Gives the Rangers a little more depth up the middle, good 2 way player, gives them flexibility to move Chytil to the wing if that's where they see him. Rangers aren't really in a position to make any big splashes, and Granlund is probably in that category as one of the few centers available.
I still think the Rangers are going to be looking to trade for a C rather than sign one in FA. I was kind of hoping Domi would work out in a trade. Do we think they'd sign Strome AND trade for a C? This will be an interesting few weeks for the Rangers...
Have you seen the rumor that Vegas might attach a high pick in order to move Fleury? I don't know if there is any truth to it but the Devils would be a perfect landing spot if they could secure a 1st round pick to take on Fleury and his contract.

Yep, common with teams looking to move cap, better than a buyout. I'd almost always rather send a pick and/or a player to clear the space than buy the player out.
Canadiens got Joel Armia this way from WIN (instead of a high pick) when WIN wanted to get rid of Steve Mason.
Canadiens got Armia, a 4th, a 7th, and Mason for Simon Bourque or someone like that. Armia is a top 6 forward.
If I had cap space and a goalie need I'd be on the phone with LVG.
reporting on Twitter that there's smoke around the Rangers and Matt Martin. Not sure how I feel about that.
I doubt the Rangers sign Martin, but I think he would be a really good fit. This team has a lot of skill, but aside from Lemieux, not a lot of toughness. Losing Fast is going to hurt too, and I think Martin can be a nice addition. Watching the Islanders playoff run, Martin could have been their playoff MVP. He scored some big goals, and every time he was on the ice, opposing teams felt it.

SNR, I think spot on. Hopefully, Rangers add Kravtsov to a skilled, smooth skating group: they play a most appealing style. Beat CAR 4/4 in regular season, and then what happened?
You watch the grind that is the SCP and maybe a game here or there is wide open, but 80% of the time it's two-way hockey, grinding along the boards and behind the net, you hope a forward or d-man springs open in the crease. Martin is that kind of guy to dig and get it out, plants himself, plays 2-way.
JD and Quinn were pretty clear in the CAR aftermath that they recognized that the team was heavy on skill and light on being 'difficult to play' and depth. AlexiLaf, Schneider, and Will Cuylle constitute steps in the direction the team's thought leaders identified as necessary to improving and expanding the overall competence and competitiveness of the team. Of course, the latter two won't help in 2020-2021 or probably the next year. But it shows they are serious, and Martin would represent a similar step here and now.
Of course, Anak panned the idea, but that's because he's the Jerry Reese wannabe designer of NYR. (: (:
He's as tough as they come, but it's not like he ed be on the PK.
They need to be tougher to play against, not necessarily tougher when the gloves are off. That would be nice, but I think Martin is a luxury at this point.
If Fast is gone, then they're gonna need to replace that AND add more pest type defensive players up front. I'd rather have a Czikas or Clutterbuck type from that line than Martin
And I'd prefer to do it short term and on the cheap deals.
Like an Eakin and Grabner type combo. Or insert grinding defensive forward who can play the middle or wing and a fast defensive forward of your choice.

My plan for the Devils this season is to sign several players to one year deals in order to try to trade them at the deadline for draft picks.
First acquiring Fleury and a 1st would be a great start. Fleury would be a great mentor for Blackwood and they could split time in net. If Fleury plays well he could be traded also to a team in search of goalie help. The return could be solid especially if the Devils eat some of his remaining cap number.

Two sources confirm the #NHLJets are close to striking a deal for C Paul Stastny from the Vegas Golden Knights. Sounds like picks are involved going the other way.
Stastny has one-year left on a deal making him $6.5 million per year.
One of my favorite hockey days of the year. With the cap space issues and making their splash this year, I think a lot of the transactions will be with other teams besides the Rangers. Obviously Henrik looks to be going to Washington and Fast is likely gone. So maybe some internal moves later in the off season.

would need to move salary out in trade in order to make an impact in UFA. More likely they look for veteran value to hold the fort until some farm prospects are ready. Here's hoping Kravtsov and a defenseman or two make the team, in addition to Lafreneire.
RE: Do you guys think the AHL not playing is having an impact..
AHL isn't playing? I thought they set 12/4 as a season start date.
Either way, not sure for free agency, but I do think no finish to the juniors seasons, NCAA season, and post-season all-star/show-case/international tournaments impacted the draft.
I feel like we will look back at the draft and ask how did that player fall so low or how did team x miss so bad on this player.
I'm not sure what impact the AHL will have since I don't think they announced anything official for 2020-2021.

