He was the 3rd pick in the 2019 NFL draft. I recall the Giants being high on him in 2019 with some here hoping he would fall to the 6th pick.
Gettleman made the very polarizing trade for Leonard Williams with a 2-6 record last year. Williams was the 6th pick in 2015.
Hypothetically speaking, would you advocate making the same exact trade for Quinnen Williams as they made last year? 3rd & 4th/5th round pick for Williams?
I’m not saying yes and it would have big cap implications. I’m just curious given he was just the third pick in the draft a year and a half ago.
It’s just amazing how much more valuable draft pucks are before any player is selected.
The Jets would have hung up the phone and laughed if we offered a 3rd & 5th round pick for the 3rd pick in the 2019 draft. Now, 18 months later you are asking me if I’m high for suggesting giving up those picks for the player who was drafted at #3 in 2019.
Williams has been the quintessential disappointment on the D line for the Jets. Akin to Wilkerson, Gholston, Dewayne Robertson, Sheldon Richardson, Quentin Coples.... The Jets pick DL like we pick OL.
Downside is we really need to focus on other parts of the team with our middle-round picks in the upcoming draft. He probably isn't a good enough pure pass rusher to fill that void so it would still need to be addressed in the offseason, likely with higher round picks magnifying the total impact of that position group on our draft.
In balance probably not a good idea.
If the Jets want to trade him, there's something up, because he's probably worth more on their roster than what he'd bring back in trade — just on potential. So if he's trade bait, either they think his potential is low or there's some other problem with him: Off the field stuff, work ethic, something.

The correct answer is you look into everything, Everything is on the table. Which I’m sure we all get tired of hearing. This coming draft looks pretty bare in terms of defensive lineman, which can definitely impact our negotiations with Tomlinson and Williams. Why not acquire extra leverage with 4 years of cost control?...
I’m not saying I would, I haven’t watched the film on him, but to shoot it down is premature, he was right there with Josh Allen just a year ago
I'd honestly rather resign Leonard Williams and Tomlinson.
Having said that, I wouldn't make the trade because we only have 5 draft picks heading into 2021 and we don't need more help on the DL. We need an ER, an ILB and a #2 CB.
^This.

At least you can come up with some reason for trading for Quinnen Williams. Age, untapped potential, signed beyond this year. The Leonard Williams trade lacked all of that.
We shouldn't be buyers, we should be sellers at the trade deadline...
We shouldn't be buyers, we should be sellers at the trade deadline...
5. No 7th rounder (Yiadom) and no 5th rounder (Leonard Williams)
And we're not going to get any comp picks

Thanks. Forgot and Yiadom. That just underscores the point more...bad idea.
