter holds true and Craig goes out on top.

Not sure this is a widely-held view.
Big Blue Blogger : 9/24/2020 2:02 pm : link
For me, the divider between great, good, so-so and forgettable Bond movies has always been an interesting story with some real suspense. So, From Russia with Love remains my #1 despite having no spectacular effects and gadgets pretty much limited to a booby-trapped briefcase. Plus, it's Connery at his best - which nobody came close to matching until Craig.
Layer Cake
JonC : 9/24/2020 2:14 pm : link
helped get Craig the 007 role, and funny that Hardy played a bit role in Layer Cake as a Craig henchmen. Both among my fave actors. Hella fun watching Peaky Blinders and Hardy pops up as a bad guy.

Its my favorite of the Connery films. Most people love Goldfinger but I'm taking FRWL all day over it.
all over BBB and UConn
ColHowPepper : 9/24/2020 2:45 pm : link
Big part of what made Russia so good were the plot backdrops, sewer periscope under the Russian Embassy, the girl fight at Pasha's country estate, and of course classy looking Daniella Bianchi.

Even #3's inspection of the Spectre 'fitness center' was hokey and cute in a Cold War sense.

Agree this 'bout Bond's best and Craig a worthy successor (h/t to Adam), just watched Casino again, excellent. (He was surprisingly effective in 'Knives Out', didn't know what to expect).
FRWL is one of the only Bond movies
DieHard : 9/24/2020 3:01 pm : link
That works as a Cold War spy thriller as well as a Bond movie. Once Goldfinger established the formula, most of the follow-ups are variations on the same theme.

Lots of great stuff in FRWL. Pedro Armendariz as one of the best Bond sidekicks. Robert Shaw and Lotte Lenya as baddies. Classic train brawl with Connery and Shaw hasn't been topped. Definitely one of my faves too.

Craig is awesome in Knives Out
UConn4523 : 9/24/2020 5:28 pm : link
his range really shines when you look at his full body of work. Munich, Road to Perdition, Layer Cake, Bond, Logan Lucky, Knives, and few others.
Huge Bond fan
Zeke's Alibi : 9/24/2020 5:36 pm : link
Been a big fan of Craig since Layer Cake so I was excited when they announced him as Bond.

I thought the only logical choice for next bond was Idris Elba, but bringing Hardy into the conversation is super intriguing. I think he'd make a fantastic Bond and play on the type that Craig has built.
Hardy as Bond is intriguingly risky
DieHard : 9/24/2020 5:57 pm : link
He could look the part and I can easily see him playing the charming/rough sides of the character. But he follows his own drummer, which sometimes results in some bizarre performances (e.g., Venom).

A lot also depends on what the Bond team want to do after Craig leaves. Reboot the whole thing again? Act like the next Bond is the same guy Craig has been playing? From what I've heard, the producers aren't in a hurry to recast the part, because they themselves aren't sure what the next step is.
Venom was dead on arrival
UConn4523 : 9/24/2020 6:13 pm : link
just a terrible character for a feature film. I think that’s an outlier for Hardy.

Elba I would have loved 10 years ago had there been no Craig but starting multiple films at almost 50 kinda sucks. Hardy just passes the age test for me unless it would be a stopgap 1 or 2 film deal.

Ideally I’d love to see them go super young and go full “he isn’t Bond yet” like they started off with in Casino Royale.

Yeah, even if they only go the usual 3-4 years before the next Bond movie, Hardy will be closing in on 50 by then, which'll make him the oldest guy to debut in the role.

It's quite the conundrum. I get the feeling the producers don't want to go back to "business as usual" formula Bond movies, but after you've played the reboot card once, can you do it again effectively?

But he's not a Martini guy:
Quote:
WARSAW (Reuters) - Poles were left shaken and stirred by news that a suspected British agent called James Bond was on Her Majesty’s secret service in the country in the 1960s, after the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) posted about him on social media.

According to the institute’s archive, James Bond came to Poland on Feb. 18, 1964, and was officially employed as an archivist for the British Embassy Military Attache. He soon came to the attention of Polish counterintelligence officers.

“We know he was in Poland ... in 1964 and 1965,” Marzena Kruk, director of the IPN’s archive, told Reuters.

“He traveled a bit around Poland ... he liked women, the same as his literary namesake, but there is not even a word about Martini,” she said, referring to the fictional character’s favorite tipple. “However, there is information that he liked Polish beer.”

Interesting story - ( New Window )
