Has Ereck Flowers improved?

Sean : 10/19/2020 8:16 am
I haven’t watched him, but I’m listening to Boomer & Gio right now and they are discussing the Flowers improvements. He’s starting on an improved Dolphins OL.

Maybe he just needed a change of scenery, but it’s frustrating.
Seems like he has gotten worse
Giantology : 10/19/2020 8:18 am : link
Especially since he changed his last name to Thomas and switched to jersey # 78
I don’t hear any complaints from Miami. Dolphins have had a miserable
Ivan15 : 10/19/2020 8:30 am : link
O-line almost as long as the Giants, after losing both of their good tackles in the Suck for Tua sweepstakes.

If Flowers is not part of the solution, at least he is not part of the problem.

The traditional approach to handling a bust LT is to try him at RT. Then if that doesn’t work, you try him at OG. The Giants tried Flowers at RT, but he refused to even think about OG because he was still looking for his second contract payday. After looking at his career ending, he decided to move over to OG. He probably would still be in Washington if the HC had stayed.

Lucky for him, Miami welcomed him home.

This sounds about right. Pissed he wouldn't move to guard for us, but A.) who knows if our OL coach(es) would have improved him, 2.) sorta kinda can't blame him for looking out for his career/contract.

Anyway, a wasted #1 pick. Things STILL need to change.

Wasted #1 picks seem to be our resume'. How is it possible to never hit on a first round pick. Don't the GM speak to these people before they draft them to find out what type of person they are?
Flowers, Pugh, Richburg
Jesse B : 10/19/2020 9:23 am : link
have all started a number of games for different teams across the league, making them by definition starting offensive linemen.

There were enough OL here that the Giants should not have gone three years not being able to score any points
At this point, Richburg failing here was a matter of coaching.
Ten Ton Hammer : 10/19/2020 9:42 am : link
. Its obvious he has NFL talent.
Flowers always had talent and toughness - remember Coughlin loved him
Eric on Li : 10/19/2020 10:03 am : link
and obviously another old school and highly competent liked him enough to reclaim his career (Callahan).

Like a lot of players he was thrown into crappy circumstances here, underperformed his talent, and became a whipping boy for a fanbase that couldn't run him out of town fast enough.

It's also what half the board wants to do to Jones now and has wanted to do with Leonard Williams since the day he arrived.
Richburg ends most years on IR - coaching can't fix that
Eric on Li : 10/19/2020 10:06 am : link
though he did have talent. All 3 of Reese's early OL picks had talent, it was just like the Wizard of Oz. If Pugh had Flower's toughness, and if Flowers had Pughs feet, and if Richburg had Flowers strength/durability, they all could have been something.
Giants let Richburg walk because he's always injured...
sb from NYT Forum : 10/19/2020 10:15 am : link
...he doesn't play well when hurt and he misses games. He's followed the same path in SF.

He was injured and bad for SF in 2018.

He played better in 2019 until he went on IR in Week 13.

He hasn't played since.

$30+ million so far for 13 games of good play.
If Flowers had been willing to play guard here in New York ...
FStubbs : 10/19/2020 10:28 am : link
... he'd probably still be here. He had an attitude adjustment elsewhere. It sucks but that's how it goes sometime.

Thomas is looking pretty bad right now.
Whipping boy
JerseyCityJoe : 10/19/2020 12:10 pm : link
If he didn't get whipped every time we trotted him out on Sunday he would still be here.

Why would he still be here? He sucked at Lg for the WFT. You think if he moved inside and still sucked here we would have retained him?
I always wondered about the Ereck Flowers at Guard thing.
LBH15 : 10/19/2020 12:22 pm : link
Is that actually true that he wasn't given a chance to play Guard on the line (after or during failure at LT & RT) because he said I am not playing the Guard position?

Or did the coaching staff just not see that he could be a fit there?

Not a debate on whether you think he plays Guard very well, just want to know the facts of what went down.
He has looked good so far
compton : 10/19/2020 1:26 pm : link
I live in South East Florida so I've seen Flowers a bit and so far he looks good in the LG position. Maybe him going back to Miami has something to do with his improved play.

He didn't suck. He wasn't good, but he was functional. Same as he is right now in Miami.