As we've speculated all week, I would expect Wayne Simmonds to get offers from Toronto and Montreal and possibly Calgary today. There are other teams as well but if I would handicap it at this hour, I would say those three Canadian teams have the best shot.
Goalie market will be fascinating to watch today. One of the first signings to become official is expected to be Henrik Lundqvist to WSH on a one-year contract. The King has been UFA since being bought out by the NYR but can’t formalize the contract until today.

I Understand they needed a goalie for the expansion draft. I didn’t realize they needed forwards or defensemen to expose. I would hope the Rangers are smart with their cap money and sign short term fillers for the center position and a left defensemen

Yep, perhaps the same with Blackwell and to a less extent Rooney, but not familiar with him.
I believe it is 2 F and 1 D exposed have to be under contract for at least the Kraken's first season and play either 40 games this coming year or 70 combined between last year and this year. Blackwell doesn't seem to fit because he would need 40 games this year which likely won't be met unless there are injuries. Rooney is more likely for that as he only needs 21 games to meet 70 combined.
....same as Vegas so replace Vegas with Seattle and 2017-2018 with 2021-2022
Protected Lists
* Clubs will have two options for players they wish to protect in the Expansion Draft:
a) Seven forwards, three defensemen and one goaltender
b) Eight skaters (forwards/defensemen) and one goaltender
* All players who have currently effective and continuing "No Movement" clauses at the time of the Expansion Draft (and who to decline to waive such clauses) must be protected (and will be counted toward their club's applicable protection limits).
* All first- and second-year professionals, as well as all unsigned draft choices, will be exempt from selection (and will not be counted toward their club's applicable protection limits).
Player Exposure Requirements
* All Clubs must meet the following minimum requirements regarding players exposed for selection in the Expansion Draft:
i) One defenseman who is a) under contract in 2017-18 and b) played in 40 or more NHL games the prior season OR played in 70 or more NHL games in the prior two seasons.
ii) Two forwards who are a) under contract in 2017-18 and b) played in 40 or more NHL games the prior season OR played in 70 or more NHL games in the prior two seasons.
iii) One goaltender who is under contract in 2017-18 or will be a restricted free agent at the expiration of his current contract immediately prior to 2017-18. If the club elects to make a restricted free agent goaltender available in order to meet this requirement, that goaltender must have received his qualifying offer prior to the submission of the club's protected list.
* Players with potential career-ending injuries who have missed more than the previous 60 consecutive games (or who otherwise have been confirmed to have a career-threatening injury) may not be used to satisfy a club's player exposure requirements, unless approval is received from the NHL. Such players also may be deemed exempt from selection by the League.

Hoo boy, we finally jettison Staal and end up signing someone just as bad.
All things considered though, it's good to have a veteran D on the team and for $1M Jack Johnson is not a bad one to have.
Staal and Girardi and Smith were/are so bad not just because they're bad, but because they were being paid like they're good. If Staal was making $1M not sure he'd warrant the same vitriol.
I am not comfortable AT ALL with what they will be trotting out there on the left side of the defense this year if nothing changes. Lindgren is the only quality player of who they have right now, unless K'Andre is ready to go, which would push either Smith or Johnson to the 7D spot. I still feel like a trade or two are cooking though...

7.8 mill for 2. A little steep on the $ for Craw who's very injury prone at this point. In this market I would think he'd have come cheaper. Competent 2nd goalie though. I'm with Jay though still wanna see the Devs use their cap space to gain assets for teams looking to free up space.

