NFC EAST RACE
DAL 2-3 (DIV 1-0; beat NYG) Playing ARI Monday night.
PHI 1-4-1 (DIV 0-1)
NYG 1-5 (DIV 1-1)
WAS 1-5 (DIV 1-1; lost to NYG)
The NFC East is 2-14-1 outside the division.
PROJECTED DRAFT ORDER
The tiebreak for draft order for non-playoff teams is Strength of Schedule (SOS). The familiar tiebreakers (head-to-head, conference record, etc.) only come into play if the SOS is the same for the 2 teams. Therefore a 4th place team can pick behind a 3rd place team (or even a 2nd place team).
At this point in the season, I just list by a projected SOS - the combined records of the 16 opponents. Later in the year I figure out which future games will add 1-1 to the SOS (i.e teams on our schedule playing each other) to get a more refined estimate.
(Note that the tiebreak info below is based on the assumption that all teams will play their complete schedule).
1. NYJ 0-6 (-5)
2. WAS 1-5 (3.5; see below)
3. NYG 1-5
4. ATL 1-5 (-3)
5. JAC 1-5 (-3.5)
6. MIN 1-5 (-4)
7. HOU 1-5 (-6) (pick traded to MIA)
8. LAC 1-4 (6)
9. PHI 1-4-1
10. CIN 1-4-1
The numbers in parentheses give the number of games back in projected SOS, e.g. NYG is 3 games weaker in projected SOS than ATL and NYG is 6 games stronger than LAC in projected SOS. Big negative numbers are good for NYG, big positive numbers are bad for NYG.
For SOS tiebreak vs other NFC East teams, one only needs to look at the combined wins of the 2 non-common opponents. For WAS (assuming both teams don’t make the playoffs) compare
WAS: DET + CAR = 5-6 combined record
NYG: CHI + TB = 9-3 combined record
Now we just need Trevor Lawrence to stay for his senior year and Jet fans will meltdown even more.
If we win the NFC East, we’ll be picking 20+ regardless of our regular season record.
It still pisses me off we didn’t win that damn game. But whatever— we get another shot at Dallas and if beat them in the 2nd game they’ve got nothing on us in the division title race. We’ve both lost big time players but I still like our chances with Freeman filling in for Barkley compared to theirs with Dalton filling in for Dak.

NFC East, and drafting #10. Appeals to my sense of the absurd.

I’d honestly trade picking 10-15 picks further back for a division title any day. We’ve had 1 playoff game since 2011– give me some meaningful wins late in the season, bragging rights over our hated rivals, and a damn playoff game. Picking #10 instead of #20 doesn’t assure you of anything anyway, the draft is so often just a crapshoot (if we were talking about the difference between #20 and #1 there could be a discussion but picking just several picks later is worth it to taste a division title again IMO).
If we have WR Shepard back and healthy it helps our offense immensely. We also have to hope that Peart is truly an upgrade over Thomas. I don't mind both OT's getting snaps and being active. May the best man win.
Our defense must, absolutely must, get stronger at the end of 2nd quarters and 4th quarters. The Eagles are NOT all that though their defense will give us a lot of trouble should we have any mental breakdowns on the OL.
I now believe we have a shot to win on Thursday AND the Cowboys are going to lose to AZ tonight. If we get to 2-5 we are in the thick of a division race. We also have a few days to look at film and possibly "coach up" and make adjustment as needed based on player abilties and so forth.
I really liked what I saw from D. Jones and offensive play-calling yesterday. The interception aside (gotta throw that ball harder out of bounds DJ!) he was fairly effective given his limited array of weapons.
Engram, Shepard, Slayton and Tate if they now "get it" as far as what this offense requires will grow & help DJ more but the key is for the oL to have less mental breakdowns. We don't have the top end talent on the OL right now to keep the Eagles completely at bay but if we limit mental breakdowns and big technique mistakes we have a shot.
but it is week 6 and our division stinks. we are potentially 1 win away from being in 1st place.
we have had so much losing and so many high draft picks the past few years. Personally I would like to enjoy some winning on Sunday's rather than rooting for higher draft slots.
and most of us don't trust this brain trust to make good on the draft pick anyway.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Lawrence pulls an Eli and announces he won’t play for the Jets if they draft him. I’m not a fan of these hostage ploys, but I can definitely see it as an option.
