than a Sheryl Crow and Sting song?

I haven't heard this yet, but I just wanted my initial skepticism to be on record before I took a listen.

Not a fan, but so what, one of the best things about music is who cares what other people like. Music is still one of the freest forms of art where there is something for everyone and your opinion is the only one that matters. to you.

What pj said...it's all subjective. Frankly, I've never been a fan of Sting, and a cursory fan of Crow (at best). Just not my cup of tea.
Thanks guys!

I have been listening to
pjcas18 : 10/21/2020 11:16 am : link
a lot of Darius Rucker lately. My whole life I felt like I like all kinds of music. Except country.

Lately I've been trying to give country a shot. I always felt the like the songs were derivative, repetitive, unimaginative, and boring. But partly it was my ignorance, but also partly it's kind of true, but I think it's just simple, in a good way.

Darius Rucker is one of my favorites so far, and I wasn't a big Hootie and the Blowfish fan, but i do like Rucker.

He has a song about his young daughter and growing up that I like called It Won't Be Like this For Long. Linked below. As a father of daughters I live(d) this so I can relate.

My friends bust my balls because when we're together and i get control of the speaker I put on country music and they're all metal, rock, punk, anything but country fans (like I was/am). lol.

and I don't care.

it's nicely done but 'doesn't get any better' is a bit strong -

I am a Sting fan as it happens, and also play upright bass. Gotta say it pains me a little to see him faking it on the upright bass so blatantly in that video. In my 'doesn't get any better' category is the full Sting video of the Summoner's Tale album being recorded at his house in the English countryside - man, all those guys can play (including Sting for sure - he's just not playing in this vid).

Check out the following artists. They're not traditional 'country', as they've melded country in the underground vein that the alt.rock movement did in the mid-80s to early 90s. The difference, is this style actually still exists and hasn't been perverted, yet.

The Jayhawks

Ryan Adams/Whiskeytown

Okkervil River

Hiss Golden Messenger

Drive By Truckers

Jesse Sykes

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit

Deer Tick

Ryan Hamilton & The Harlequin Ghosts

The genre is wide and deep, and growing. I don't like country much, either. This is country worth listening to, in my humble opinion.

Thanks will do, I like the DBT, listening to them for years and like Jason Isbell too. I like the Old 97's too sort of in this same mold.

Here's a couple of country tunes I like...

Crow song I could ever tolerate was I Shall Believe - and it's only because I was seeing a girl when it came out who was in love with the song, so it has some minor sentimental value.

Also, she was a lot better looking when this song came out.

You really seem to be down a Sheryl Crow rabbit hole, you should try hard and get yourself out of it. lol.