It's a slight overpay but Crawford did have a very good season last year. As long as Blackwood gets the majority of the starts Crawford should be a good compliment. More importantly the contract was for two years which provides expansion insurance for Blackwood.
If Stome is gone what is the Rangers plan at C. What is the coaches love affair with Howden?
Remains to be seen. Right now the C depth is:
Zibanejad
Chytil
Howden
Barron/Rooney
That ain't gonna cut it. They can (and probably should) sign an UFA C like Lucas Wallmark, Erik Haula or Mikael Granlund, but those guys are really 3C. More likely is that they acquire a 2C via trade (maybe for Deangelo).
And I don't get Quinn's love for Howden. I don't think anyone does.

TOR/NJ is straight up Andreas Johnsson for Joey Anderson
Great trade for NJ IMO, this is what happens when you have no cap space. NJ gets a top 6 forward and doesn't give up much (I like Joey, but he's not likely to be on Johnsson's level. ever.)
I know we're not a playoff team right now but adding a top 4 pairing Dman, a nice young top 6 forward and solid 2nd goalie all without giving up much or spending a ton or committing to lots of years really starts pointing things in the right direction. The mega deals that work out in NHL free agency are few and far between. Panarin has definately been worth it but for every deal like that there are 10 that are awaiting cap hell. Also adding 3 promising 1st round pieces in the draft as well as a real promising goalie prospect in Dawes is great too. Very impressed with what Fitzgerald has done starting with the trade deadline.

Waking up to the Johnsson trade was a nice way to start the day. I like Joey Anderson but getting Andreas Johnsson straight up for him was a great move for the Devils. Johnsson will step right in on the second line next to Hughes and provide a much needed LW for the Devils.
Now let's hope that Nolan Foote earns a spot in NJ on opening night then I will feel much better about their forward depth than I did yesterday.
I agree Stu, the Devils are not a playoff team yet but they have added some solid pieces this offseason. Holtz should be a perfect compliment to Hischier or Hughes in 1-2 years. Mercer was a very solid pick with the 18th selection. Mukhamadullin is a huge question mark but I like him more after getting more familiar with him.
After the first two selections the Daws pick was my favorite. He is so athletic and clearly the best goalie prospect the Devils have had since Blackwood. Daws is actually eligible to play in the AHL this season so it will be interesting to see where the Devils decide to place him.
Scott Wedgewood. He was their 3rd round pick in 2010. He will likely backup prospect Gilles Senn in the AHL which means that Daws will not be in the AHL this year.

Things heating up slightly... still a few yards to go, but the #Isles are more confident now then they were on finding a home for Boychuk
With the likes of Mathew Barzal and Ryan Pulock still needing to be re-signed — and the Islanders in pursuit of a first-line scoring winger, Toews became expendable for a team that is already filled to the brim with defensive talent.
With Toews’ departure, it is all but confirmed that the young Noah Dobson will be a full-time member of New York’s defense next season.
Getting a pair of second-round picks allows the Islanders now to sweeten the pot on a potential salary-dumping deal that could get bloated contracts like that of Johnny Boychuk, Nick Leddy, or Andrew Ladd’s off the books.
Toews played 116 games over two seasons with the Islanders, netting 11 goals and 35 assists with a plus-8 rating Link - ( New Window )
but if they trade Toews they have a hole on D, no?
For a team who went to the conference finals I felt like they were close to being a contender or are a contender.
seems questionable to trade 2 of the top 6 D, without seeing the end game. I know Boychuk is nearing the end or past it, but Toews seemed solid.

I understand the concern and it is certainly justified but I think Schmidt played well last season. The 5 years are a bit concerning for a 29 year old but with Subban's contract coming off the books in 2 years the Devils will still have plenty of cap room with Schmidt on the books.

