Hoo boy, we finally jettison Staal and end up signing someone just as bad.
All things considered though, it's good to have a veteran D on the team and for $1M Jack Johnson is not a bad one to have.
Staal and Girardi and Smith were/are so bad not just because they're bad, but because they were being paid like they're good. If Staal was making $1M not sure he'd warrant the same vitriol.
I am not comfortable AT ALL with what they will be trotting out there on the left side of the defense this year if nothing changes. Lindgren is the only quality player of who they have right now, unless K'Andre is ready to go, which would push either Smith or Johnson to the 7D spot. I still feel like a trade or two are cooking though...

Smith is better than Johnson and Smith can be that veteran D.
I was hoping for a team like Colorado to scoop him up.
As for Jack Johnson, he is not very good. But I'm not going to lose my mind over a 1 year $1M contract. Just play him as the 6th/7th defenseman that he is and I'm cool

The #Bruins signed 32 y/o RD Kevan Miller to 1 yr Deal:
-$1M Base
-$1M Perf Bonuses: $250K Roster Day 1, $250K 10GP, $125K 20GP, $100K 30GP, $75K 40GP, $200K Playoffs
-Cap Hit $1M, AAV $2M
-Eligible for perf bonuses due to injury
-Rep'd Peter Fish Global
"Bridgeport Sound Tigers player Kieffer Bellows has violated the terms of AHL/PHPA Performance Enhancing Substances Program. All applicable discipline has been issued/satisfied. There are no current or further limitations/restrictions on his ability to play."
in former Isles goalie Thomas Greiss. Now that Talbot, khudobin, and Subban have all signed elsewhere Greiss is the last remaining goalie on my wishlist.

It's less about the money and more about the Rangers track record of being terrible at analyzing defensemen.

Exactly. Signing a guy who's below replacement level is not helping anything.

BOS GM Don Sweeney delayed his media availability today. We will see what’s up, because Bruins did not make an offer to Krug and indicated that it’s previous offer (6x$6.6) was no longer on the table. Bruins must have something else going on.
The Rangers may have had interest in ex-Ranger Michael Grabner, who was bought out by Arizona, but according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Freidman, Grabner informed teams that he will wait until it is determined when next season will begin before deciding where he will play.

Wonder how many other players feel the same way.
I bet a bunch of veterans who already made their money feel that way.
No idea why they'd want to deal with any bullshit, especially the ones not from North America

7.8 mill for 2. A little steep on the $ for Craw who's very injury prone at this point. In this market I would think he'd have come cheaper. Competent 2nd goalie though. I'm with Jay though still wanna see the Devs use their cap space to gain assets for teams looking to free up space.

It's a slight overpay but Crawford did have a very good season last year. As long as Blackwood gets the majority of the starts Crawford should be a good compliment. More importantly the contract was for two years which provides expansion insurance for Blackwood.

Still 1M that can be spent on other players. BETTER players.
