My prediction and fear

GeofromNJ : 10/16/2020 10:23 pm
The Jets will finish with the worst record in the NFL and will select Trevor Lawrence. The Giants will be sucking Jets exhaust for the next ten years as the Jets build a roster to complement Lawrence and the Giants continue to resemble the teams coached by Alex Webster, Bill Arnsparger, and John McVay. If anybody knows of a scenario that will prevent this nightmare, I'd love to hear it.
That was a bunch of peoples thoughts
smshmth8690 : 10/16/2020 10:29 pm : link
when they drafted Darnold too.
Whether or not the NYG gets Lawrence
The_Boss : 10/16/2020 10:31 pm : link
What they need to do is get competent in the scouting process and bring in a GM from another organization. Anything short of this will result in the continuance of this franchise being the league’s doormat.
I was told that
cjac : 10/16/2020 10:34 pm : link
The Giants taking Jones over Haskins would doom them for decades.

I also read that the Jets would be better than the Giants for decades when Rex Ryan was the head coach.

So whatever. I actually have some faith in Judge. I think he can turn it around.
My fear
Ike#88 : 10/16/2020 10:42 pm : link
is we have to play the Washington football team twice and the Jets don't.
I doubt it happens but
Drewcon40 : 10/16/2020 10:44 pm : link
Trevor Lawrence opting to stay in college would be entertaining.

Geo - I certainly get where you’re coming from - there’s still some time things to work out.
I am in Jones's corner, and I
jvm52106 : 10/16/2020 11:03 pm : link
think he is the QB for us for teh next ten years. You have to have stability and this is the start of that. Besides, no guarantees on draft choices NEXT YEAR 5 weeks into the season. So much can happen between now and then.
Here's a scenario that will prevent that nightmare:
81_Great_Dane : 10/16/2020 11:15 pm : link
The Jets are the Jets, will still be the Jets with Trevor Lawrence, just like they were the Jets with Sam Darnold, and with Mark "Sanchize," and everybody else. They're a fish that stinks from the head even worse than the Giants.
My bet Lawrence goes to Atlanta.....just makes too much sense
George from PA : 10/17/2020 5:03 am : link
Things happen that helps the marketing of the NFL.

I really do not care....about other teams.,..just need the Giants to improve.....

Jones must be the guy.

The OL must settle into a superior unit.

Defense must become a force.
To the OP...
EricJ : 10/17/2020 5:47 am : link
stop thinking stupid thoughts and you won't have that nightmare.
Who gives a shit about the Jets
KDavies : 10/17/2020 9:37 am : link
seriously. They have won one Super Bowl, 50 years ago. They are in a different conference. Who cares? I would rather Lawrence go there than the Skins.

I don’t want Giants getting Lawrence. I want this team winning a few games, the OL gelling, and Jones playing better as a result.

What you seem to be implying is that the NFL is either going to fix the games to ensure that ATL will lose enough to finish with the worst record or convince the Falcon's new GM, HC and enough key players that they have to try not to win the rest of the year for the long-term good of the team...even though it would be detrimental to their own careers.

For the NFL to try to fix games they would have to pay off not just one or two refs, but at least one ref for every game that Atlanta played.

It wouldn't be that easy because these refs are professional people with business reputations at stake. If they got caught taking an NFL bribe they'd be ruined professionally. Not to mention the fact that the more refs the NFL had to involve in this conspiracy, the higher the risk that one of them would eventually feel the need to come clean.

Perhaps you think that the interim HC (Morris) will purposely lose games and blow any chance he had at getting another HC gig or that he would instruct his players to play poorly and risk their own careers in order to get Lawrence? (Matt Ryan wouldn't exactly be down with that plan.)

And of course the NFL would not only risk their multi-billion dollar enterprise by fixing games, they would do so to ensure that Lawrence ended up playing in the 37th largest city in the US (Atlanta) rather than in NYC for the Giants or Jets.

If I misconstrued your post and you're NOT suggesting that the NFL is going to "fix" things to favor one team, please tell us what you meant.

That's the real issue with his argument. Fixing games aside, in what world is any team from ATL more marketable than either the Jets or the Giants? Having at least one good team in the most densely populated, largest metropolitan area in the country is several orders of magnitude more beneficial than having one in Atlanta.
Jones appears to have all the qualities
Simms11 : 10/17/2020 10:23 am : link
you would want in a successful QB. The offense is a work in progress with lack of quality WRs, an Oline that’s still learning to play together and with better fundamentals, a group of back up RBs starting and a new offensive scheme that’s going through growing pains. Given the circumstances, I think DJ has handled it the best he can. Lawrence would most likely look the same given these circumstances. You HAVE to give Jones at least the full season to pass any judgement. Phil Simms, this past week, commented that DJ was not bird-dogging receivers and that he has watched him this whole year. He thinks he’s going to turn out to be a good QB and so do other former QBs and Coaches. I’m still in the Jones camp and hope he turns out to be our QB the next 10 years or more. Saying that, I believe the Giants, regardless of draft position will draft the BPA, other then QB. Hoping moreso for the best defensive player in the draft.
Couple of things: Jets are NFL's worst team
SGMen : 10/17/2020 11:05 am : link
I think the Giants are 2nd worst RIGHT NOW, TODAY with ATLANTA right with us, especially if J. Jones can't come back strong. If J. Jones is strong they will win that one game too many. LOL

The only way the Jets don't finish with the #1 pick and QB T. Lawrence, is a MIRACLE. I mean that....

Now, we have stayed fairly healthy. I mean, losing Barkley was a huge blow to the offense and is why we are #2 worst instead of say 5th or 6th worst (not kidding), but if we were hit with injuries to the OL and say Bradberry we are dead meat.

I have been saying that with the #2 pick, I think someone will want QB Field and will trade with us. We have so many holes that we must be sure we have a solid GM & FO & Scouting staff to go along with solid Judge to make the right picks; the right purges of players who don't fit; and, the signing of the right UFA's.

Our rebuild starts in 2021 and Jones will be the centerpiece we don't need to worry about. He will establish himself as the OL continues to develop and gel, giving him that .25 - .5 seconds more to hit his passes to the open man. He is literally under FIRE every play so it is hard to figure things out and judge him.

We would also benefit greatly if we knoew by season's end that we had our starting 2021 oL in place:

Thomas-Hernandez-Gates-Lemiuex-Peart - with K. Smith improving as a blocker and short receiver.

Simply put, we lack top end offensive playmakers and we lack a pass rusher that scares anyone. No way we can play four solid quarters of football "week in, week out" and expect to win.

Washington 24-23 over Giants on last second FG.... sad but true.

Lawrence
Dragon : 10/17/2020 12:45 pm : link
Goes to the team with 2 or less wins but it looks like 3 wins and your out of the Lawrence sweepstakes so expect the Giants to win three for pride. Now I’m not sure they need Lawrence too many other needs but it’s a tough call right now.
The Jets are by far the worst team in NFL
Zeke's Alibi : 10/17/2020 12:49 pm : link
After that you have a bucket of Giants, Falcons, Broncos, Bengals, Bikings, Jags, and Chargers.

Probably an anomaly in the COVID year, but the bad teams are really bad this year and linemakers have adjusted spreads upwards more than any I remember ever.

Due to how bad our division is. Wouldn’t surprise me if we didn’t even finish with a top 5 pick.

Atlanta would beat us by 2 TDs.

Lawrence will because waste with either NY team until either can accumulate talent and put a decent team together.