For sure. That is why Toews was dealt IMHO. While his pay may have been commensurate with his value league-wide, Mayfield/Dobson’s combined salaries are all likely to be less than what Toews gets so it was excessive for the Islanders.
and Dobson when drafted, haven't followed them much since then.
I would have thought Dobson was part of the team by now. Maybe he is and I haven't been paying attention.
Felt like he was almost NHL ready when drafted.
Dobson was a player I loved in that draft. Great size, skating, really solid in all facets.
Wilde too but to a slightly lesser extent, that U18 USA team in that draft year was stacked. Hughes, Wahlstrom, York, Wilde, Caufield, Farabee, Miler, Turcotte, Knight, etc..
That tournament convinced the Habs to take Kotkaniemi - he was great leading the Fins to the gold and it also got Kakko on the map.
Toews was their 4th best LD last year after they got Greene and Pelech came back. 1 of him and Leddy were going to get dealt and Toews likely just had more trade value. Leddy outplayed him in the postseason by a lot so not surprised they made that decision.
They are almost definitely going to play Dobson at his natural spot (RD) and bring back Greene on a cheap deal for LD. Boychuk will be the 7th guy if he doesn't get traded but it seems like the latter is close to happening.
Once all that's done they should have room to add a top 9 winger. Who that is, anyone's guess right now.

I could also see them moving Boychuk even though he is a leader behind the scenes and having Greene/Sebastian Aho rotate between 6th and 7th D-man positions next to Mayfield. That would allow Leddy/Dobson to be a pair.

RE: RE: trading Toews was as much about Dobson being ready as saving $
Toews was their 4th best LD last year after they got Greene and Pelech came back. 1 of him and Leddy were going to get dealt and Toews likely just had more trade value. Leddy outplayed him in the postseason by a lot so not surprised they made that decision.

Yeah if they can find a taker I think they'd love to get rid of Boychuk's contract and to your point they just gave Aho a 2 year deal with the 2nd year being one way. They had a couple other dmen at BPT who put up good numbers with similar pedigrees as Toews (Aho, Wotherspoon, Vande Sompel). Plus the aforementioned Wilde. And Hickey who would still be a good 7th man.
Which all adds up to why it made sense to trade Toews as opposed to commit big $ to him when they have a far greater need to find another winger (or 2).
I'm really excited to see Dobson get his shot and I think he'd do well on the right side of either Leddy/Greene. Toews chipped in goals on the rush every now and then but in the limited amount he played last year his skill level was noticeably higher than the rest of the D.
With Josh Anderson signed for 7 years and Toffoli in the fold for 4 years Cole Caufield is suddenly without a spot. These things tend to work themselves out, but extending Brendan Gallagher is not as much a slam dunk now.
Canadiens RW depth chart (not necessarily in order): Anderson, Toffoli, Gallagher, Armia - solid 4. Toffoli can play LW, well any of them actually can, it's not as big a deal for wings to play off wing as it is for D, but some coaches (and players) strongly prefer keeping players on their shot hand - especially young players.

HUGE!
DiGuiseppi actually isn't bad as a depth winger, but I really have no idea what the Rangers' plan is for this coming season. They're going to just bring back essentially the same team, only without Fast and with an even worse defenseman taking Staal's place??

Patrick Marleau signs a one-year deal with #SJSharks and is 45 games shy of passing Gordie Howe's NHL record of 1,767 games played.
will be in the top 9 for the Rangers so everyone will be shuffled.
Who knows though on D, FA is not over and they have some space.
Kravtsov playing a fullish KHL season and then playing a full season in the NHL (even if it's abbreviated to 60 games) will be really tough.
I think a huge reason for Kakko's struggles last year was that he was playing competitive hockey for almost a year straight with little break.
In retrospect it probably wasn't a good time to start his ELC - this is part of what I feel NHL teams need to be better at with young prospects. After this year (2020-2021) he has just one year left and then he's an RFA.
No one has a crystal ball, but this is obviously a non ideal allocation of cap IMO, getting just one season out of a top 10 pick before RFA status.
I don't understand how KHL contracts work, but I thought Kravtsov was loaned to traktor. I expected once the NHL camp starts he'd come back. Not sure though.
I am very excited for him. I read from someone on HF that the Rangers are almost as high on him as they are Kakko.
The Lias story is still so weird to me. I don't have any animosity for guys wanting to change situations (especially when NYR benefits most of the time), but I'm curious what triggered it.
RE: That's a good point, pj, I didn't think of that.

