Tough to put a positive spin on a 1-5 start, but over the last 3 games, we’ve seen some legitimate signs that there may in fact be light at the end of the tunnel.
It appears we have the beginnings of a defense. Bradberry is a stud at corner. Dexter Lawrence and Leonard Williams are becoming fairly disruptive against the run. Martinez is a tackling machine at linebacker. I’ve noticed far fewer wide open receivers than in past years. We do seem more disciplined. Graham deserves credit. We’ve seemed well prepared, with the exception of the 49ers game. Coming into the game against Washington, we actually had the #8 ranked defense in the NFL. I would assume we will maintain or improve on that ranking after the Washington game.
The running game is improving. I usually don’t have much faith in mid season free agent signings, particularly at the skill positions. But it seems we may have lucked out with Freeman. He’s clearly got some life left in his legs. He’s decisive, reads the defense well, and can run between the tackles. Daniel Jones running ability is also refreshing after many years of Eli.
It’s nice to see draft picks like Peart and Crowder making contributions. We are a super young team. These reps that our young guys are getting are so valuable. The same goes for Daniel Jones. The kid needs reps. There’s no reason to believe he won’t improve. It’s really regrettable that we couldn’t pull out the Bears game and the Cowboys game. If we had, people would be talking about a 1st place Giants team right now and i’m quite sure there wouldn’t be any “Tank for Trevor” posts on BBI.
the regression is on the offensive side across the board. We can blame that on Jones if we want but other than 1 out of bounds int today, he had a clean game and was the entire offense. We can blame talent too bcause lord knows they need more, but Engram and Slayton in particular are talented players. One is being used correctly the other is not. Not to say he can't be because it's still early, but Garrett has not yet done a good job. It hasn't been too bad but I wish he'd have a little less pride of authorship and just incorporate some of what Jones/Engram in particular did well together last year (when Engram averaged 2x as many yards per game and Jones' numbers were better across the board).
If we had a few young players flash and we lost? That would show more progress for me. I just don't see the talent here.
I'm all in on Jones but I was really hoping to see more today.
Think about that.
Most people admit there’s major problems with the roster. But a win is a win.

KWALL - I could not agree more. Daniel Jones did not have a good game.
And players did flash today. Crowder played a very nice game. Leonard Williams had a very good game. Will Hernandez and and Nick Gates played very well. Peart showed that he can be an answer for us at tackle.
And...we won.
Think about that.

Like Allen just handed the ball to us and said, "Please Sir, may I have another?"
Yep.
Where and what are these lengths?
What are you talking about?
I didn't think it was an impressive play to cause the fumble? That is shitting on people? Only a fool would take it that way.
I believe there is a difference. Don't you?
That’s what I mean by the lengths you are going.
"If we had a few young players flash and we lost? That would show more progress for me."
You take that as shitting on a big group of people enjoying a win? Really?
And that....is just weird to me. That’s all
I'm interested in hearing about what guys you saw today that flashed.
Gates, Peart, Crowder and Lawrence were very good.
Vets like Martinez, Bradberry and Gano were excellent
You can still see progress in players getting better and have a W for it.
He played 1/4 of a game before today. And then he he has the weak OL, no running game, and a guy like Inman as his #2? Not much there.
The NYG had a 1 point win today vs this guy and a team widely considered to be in the bottom 3 of the league.
Nothing impressive today. Our QB didn't play well. If he did, damn...that would mean a lot. But he didn't. We didn't do much but barely beat the #31 team in the NFL.
Allen is not the backup QB. He is not. Haskins was the starter and was benched, not even getting a jersey. That means Allen is the starter and Alex Smith is the backup.
When the starting QB is injured and replaced by the #2 that is a backup. When #2 supplants the #1 and thus becomes the #1, he is not the backup. Last year when Jones past Eli on the depth chart, Eli became the backup and Jones became the starter.
Also agree on Williams and Ryan.
He was signed to be the backup and has 1/4 of starting experience this year with his current team.
They changed out Thomas multiple times when he made mistakes.
They sat Balentine down when he made mistakes and has not seen the field.
They are calling runs for Jones.
This coaching staff is working hard to find ways to win.
This is progress as I see it.
The culture is changing and they are finding guys that want to fight and do what it takes to win.
This team will win some games this year.
The talent is not there right now but they are doing everything they can to win football games and be competitive
Zero people have called this win impressive. It was simply a win the team/organization desperately needed. It was an ugly win, but a win nonetheless.

You guys are so full of shit. You’re asking the Giants to win games and then still bitching when we win games.
This is absolutely, 100% who we are and why we are the worst fans in any sport.
This is holding serve, not progress. Beat the Eagles and then we will have some progress

honest question, why even watch the games? If the team is so terrible that a win doesn’t even get you crack a smile then what’s the point? Wait until we are a good team again to find any joy watching football?

I said it many times already today...a win is a win. I'm happy they won, but this is not a fun team to watch, even in victory. I watch every week rooting for a win. This week they didn't disappoint, but they sure seemed to be trying (joke). I guess my point is things have gotten so bad, that we are all supposed to be ecstatic at a win like this simply because it wasn't yet another loss.
We were in agreement up until your last line. I have no idea why the critics need to say that or have that opinion. Who’s jumping for joy today?
It’s a thread recognizing that some areas of this team made some progress. What is so damn wrong about that?
This team needs to win close games. But, as stated above the TNF game this week will tell a bigger story.
When you look across the league, this defense specifically is playing above their talent level. If that isn’t “progress” then what is it?
Let's just hope this is one of those wins that gets this young team going. Quick turnaround on Thursday against another team that is struggling.
This is holding serve, not progress. Beat the Eagles and then we will have some progress
Holding serve. I like that wording.
Well done.
It feels wrong to grown about wins since we have seen so few, but I also understand the POV that a single W doesn't necessarily indicate progress.
Certainly, which is why I doubt fans when they say "win against philly then we are showing progress". There is context within both wins and losses as you stated above, so just a W against Philly isn't what certain fans are looking for, rather they are looking for convincing wins which may be a little too much to ask for at this juncture.
Certainly agree that there is a lot of room for improvement and all problems are not solved.
A win over the Eagles would be a great next step towards remaining a relevant team in the 2020 season.
This team can compete if they start getting more from Jones and the offense. Perhaps they will improve as they become more comfortable with the system and the offensive line can improve and be more consistent.
We will see.
