The Trade: Houston Rockets acquire RJ Barrett, Frank Ntilikina, the No. 8 pick in the 2020 draft and the No. 27 pick in the 2020 draft for Russell Westbrook. Link - ( New Window )
have said this before but I truly believe this deal would push me into no longer being a Knicks fan. It would set them back yet again with zero path to being good anytime soon.
not even huge on Barrett and yet, he easily is a top 2-3 pick in THIS draft. Then toss in Frank (again not a huge fan but has some role player upside), a mid-lotto pick (8th) AND an additional pick for a 32 year old Westbrook? Wow.
Randle and DSJ have to be included in the deal. No RJ or Mitch. And it can't be a high first round pick, later in the round is fine. Include Frenchy if needed, I'm not high on him like some of you are.
Geez that would be awful. If we are trading RJ it better be in a deal for a younger star who can make players around them better. I dont hate Russ and i wont go crazy if we trade for him, assuming the trade was Randle, filler, and a later first or something like that. To be clear, i dont want to trade for Russ i just wont jump off the roof some people will if we did.

Bleacherreport (generally) is no longer considered a joke and employs some very decent writers. It's also being discussed (and mocked) all over twitter.
this trade, it means that the Knicks don't think they can sign Vanvleet in FA. Not sure why you would want to take on Russ and his salary at this point in his career
and Okoro apparently helium for both. What do we make of that Vassell shooting video? Just working on things? Knicks have met with Quickley twice now. Gotta believe he's a potential target at 38. Pure shot but that's about it.
All of his proposals were pretty stupid but the Knicks was just a complete joke. If Leon Rose were to do that trade he would deserve to be fired on the spot.
Unless its for an equally bad contract, I really don't see how Westbrook gets dealt.
On another note- it seems like Chris Paul to the Lakers is gaining some steam. Makes a lot of sense for both of them.

Very good on ball defender. At 38, its a solid alternative.

curious how much salary LA would have to send out to make that deal work.

Lakers do not have the salary to pull it off
You have to hope this is a bad reporter started rumor
If Rose and Dolan truly want the Knicks to be relevant, they need to stop trying to make them relevant. That is how they got into a nearly 2 decade long mess in the first place.
Keep playing young guys, make smart draft picks, and pick up veterans to fit specific roles. At least they have a coach who should be hard on them, teach them, and above all else, stress and coach D. That alone, should make a little difference.
Let's be honest, at this stage, a 35 win season is way more relevant than they've been. They need building blocks this year. Next year shoot for .500 and a potential playoff spot, but not by forcing it with bad moves.
Don't give me that Bleacher Report shyte. You know better than this. Throwing out a nutty trade proposal a month before the draft would generate a ton of buzz. Poppycock sir.

I'm honestly confused. What's this supposed "downside" of discussing clickbait? Nobody is claiming this is a real rumor. It's a really bad trade proposal by a writer. Westbrook to the Knicks is being heavily discussed and in some moronic cases advocated for (Alan Hahn? WTF happened to his brain?)
The headline said "Trades That Actually Make Sense" Where???And How can this guy be their featured NBA writer??? This may be THE stupidest (and there have been many) trade proposal for the Knicks I have seen!
I just don’t think you can take a guard who doesn’t play above the rim consistently and hope that he blossoms in the league. That’s just so rare. It’s also a lot tough to extrapolate a guard’s game to the pros. How do you know Kira Lewis or Maxey will be better than Sexton? Sexton was dynamic in college and seemed to have the alpha personality but hasn’t exactly done much as a pro.
Perhaps Okoro can make a Jimmy Butler-type of transformation, but Vassell has shown more glimpses.

I have been thinking about the Okoro/Butler comp as well.
I wish we had reliable measurements (Ht, Wt, wingspan) for these guys.
No way even the writer believes the Knicks would do this trade. Westbrook is on the downside of his career and for a guy who can’t shoot and can’t attack the basket as well as he has aged, the Rockets would be lucky to only give up a draft asset for someone to take Westbrook off the Rockets hands.

Caldwell-Pope, Green, Kuzma, Caruso, Cook and 1st round. See article linked. Hoopshype - ( New Window )

? Sexton had a vert encouraging 2nd season. He put up 21, 3 and 3 on 47% from the field, 38% from 3, 16.3 PER. He was 20 and 21 his first 2 seasons. If anyone is going to be disappointed with the Knicks getting a player of that caliber at 8 then be prepared to be very disappointed. I'll take Lewis or Maxey putting up a season 2 like Sexton did. I'm not a massive Sexton guy but credit where credit is due. I actually get the feeling Lewis is going to be the pick.
and have people wondering in a few years how he fell out of the top five. Blazing speed, passes the ball well with both hands, can shoot and is active on defense. I'd be fine with it. Apparently Phoenix has interviewed him a couple of times already. If he lands there at 10 I may become a Suns fan - that team would be fun to watch.

Completely speculation but my gut says the Knicks look into trading up for Ball, have Ball and Hayes off the board by the time they pick and end up taking Lewis.

Thats based pope opting in, hasnt it been reported he isnopting out?
hope the Knicks take a look at Giles. He's the kind of FA we should be rolling the dice on. He's still only 23 in April.
What's his situation w his knees?
Fell out of their rotation but was healthy outside of a minor hip issue. Averaged 7 and 4 on 55% from the field, 16.4 PER, .112 WS/48. It's not as if we have many talented bigs. I'd bring him in, 1 year 2nd year team option or even 2 years.
trade for buddy hield, draft someone who can shoot at 8...at least we have a team thats fun to watch again.
Isn't the trade for Hield the shooter? No need to trade for him and draft a shooter. If you trade for him, draft a stretch PF
Hield is a poor defender, you can't go stretch 4 at 8 (Toppin the only one that is projected to go that high) and have anything better than a bad defensive team.
"This insistence that Buddy Hield suddenly transform into an elite, or even average defender is the stuff of Zach Randolph’s pipe dreams, and the results of this strategy have been horrific. Hield is getting roasted by top-tier bucket-getters on a nightly basis, to the point of posting the worst overall defensive field goal percentage (the percentage an opponent’s average field goal percentage increases or decreases when guarded by a player) in the entire NBA. Buddy’s certainly never garnered the reputation of a high-class defender, but he’s never bottomed-out at this level either. "

I have wanted Lewis from the start. I was on Jonathan Macri's podcast awhile ago and mentioned Lewis and teams sleeping on him. He is very good. He has some Damian Lilliard in him. He should be the pick, if he is there. The buzz is building on him.

I believe he can be dealt in a sign and trade. But they can also do it without him. It actually wouldn't be a bad return for OKC.

I think players can only be moved via sign-and-trade by themselves. You can't add other players to the salary going out in a deal.