Here is a link with some quotes from Andersson, I don't think there is animosity on his end either toward the Rangers, just seemed like it didn't work out.
I don't think the Rangers gave him enough of a chance.
I didn't see why Howden deserved a spot over Andersson, for example.
I don't know the answer and NYR are not alone, Canadiens dealt with it with Kotkaniemi a little and Poehling still. Poehling had a hat trick in his NHL debut and then gets banished to the AHL, and people look at his AHL point total and say he's a bust.
Poehling would have been better off staying at St. Cloud St for his senior year, becoming a free agent and getting and NHL contract forcing his way into a lineup.
Now, it could be a career altering purgatory until he "produces" in the AHL when clearly, like Kotkaniemi, he's better than his linemates (and opponents), but younger and less pro experience.
it's on coaches and NHL front offices IMO to figure this out, or as I have said before "protect their investment".
I blame players too, but the team invests in the player, it hurts both when it doesn't work out but the team more IMO.
Howden gets shit on way to much by Rangers fans. I'm still pissed at the trade that brought him here, but he's the same age as Lias, a better skater and has a better all around game.
He obviously needs to take another step in his development, but that puts him in the same group as every other early 20's player in the organization.
was a 1st round pick too. Almost always a C or A on his teams, coaches love him, he's one of those "responsible" players supposedly. He was awesome in the WJC in 2018.
he was just not as heralded as Andersson, but he had quite a "youth" career as well.
Andersson has more upside though IMO and my point has been organizations need to take better care to see their prospects are in positions to succeed. Some will fail and no one is at fault per se, but some it seems like are more likely to fail based on how the team handles their development.

Obviously something went wrong with Lias' development.
Fact remains that Howden earned his spot over Lias two years in a row.
Lias or anyone should have been on the team over Howden.
I did however question putting either Lias or Kravtsov in the AHL.
I just don't have much faith in the AHL as a spot for development or introduction to professional hockey (for the most part).
Easy to say now, but I would have left both at home (Lias in SHL and Kravtsov in the KHL), but I guess when an opportunity presents itself to bring forein players to North America team jump at it - especially for young prospect high draft picks in the D+1 or D+2 years.
I read a blog ranking the professional/developmental hockey leagues and the AHL was 8th.
After the KHL, SHL, SM-Liiga, and only slightly above NCAA and the OHL.
this is stupid unless it's expansion draft related.

PJ any chance the Habs deal Gallagher now that they've added depth at wing? I hear they're starting to play hardball with him. That's exactly the kind of deal I'd love for the Devils to swoop in on.
While the Rangers have been inactive during Free Agency (aside from the terrible Jack Johnson signing), I still expect them to be in on guys like Matt Martin, Mikael Granlund and Erik Haula.

Tatar maybe, but both of the above good candidates too.

Since 2017-18, at 5v5, Brendan Gallagher is:
5th in goals. Behind only Matthews, McDavid, Kucherov and Ovechkin
If they do sign him, and no idea how true it is, I have to say Bergevin nailed the off-season.
Added steady presence to the D: Edmunson
Add sandpaper and scoring: Josh Anderson, Tyler Toffoli (both long term)
Extended Gallagher
Extended Petry
Upgrade backup goalie significantly
I think he needs to trade Weal, maybe Tatar and maybe even Mete, but that is as deep as Canadiens team as any I remember since 1986 IMO, which was better than the '93 team IMO.

