“ NFL is shutting down the Patriots’ facility this morning after another positive test, marking the third shutdown there in 10 days, sources tell me and @fieldyates. Patriots are testing this morning and awaiting further direction from the NFL. But the status of Monday night’s game vs. Denver is in question.”

I know these threads tend to go sideways and people get emotional pretty quickly so I'm not going to debate this, but I read that with colleges there is a group who is reporting data from 50 colleges related to their COVID testing and as of 10/1 they had a combined ~70,000 positive tests from the 50 schools, 3 hospitalizations, and 0 deaths, yet colleges are moving to virtual learning at a fast pace and shutting down a lot of activities.
There was a COVID death of a college kid from Appalachian state but they are not one of the schools in the tracking program and he had COVID before college began.
Just seems like maybe there is a better way for the NFL (and colleges).
though I admit I don't know what it is.
And when you have that many positives, the viral load is bound to shoot up and increase the likelihood of a more severe illness
Enjoy the games we do get today. And for goodness sake, remain vigilant against the virus!

What?

Ok I thought you your implying people got sicker not that more people get sick..(greater chance of catching it.)
Sorry
Fuck off, racist.
That’s bullshit. I’m not even advocating for a bubble since I don’t tithing that works for the NFL. But not putting in extra time on the schedule had disaster written all over it. Plenty of people thought this 6 weeks ago, it’s really not some far out idea.
Playoffs maybe.
Bubbles worked for the NHL and NBA because it was their playoffs only (so shorter duration and a smaller number of teams), and they all have less staff and even hockey probably has less equipment needs.

And never forget how we got into this mess in the first place.
Do you have to say this shit in every thread? Plus people aren't stupid, it doesn't take a genius to read between the lines. Why dont you just come out and say "Fuck China, this is their fault, not our own government's" in every post since you think you're being clever by trying to obfuscate it.
geezus
Can you stop with this fucking stupidity already? It's like every fucking thread that's even tangentially related to Covid, you feel the need to insert your racist xenophobia and political talking points.
Now the league is going to have to get creative. The Patriots had a bye next week, but the Broncos were scheduled to play Miami. And the Broncos and Miami do not have a mutual bye week, so multiple games are going to have to be rescheduled. (And the Patriots, who are the ones responsible, have the least disruption of all the teams who will be involved).
I'm not trying to be a Monday morning QB here, but like UCONN said I think they got complacent with their plan because of the other sports that played over their summer and it was essentially hope for the best. I'm extremely impressed with the testing protocols in place, but the NFL definetly had too much faith in them. In a sport where guys are all over each other combined with spikes we knew were coming, the only reason they couldn't make it work is that they didn't want to shell out the extra money to the players for this and losing Thursday night revenue.
As it stands now, you have a pissed off players union because they aren't going to be paid for the extra work and the schedule has become a competitive clusterfuck. For a Billion dollar industry to cry poor is just a giant fuck you to us fans.
Money. They didn't want to have to pay players for an extended schedule. As it stands now they are only paying players game checks I believe. In the situation that I laid out, that many were saying was the obvious way to do it so it's not like I'm talking about some unforeseen solution, they would have had to agree to pay the players union more money. Can't believe the players union didn't foresee this shit coming and stood firm.

The NFL has TWO major schedule contingencies ready to go if things get out of hand. Just because you don't read about them on Twitter doesn't mean they overlooked prepping for this.

Well it’s hard for us on the sideline not to make comments when there’s no transparency into those. I’ve heard one was adding games onto end of season? Well what happens if you need to add 3 weeks on end and you have one team that finished in December and another playing all the way through January? That would completely fuck up the competitive playing field
