Jameson is from Northern Ireland, Tullamore is from the midlands region. I have family in Connemara and they always drink Tullamore Dew.
I'm more of a Scotch drinker, but I prefer Jameson for the Irish whiskeys. I has a better flavour.

Yes, there’s a huge different. Personally don’t think Blue is worth the price but it’s much better than black.

It's not better price wise for sure. See below:

Quote:
Johnnie Walker Red:This is a blend of about 35 different grain and malt whiskies. Dark peat whiskies from the West Coast and some light Whiskies from the Scottish East Coast are blended to come up with this blend. The Red Label is at the base of the Johnnie Walker colors lineup. It retails at $29.95 a bottle.

Johnnie Walker Black: Over 40 well-chosen whiskies, the most for any of the Johnnie Walker colors, from different parts of Scotland have been blended to produce the black label. Every whisky in the blend is usually aged for a minimum of 12 years before being blended, so the Black Label is a 12 year old Scotch Whisky. The blend has more character and depth compared to its predecessor. It retails at $50.95 a bottle.

Johnnie Walker Double Black: This new addition to the Johnnie Walker colors range of products is similar to Johnnie Walker Black except for the fact that some heavily peated malts and more charred-cask aged whisky has been introduced in the blend. This adds strength and color to the flavor. The Double Black goes for $69.90 (this may change with time).

Johnnie Walker Green: This is a blend of only the best malts from all the four regions of Scotland. The four malts have been carefully chosen, and many people may recognize them as the best premium single malts. They include Linkwood, Cragganmore, Talisker and Caol lla. The Green Label is a 15 year old Scotch whisky because all the whiskeys used in the blend have been aged for at least that long. It goes for $79.95 a piece, but it is one of the rarest of all the Johnnie walker colors (it’s not even available in some markets).

Johnnie Walker Gold: If the Johnnie Walker colors website is to be believed, the Gold Label has only been available in the market since the 1990’s. Fifteen different types of single malts are usually blended to make the Gold Label. While it has some sweet notes, the $109.45 Gold Label was created for smoothness.

Johnnie Walker Blue: The most exceptional and rarest whiskies in the world have been selected to make the Blue Label, which is also the most exceptional of all the Scotch Whiskies bearing the Johnnie Walker Colors. To make the Blue Label, the master distiller handpicks each and every whisky according to its quality and mixes them to create an exceptional blend with an early nineteenth century style. There are many exceptional whiskies bearing the Johnny Walker Colors, but this is without a doubt, the most complex and smoothest of all. The retail price of the Blue Label is $289.95.

Macallan 18 Yr Sherry Oak for my taste beats them all.

Jameson was founded and still operates in Dublin which is very much, not Northern Ireland. However, John Jameson was Scottish. (Don't tell anyone) and he got into the business of marrying into a whiskey-making family. Who were also, Scottish (Auch!).

As far as favorites... I"d go with, Jameson Black.

Slane has been on a marketing rampage since at least a year ago on the East Coast. As a former bartender, Ive never seen anything like it. My post shift drink is either a rye old fashioned, a glass of wine or a beer and a shot of Irish (usually Tully or Jameson). Several higher end bars I would frequent after work stopped selling Tully or Jamey altogether for Slane. Like took it off their shelves. That means they had to have offered one hell of a spiff (cash bonus to ownership for how many cases they went through weekly/monthly).

Its okay. Its not great. But it def tastes diff than Tully (less caramel/toffee notes) or Jamey (less bite, less crisp).

Irish whiskys are kinda lame to really have a scale because they are triple fermented so they have much less complexity of bourbons, ryes or scotches. The ones in the OP I dont consider very good at all.

My favorite tho is def Redbreast. The price point makes it stand up to the big boys like Middleton yet it doesnt cost 150 a bottle.

I 2a2as under the impression that Blue was a single malt by JW in which case ots a massive difference from Black.

Either way, I willl echo that for Blues price you can get more distinctive scotches at half the price. Blue os super clean and smooth. But thats usually not what I want in a scotch. I either want the floral notes and "heat" from a highlands whisky, or the peat and earthy swampiness of an islay like Laphroaig.

Fuck I worked in that industry for too long.

I love that scene. I also prefer the flavor of Bushmill to Jamey.
Teeling is my favorite..

My wife and I visited Ireland last year, and I have preferred whiskey to beer ever since. Teeling is pricey, but aside from that I enjoy Tullamore Dew and Dubliner.

In the interest of honesty, I'm a bourbon guy. However, I've tried Jameson, Middleton, Green Spot, Tullamore, Teeling, Proper 12 (surprisingly not terrible), Powers, and a few other big names. Red Breast is the only one I buy and drink at home. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

and profession.

The best spirit I have ever drank was a Cognac, the "Paradiso" by Hennessy.

I'm also much more into bourbon than any Scotch or Irish whiskey. Why not buy American?

I love the vanilla spicy and floral scent and sweetness of spirits matured in new oak casks (hence the notes above about the Paradiso and Bourbons in general.)

Having said all that, I'm quite fond of the Glenrothe's scotch single malt aged in new American oak casks. Lots of vanilla, spice, and floral notes, NO discernible peat or smoke flavor. Delicate for a Scotch.

The Jamesons distillery is just outside Cork, so no it is from the South. Bushmills is from the North. That distillery now is used by almost all the brands - believe it is called Irish Distillers. I was there.

Green Spot and Red Breast 12
weeg in the bronx : 10/18/2020 5:50 pm : link
Both are great at 60 bucks or so. For the 'budget' I like Tully. Agree the RB 21 is really good, if you 300 to drop. I've never had the 15. Yellow and Red Spot are also good variations on green spot. All Pot Stills. Yellow and Red are both plus 100, I like the Green better but that's me. I bought a bottle of RB cask strength today along with Powers John Lane. Never had either but they are highly recommended. Bit pricey especially for the cask strength but I'm enjoying more Irish of late. Slainte

Ha, ha! Used to have such friends years ago, but they were all anti-Prod, if you know what I mean. So it never came up. (They had to school me, as they did, to not ask for a Black & Tan. After a great silence broke out all over the bar when I did just that. Not something I ever did again after the stories.)

Lol, yea, might have as well asked for an Irish car bomb. Interesting to note is that Redbreast is made in cork which was a big area for the Black and Tans. The gals and lads I know from cork are very proud of their area and families role in Irish independence.

One lady from the US traveling with us would call the car service after work and ask for a ride. One nice driver explained to her, much to her horror, that asking for a ride means asking to hook up.