is Mike Hoffman, like Taylor Hill did, is considering a 1-year deal.
Smart IMO, betting on yourself to produce and position yourself for a better pay day if the COVID cloud dissipates.
And next year Hall and Hoffman, probably the top two forwards again in the FA class other than maybe Landeskog (allowing for possible 37 year old Ovi, 36 year old Krejci, 37 year old Getzlaf).
I believe will definitely deal a 2019 top 9 forward.
I doubt it's Gallagher - he's the heart and soul of the team, but they traded Subban (who held that title before Gallagher) so who knows.
One of Danault, Tatar, Gallagher, Byron, Weal (Weal was not really top 9) and a long shot Gallagher will be dealt IMO.
the Habs have no elite 1st line, but they very well might have 4 2nd lines.
And they have guys like Caufield and Poehling waiting in the wings, someone will be traded, and in the next couple weeks I believe.
Hey pj....been a long time
Congrats on the Habs off-season. The 4-5 new guys look pretty decent. I’m surprised by the 7 year contract to Anderson....I guess his shoulder injury has resolved itself. I hope edmundsen is not another Alzner for your guys. Allen is a great backup and should help Price a lot. I haven’t really followed Toffoli but it sounds like he is good for 20 and should help your lacking PP
As for what to do with Cole? He is your next super star...he and Suzuki. When he is ready, someone moves over.
You mentioned Poehling. Are the Habs down on him? It seems like he didn’t improve enough. What is the thinking out there? I still remember walking away from his 4 goal game against my boys in a meaningless game and I thought he would also be great. So what gives?
Alzner was 3 years older and more expensive than Edmunson.
So even if Edmunson busts, he's not being counted on for the same type of expectation that Alzner was and the Canadiens have many more options now if Edmunson doesn't pan out. Juulsen seems like he's recovered from the gruesome injury, Romanov is in the US, Kulak was very solid in the bubble and my darkhorse Fleury to me looks like a legit 2-way defenseman.
The end comes quick for some guys, not everyone is Chara. And it seems like D get exposed sooner - players like Alzner - at one time were top 4 D, and then not so much. At the time of the Alzner contract no one thought it was as bad as it turned out.
Anderson had two options (in CBJ or MTL) 1 year prove it deal or 7-year long-term deal. He would not consider anything in between. I like it. If he's 2018 Anderson.
No idea what's going on with Poehling. Every time I see him, he's active, pushing the pace, physical, etc but somehow the Canadiens feel like Laval is the best spot for him. I can't figure out if they feel like he's a top 6 forward and they don't have a top 6 spot, or if they feel like he's an AHL player right now.
He should have stayed in school though IMO. But the Canadiens are the same team who sent Kotkaniemi down to Laval last year and he was their best player in the bubble. Julien is not an easy coach to break into the NHL with IMO.

Habs better hope he's 2018 - 2019 Josh Anderson.

I'm not sure what impact the AHL will have since I don't think they announced anything official for 2020-2021.

ii) Two forwards who are a) under contract in 2017-18 and b) played in 40 or more NHL games the prior season OR played in 70 or more NHL games in the prior two seasons.
iii) One goaltender who is under contract in 2017-18 or will be a restricted free agent at the expiration of his current contract immediately prior to 2017-18.

Wonder how many other players feel the same way.

It's a slight overpay but Crawford did have a very good season last year. As long as Blackwood gets the majority of the starts Crawford should be a good compliment. More importantly the contract was for two years which provides expansion insurance for Blackwood.
I mean I sure as hell hope the guys we signed don't qualify. Bitetto and Rooney and Joe fucking Schmo playing AT LEAST 30+ games for us? No thanks.

This and the Krug post are hilarious.
Fast is also one of the few good defensive forward they have.
That Ryan Murray trade is super weird to me. Great move for the Devils.

#Isles have traded D Devon Toews to the Avalanche for second-round picks in 2021 and 2022.
I Imagine they need the picks to move Boychuk
For a team who went to the conference finals I felt like they were close to being a contender or are a contender.
seems questionable to trade 2 of the top 6 D, without seeing the end game. I know Boychuk is nearing the end or past it, but Toews seemed solid.
Toews played 116 games over two seasons with the Islanders, netting 11 goals and 35 assists with a plus-8 rating

Patrick Marleau signs a one-year deal with #SJSharks and is 45 games shy of passing Gordie Howe's NHL record of 1,767 games played.
I also don't think Strome will be back.
Who knows though on D, FA is not over and they have some space.
Kravtsov playing a fullish KHL season and then playing a full season in the NHL (even if it's abbreviated to 60 games) will be really tough.
I think a huge reason for Kakko's struggles last year was that he was playing competitive hockey for almost a year straight with little break.

will be in the top 9 for the Rangers so everyone will be shuffled.

