Just saw on Twitter....he was the highest graded Olineman yesterday with 25 snaps....good news for him.
He seems like he's beefed up since the draft. Arms look bigger...he looks a little thicker. Anyone notice this? I'd bet his weight is in the 320-330 lb range.
Did you watch the game yesterday? Thomas actually played well. He missed a grand total of 1 block. No sacks, no pressures and other than the one missed run block was moving his guy off the LOS.
Peart showed good feet and AA, and he looked prepared and confident. He was sliding laterally exactly as you would hope Thomas could, given his pedigree.
I keep asking how much happier we'd be if we got a true stud at #4 (Wills/Wirfs?). It's great we found a gem in the third round, but how much better could we be if we did better at #4? Shouldn't it be easier to get the cream of the crop there, having first dibs?
He is making mistakes, for sure, but my understanding is that he is a talented young man with the desire to be an NFL talent. I know of few OT's who flourish as rookies even with a full camp and team #1 reps!!
But lets say Peart is a better LT than Thomas. So what? That is GREAT news!!
If 2021 goes like this: Peart-Hernandez-Gates-Lemiuex-Thomas (good run blocker) and all five guys are solid we are in GREAT shape for a solid 2021 run even though it is in my mind year ONE of the rebuild.
DG is gone after this year. No way he sticks after these drafts and UFA miscues. And if the Giants feel Thomas will NEVER be a LT in the NFL that would seal his fate for sure, IMHO.
I see Abrhams being internally promoted to GM; Judge and staff retained; D. Jones proving he is a true #1 QB; and, please God that our young defense develops (Williams, Tomlinson, Lawrence, Martinez, Holmes, McKinney, Bradberry all solid by season's end) into a decent group that needs an ER and CB.
I'm praying for 2-5 right now and for Peart to be the answer and for Thomas to grow along with Lemiuex. It would be nice to see Zeitler return to pre-Giants form as he is only 30 but so far...not looking good. My guess is he had some kind of injury that has left him limited.
Way too early for that.
By end of the year Elliott was the LT and Moore ended up a Tackle / Guard.
I think Peart has the more natural LT feel and Thomas could be a dominant RT over time..
I think we have the pieces in place for our Oline - need Gates to develop more or get a Center and a replacement for Zietler- which could be SL.
Great!

Peart's feet and athleticism jump off the screen. Hard to find those dancing elephants and he clearly has it. Refreshing to see. A year in the weight room and he could finally be one of those guys that gets crowned every year that's a mid round pick actually coming to fruition.
It was a stark contrast to Thomas, who is pack-pedaling off the snap and keeping his hands down way too long. AT is still learning the punch whereas Peart is already doing it.
Who cares about draft position. It looks like the Giants may've found 2 starting OTs in the draft when they desperately needed too. So far so good for Peart, but now comes the hard part - sustained success.
I honestly was a little surprised by the Thomas pick, but not upset. The arguments were very convincing that they got a really good OT who should be their LT for a decade. Every assessment of him was that his ceiling may not be as high as the other 3 top OTs, but he was the most ready and had the highest floor. It hasn't exactly panned out yet, but it is way too early and silly for anyone to call him a bust or give up. He and Peart still may forma nice OT tandem. I really would have liked to have seen a full game of Thomas against the Washington front, which is far less impressive than the first 5 defensive front 7s he faced.
It might have been a better day than Solder has ever had in NY. Small sample, I get it, but I want that kid on the field again soon. LT or RT, don't care. The feet were impressive compared to Thomas. Flemming isn't the answer.
Thomas was supposed to be the most NFL ready of the tackles though.
Peart showed encouraging signs though.
The Skins stink, but it's not because of their defensive front. There was no exhale for the OLine Sunday.

But what the hell has happened to Thomas?

If that is the least impressive front that he has faced (4 #1's including Mr Everything Chase Young, who many here wanted to tank the season for last year)...then I would say he has faced some pretty impressive D lines. And with Philly and TB coming up, sure not getting any easier.
Williams is a DT in reality. Young is an OLB/ER and is supposed to get sacks. Williams is supposed to stop the run and put pressure on the QB. Two different positions.
Not a knock on the rookie, but he has a pretty good supporting cast.
I don’t care if it ends up that Peart is the LT and Thomas is the RT
It's all about pedigree and who shows it on the football field. Despite some rough waters for AT, my money is on him.
First DT is not a DE, so judging by sacks is comparing apples to chocolate bars. Second, not everything has to do with sacks (unless you judge players based on their fantasy football scoring)