Habs first two second round picks:
Tuch Mysak
VAN needed D help, they need some sand paper too. they got pushed around in the playoffs
The Lias story is still so weird to me. I don't have any animosity for guys wanting to change situations (especially when NYR benefits most of the time), but I'm curious what triggered it.

Here is a link with some quotes from Andersson, I don't think there is animosity on his end either toward the Rangers, just seemed like it didn't work out.

I didn't see why Howden deserved a spot over Andersson, for example.
I didn't see why Howden deserved a spot over Andersson, for example.
Because Howden earned it and Anderson didn't?
You fuckin wish.
Howden gets shit on way to much by Rangers fans. I'm still pissed at the trade that brought him here, but he's the same age as Lias, a better skater and has a better all around game.
He obviously needs to take another step in his development, but that puts him in the same group as every other early 20's player in the organization.
he was just not as heralded as Andersson, but he had quite a "youth" career as well.

I think there's a lot of truth to that.
Nah, the other fuckface said it.
I agree with the rest. It's case dependent, but that's why teams really need to get to know the person before they proceed with developing the player.
Howden sucks and I don't think he's going to be a good NHL'er.
this is stupid unless it's expansion draft related.

PJ any chance the Habs deal Gallagher now that they've added depth at wing? I hear they're starting to play hardball with him. That's exactly the kind of deal I'd love for the Devils to swoop in on.
And they have guys like Caufield and Poehling waiting in the wings, someone will be traded, and in the next couple weeks I believe.

didn't mean to have Gallagher in here twice - meant to have Joel Armia in the first Gallagher slot.

Mete or Byron?

Bergevin doing some work this off-season - I definitely think someone needs to be moved now though.

Tatar maybe, but both of the above good candidates too.
People don't respect Gallagher enough IMO. I admit I'm guilty too, if someone asked who these stats were I'd have guessed McDavid, Pastrnak, Marchand, Laine, Eichel, someone like that.

Since 2017-18, at 5v5, Brendan Gallagher is:
5th in goals. Behind only Matthews, McDavid, Kucherov and Ovechkin
1st in shots.
1st in individual high-danger shots.
1st in rush attempts
1st in rebounds created.
1st in CF% among forwards.
1st in xGF% among forwards
The all Canadian team division is probably a necessity due to COVID.

owner Bill Foley dropped several bombshells to @BrianBlessing
in an interview today.
- Feb. 1 start date (maybe) for 2021-22 NHL season
- "48 to 56 games" with up to five games a week
- All-Canadian team division
Details and quotes here:

Also, if there's a COVID scare, a team can miss up to 10 games?
1. Yaroslav Askarov (NSH)
2. Ilya Sorokin (NYI) (he says Askarov is not clear cut #1)
3. Spencer Knight (FLA) (love this goalie)
4. Connor Ingram (NSH)
5. Dustin Wolf (CAL)
6. Jake Oettinger (DAL)
7. Cayden Primeau (MTL) Keith Primeau's son
8. Justus Annunen (COL)
9. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (BUF)
10. Jeremy Swayman (BOS)
Behind the Athletic paywall, but a good read if you like reading about goalie prospects.

It's a fair deal for both sides. Easily tradable.
But on the downside, there goes our best trade chip. Looking more and more likely that Strome will be the 2C again this year.
Best thing for TDA too, since in two years he's still set up for a LT contract with a higher cap. if he holds up his end of the deal.
Just they don't have any stars.

And drafted your boy, Mysak!
"Tuch Mysak"
even though it's pronounced Tuck and not touch, still funny either way.

Tuck My Sack still works. Well, really "Tuck Me Sack"
There, SJS or retire I believe.
He's getting lobbied pretty hard by some TOR players.

Looking forward to next year already.
Stay safe.
